Thank you so much!!! This just saved me a bunch of $$$. Bought it years ago, but it's hardly used. Bought non-original cyan and magenta cartridges, but the printer told me the yellow cartridge was not inserted. Thinking it was a compatibility issue, and considering the money even non-originals cost, I was about to bin it and buy a new ink printer instead. Tried everything (factory reset, drum reset, etc) to no avail. Thankfully, moving the cartridges around just before I was ready to give up made me realise it stores the toner levels somewhere. Which led me here.
On my 8600cdw i had replaced all color toners and was getting indication that cyan was empty. $145 minimum to look at it from a brother service center as i am in rural eastern oregon. Found my way to the reset screen as you indicated the location and reset each toner colors and it returned to functioning perfectly. Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge. Reason youtube is the best for learning skills

This is by far my biggest complaint about this printer. This should have been an option under settings but some greedy exec wanted you to think you have to buy more toner!
@@Theinkrefillexperts, FYI I figured it out from other videos. It turns out that the Brother folks hide the reset functions for Drum and Belt much the same way. I had to hit and hold the # or the * key after going to the "Machine info" and then "Parts life" sub-menu. After holding the key down for a couple of seconds it prompted me to reset these parameters, however, I also found out that the Drum! error that I was getting was probably because there was accumulation on the corona wires. After swiping these (and physically cleaning my drum unit), it seems the problem has cleared. I have a MFC-L8850CDW, so I suppose that the menu options and keys may vary, given that the model number is a little different and likely has different features and firmware.

Yes first time, I'm sure in future I'll buy a lot less cartridges. (I bought 3 but only 2 of the new ones worked).

So are you saying it doens't know how much colour toner it is using, so every b&w print also takes away from the colour cartridge count?
It seems so, there are different tones of black.
