Nice clear video and narration, enjoyed watching. Seems like a common theme though with solo gamers, handicaping one of the sides. The scenario's were designed with a set number of cards for each. Not only are the Axis getting less choices each turn, but if you pickup a valuable card that could be used later, you would have to discard it after the turn. Since we are both playing the best available card anyway, I prefer to have the full choice for each side, that only makes sense for the most competitive game. I set the board and cards up as a two player match and change chairs between turns. The change of perspective makes it easier to think like an opponent, and I don't make another common mistake of not reversing left and right for each side. To each his own, but I prefer a more competitive match using the scenario's as designed.

I really like your style of describing rules and your plays. Keep it up.

I've been considering getting this for a long time and now your solo rules have just pushed me over the edge. Thanks. :)

First off I like your new dice track though I would probably need to put a small box at the far end because I am sure I would be shooting the dice off the tray...I have always wanted to pick up this game for some light wargaming but always thought solo would not work. Thanks to you I see that it can. Great stuff as always.

I also shot the dice off the other tray all the time...
The game is fantastic and not that expensive, so I really can recommand to give it a try!

That was a surprise game for you. I would´t have guessed you even had this in your collection :)

      Agreed :-)
I discovered it just a few months ago: I played it with a friend and it immediately blew me away.

I believe you forgot to attack on right flank when you used General advance order. At 33:00 you implied you will attack with activated unit, but most likely huge success on the left flank diverted you from your plans when you ended your turn at 34:40 :) Anyway, nice solo run on MM44.

I know my playthroughs are less regular the last months. Part of the reason is that I´m working on a web page and blog to share my daily gaming life. Hope to bring it online at the start of next year :-)

Thanks for this. 28:00 You could have taken ground with that second infantry unit.

Thanks Johannes! I got this in a trade years ago with a pile of expansions. Never considered this for solo. Makes it an even better trade now!

In all Richard Borg games using this system I like to reduce the Infantry to a 1 hex range. It seems to help change the 'scale' of the game to a more reasonable scale. Just my way to play the game. I like your solo idea! Will try it out.

      Interesting idea!

Grrr, hex and counter wargames is were I started and it's not the flashy bits but the strategy and tactics which make the game for me.
Having said that I do enjoy games like memoir 44, tide of iron, descent, rune bound etc
If you enjoy a game play it have fun that's what it's all about.
Now that I've ranted about traditional hex and counter board games vs flashy graphic games let's get back to the video! ; )
Not trying to start an argument or flame or just my opinion actually I like both types of games each one has its strengths and weaknesses.
    Carry on good sir!

Yes...I pretty much agree with you.
Still, the access into this one is probably easier for non wargamers than into most other wargames. Not so much because of the nice components, but because of the simple rules and the short duration....
      Thanks for watching :-)

I actually reduce Infantry to 2 hexes (my mistake).

Yes that sounds interesting to try. I also restrict infantry to attacking tanks at 2 hexes or less with one die. I may change that to 1 hex and try your 2 hex infantry rule. So you roll 2 die @2 hexes and 3 die @1?

A pretty light game?? Well depending on context...
Do not ever buy expansions for this. Maybe the terrain pack.

43:00 card Recon is pronounced ree-con. You said Reckon which means something else.
Your first part is first impressions on game rules and so I skipped the first half because I was interested in your solo version.
To choose best of 3 then try to figure out what the AI would do is pretty distracting and ad hoc.

    • @callasmar
      @callasmar  2 ปีที่แล้ว

I guess compared to most other wargames, it seems fairly light

@@callasmar that's true, but many people neglect to put that qualifier in. I find M44 hard and complicated. I never liked the setup of actual wargames so I got rid of them.
