    I have an all original 86 f150 XL. 5.0 a.o.d. made same month and year I was born. Was my dad's and I bought it from him for my first truck. Fell in love with it as a young boy and I still love it today.

    I'd had my baby for a long time, identical to this and I love it. Truck is my life, has never left me stranded but once. Dual tanks, plenty of power, rides good.. just perfect all around

    A buddy of mine had a gorgeous example of this same pickup back in '93 but in two tone red and white, sporting aluminum directional mag wheels wrapped with Kelly Safari all terrains. It had a perfectly tuned 460 mated to a 4 speed manual transmission. It was the baddest ass truck I've ever been in to this day.
    We'd haul ass to college on all the back raods between Eastern Oregon and Eastern Washington on a steady diet of Yukon Jack whiskey and Wayon Jennings cranking out of the alpine stereo system.
    Damn, time sure flies.

    My uncle got the first imported f150 to Ecuador, it was tough as hell, he claimed he towed tractors and rode across swamps, he once even crashed a bull and it was barely visible. My whole family married ford cars since then, even though they don't make them like they used to.

      ***** We have an 85 but it's got almost 300000 on it now and it's dented and rusted beyond help, always used for farm work it's whole life. The '13 is supposed to be our nice pickup but it gets used for farm work too. Personally I like the old ones better. It's a simpler design, easier to work on, doesn't break very easily, just all together a better pickup.

    • @tomswinburn1778
      @tomswinburn1778 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      The KISS principle. Keep it simple stupid. Disc brakes and electronic ignition were the two final "improvements" on trucks. Disc's are vastly superior to drums and anything to get rid of points. Beyond that, computers, electronic fuel injection with a jillion "sensors", the whole schmear is just WRONG. The ability to diagnose and repair yourself is gone. In its place CRAP that accomplishes little. We HEAR about how many more miles modern vehicles are capable of delivering. My old 300 CID inline sixes got north of 300,000, and NEVER needed a "real" mechanic. This new stih MAY be able to deliver more miles. but try keeping them running with all the computer crap.

      Had an '86 F250 Diesel - love/hate relationship with that one. Like the truck, the look, the utility, but was ALLways working on it. Bought a 1999 F-150 after that and after 20 years haven't put 1/2 the repair time into the '99 as I did in one year on that '86 diesel. Still miss the truck though.

    I have a 86’ F-150 just like this with 51,000 original miles,due to a cracked exhaust manifolds decided to step it up by putting headers and having it bored.30 over,long story short,I’ve had it in my garage for the last 28 years and will soon began the restoration process,I’m the original owner and everything is almost in place to be installed TCI streetfighter transmission,it will have dual exhaust and may need some dashboard replacement due to aging and cracking but,before long it should be on the streets again

    Dream truck. I miss the square body-style trucks had before the new millennia. I know they're more economic with the rounder, more aerodynamic bodies but they're just ugly. I plan on saving up for an old F150 to restore in the near future to cruise around town in on my days off.

      If you plan on restoring an 80-86 F150 short bed. Make sure to find one with the bed on the back. Nobody makes a short bed replacement. They make the long bed but not the short bed.

      No, I haven't but I have owned a 1978 F-150 and a 1977 F-100. Come to think of it, I guess you're right ... My uncle has a 1983 F-250 and he has already had to replace the cab and the bed is starting to rust again around the wheel wells. I know on the 67-72 F-100s they rust real bad around the inner aprons under the hood where the hood hinges bolt up.
