  • Hey all, Thanks for watching!
    This is the Gen 9 From Redcat Racing! Available in Blue and Gray this $399 crawler is definitely worth the money over it’s 320-340 dollar predecessor. That might grind the gears from a few hardocore Gen 8 fans but I promise the steering geometry alone is worth the money not to mention the two speed transmission and clipless body. Of course you have to remember to turn the tabs correctly or you’ll have a mishap like you see in the video but GOODBYE VELCRO!!!

    Okay. So this 2-speed portal axle demon has a terrific approach angle of 63.5 degrees, 80mm of ground clearance, and a 53 degree departure angle. It’s steering has been greatly improved and they’ve fixed the axle shift that created all the bumpsteering in the Gen 8 by reversing the servo and putting the linkage behind the servo. You can tell immediately the difference between the rigs. Solid improvement.
    This truck, a licensed International Harvester Scout 800a means business. While it uses the standard 32 pitch pinion and spur gear (technically .8 mod), the rest of the truck is running primarily mod 1 gears. Excellent for gearheads everywhere. Since running the truck I was completely stunned at how good the articulation is. Nice job Redcat! It’s ready for lights, many of the Gen 8 parts will work, and Treal has a bunch of stuff for it out that will have you excited to start flexing on the competition right quick.
    At first I really was thinking this was just a solid trail truck. Not so sure anymore. I can definitely see these hitting the comp circuits very soon. It’s a much better truck than I expected for $399 and I’ve definitely decided to invest in this rig just because of how happy I am with the steering improvement. I’ll definitely overdrive it (waiting for my Treal stuff to arrive currently, but it’s pretty awesome. Redcat has been slaying it lately.

    *Thanks so much for watching my video. This one in particular was tough. My mic gave out, I’m using a new gimbal, the settings on my gopro were wonky, and as I was approaching the area I wanted to climb this group of families showed up and went right to it just to take pictures. Guess that’s on me for not getting up early enough lol! So thank you so much for your support! Big love to everyone that subscribes and gives this video a like. That anyone would watch my videos humbles me greatly. Thank you!

    Love the colour on that rig. I like the RedCat since Gen7, this Gen9 is amazing. They are always good with the steering angle. 😊👍🏼

    And the dip switched are just channel reverse/normal positions. Says it right on the radio transmitter.

      So right, for 1 and 2 that's correct. But 3 and 4 are live and you do have one slot open on the 4ch so you can do lights from that controller without swapping the setup or having them always on

    Excellent overview my friend ! Really detailed breakdown of this new and awesome Gen 9
    never noticed there was that much movement in my Gen 8 front end! I still love my Gen 8 ,but these new gen 9's are calling to me! love the 2 speed, but im just as happy with a single speed, although the extra wheel speed helps alot through mud and snow! great video brother! really like your knowledge and your delivery and demeanor! great job!😁

    Its not a micro servo thing. As long as your endpoints are set properly your good. I have the gen9 and when and if i shift i just tap reverse slightly so the GEARS can fall in place inside the transmission. Its not the servo. Its the gears falling into place inside the trans. It happens in most other crawlers too. Happens on my vanquish, and my scx10iii dig and 2 speed transmission GEARS

    • @redvikinghobbies
      @redvikinghobbies  ปีที่แล้ว

      After I set my endpoints I saw some improvement but swapping my servo to an ecopower made a heck of a difference just from the speed and force. Definitely recommend that swap regardless of preferred brand. I had a savox and a micro reefs but felt like that was overkill and the eco was cheap and has been surprisingly good. My first time using them. Thanks for your responses!

    In 20 years of collecting and bashing, RC cars and trucks, I never really got into crawling. But now I really would love to give it a try. I have some awesome wooded trails by me. Once I get everything back in order I def will try to pick up a trail truck/crawler.. thanks for the info this truck seems awesome

      Fun rig. I'm also a huge fan of the Enduro Ecto or Zuul which is their more scale Ecto. Phenomenal crawler out of the box. Top 5 rtr crawlers without a doubt. 👍

    If you had the cash to buy one or the other which would you spend the money on? I have a gen 7 that's kind of worn out. And have been thinking gen 8 or gen 9 but dont know if the 2 speed trans is worth the hype?

    • @redvikinghobbies
      @redvikinghobbies  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Today, Wed Sep 20, 2023 the Gen 8 is only $237.69 on sale. I'd buy that all day long! I sold my Gen 8 shelf queen but for that price I'm ordering one and another Gen 9 which is under $300. The Gen 8 Velcro doubles the weight in the wheel wells so kill that and add brass because it has body roll and tighten up the steering linkgage at the panhard and you'll still be under 300. I do like having the 2 speed on the Gen 9 and replaced the servo early. I would learn later from running with a guy that kept his Redcat servo (I'm running an EcoPower for the trans) that a slight adjustment on their servo will do the trick. So for their sale price of $297 today it's a good deal. The mirrors are toast on everyone's Gen 9 but the body is excellent. My best upgrade cost nothing. I was noticing some torque twist if I got stuck hard up against a rock or something and after investigation realized the drive shafts are actually a tad too long on the sides that slide into the other driveshaft housing. So I took a quarter inch off each side and that did it. They were basically not telescoping in far enough. The aftermarket ones I'd later put on were fine (Treal.)
      But today, bang for the buck, Gen 8 while they're in stock. Cheaper than a Gen 7 right now and have tons of aftermarket accessories. Beautiful crawlers. I like my Gen 9 but if someone asked if I'd rather have a Enduro Ecto without 2 speed or a Gen 9 I'd say Ecto all day. That's the crawler you buy for $330. I now have 3 of those. One of which barely breaks 3lbs. (Seperate esc, bec, holmes outrunner.) But you can't beat this sale for a Gen 8. You won't have any regrets. If the prices were back to normal I'd say 9 but before either I'd say Ecto.
      Just for kicks go check out the new pre-order for the new Ecto called the Zuul. It's tight.
      Thanks for the question!

      @stevencampbell5831 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@redvikinghobbies thank you so much for the detailed explanation. I'm gonna order a gen 8 this afternoon. As you said it's hard to beat at that price and with the upgrades it should be fine. Also I've learned that later in the year they are releasing the 2 speed transmission for the gen 8 so I might just pick that up also. You do great work on here brother. Thank you.

    • @redvikinghobbies
      @redvikinghobbies  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @stevencampbell5831 I completely forgot. I don't remember if it was on Redcat Live or if one of the guys there told me about it but I'll leave the link here. But first, quick note, you have to change your transmitter/receiver to do this. So add that to the cost. I'm gonna recommend Flysky or Radiolink so people can spend within their budget. Flysky can get you a good radio for under 50 all the way up to the Noble Pro which can use all their cheaper receivers. Futaba gets a little pricey if you don't know which receiver to buy.

      The Gt3b and its variants are harder to do one handed than the GT5. I have 2 GT3 and after a miserable one handed outing with it trying to film I put an extension on one and then a tire that fir perfectly round the other. This won't concern anyone using two hands and I'm slowly moving everything over to my noble if it's gonna be one handed driving. Big noble fan so might as well put that link up too...
