    I almost forgot to mention that this is probably the most important video in your series if anyone wants to replicate only the exterior of his firebird. Excellent work!

      Thanks, the reality though shows that most of these cars need a bit of TLC in every department anyways lol ...rust, wiring, interior, fluids, seals, brakes. If its in top condition already, one would be a fool not to keep it in its original condition ;-)

      @@MotorScotti agreed, I i could get my hands on a top condition 3rd gen firebird at a decent cost, probably I wouldn't touch it.

    Your absolutely right. I ran into that same issue and I couldn't believe how important that airdam really is. I thought I had a bad water pump and I even applied new hoses with coolant flush. But then I got under the car and realized that I must of hit a really big pothole or curb. Because a big portion of my air dam had cracked off. So I'm living proof.😆. After I replaced by it. It was completely fine. Great video Sir

      Thanks a lot! Glad it helped to 'fix' your car! Many people don't like that air dam, especially on a KITT replica, but I don't mind and as I'm driving the car especially in the summer, the cooling system just needs to work properly.

    Oh man, now you’ve got me nervous. I bought aftermarket fenders. I’m curious how they didn’t fit, do you have pics?

    • @MotorScotti
      @MotorScotti  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They probably would have if they had arrived undamaged. They got a bit warped and damaged in the front. It was less work to alter the factory fenders but I'm keeping the new ones just in case I'd get in an accident and have to change one.

  • @rockandmetaljunkie
    @rockandmetaljunkie 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Some have reported that in order to fit the front bumper, you have to actually cut an entire piece of the headlight bezel. Did you had to do that too?

    • @MotorScotti
      @MotorScotti  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes the lip of the headlight bezel needs to be trimmed down to clear the Knight Rider nose (except on 91-92 headlights). I'll go into that in my bodywork and paint video in a few weeks.

    6:59 a base v8 firebird well unless it was a formula firebird nope they where a v6 but if you got a v8 great, either someone put the v8 in or it was a formula firebird and it would say on the lower sides of the car unless someone took them off

    • @MotorScotti
      @MotorScotti  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I didn't say it was a base Firebird, I said it was a base V8 Firebird. In other words, the V8 with the lowest power of the 1990 Firebird, which was this 305 TBI. It came like this from the factory. I have the factory bill, all of the original paper work and obviously VIN to back this. 🫡

    Do all 3rd gens come with that air dam? To my knowledge, you are the only You-Tuber who has mentioned it.
    And another quick question regarding the fender vent gaps of the 1982 trans ams. Are these made for functional reasons or for cosmetics? Cause it seems your car didn't need these and you only made those holes for cosmetic reasons, correct? Of course, yours is a different model so I'm interested to know if there was any difference between one model and the other. Why did Pontiac even stopped making those openings?

    • @MotorScotti
      @MotorScotti  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, all 3rd gens have an air dam. They are a vital part of the cooling system. Otherwise, the air is not guided into the radiator properly and the engine may overheat. Replica builders tend to remove them because KITT didn't have it. Again, show car vs a car you want to actually use. To each their own.
      All Trans Am have the fender vents. They are not a functional must but they were designed to help the air flow and improve the cooling of the brakes.
