I think it's just we're into western music nowadays that's why even though there are some great new OPM songs, some of us appreciate more the western music than our local music. Compare before that we're all into OPM that's why there are a lot of hits before.
It's because di pa masyadong maraming na produce na singers in their era. Compared now andami ng singers from the voice, tnt, idol ph, tapos yung iba mga non-showbiz nag cocover ng sarili nilang music. The music industry in this generation is getting more competitive. Kaya nga yung mga singer on 90's nalaos na din dahil din sa interest ng mga listeners which is more on Pop songs. I still remember how almost everyone rooted for Sheryn and I was rooting for Erik. Since his day one in the competition I already chose him as my winner. He always had this grit and determination to win that could be felt in his performance everytime he’s on the stage. He always performed as if each was his last. I felt that Erik deserved the title despite that many said he didn’t. Twenty years later and he’s still in the industry proving to everyone who doubted him that the trophy belonged to him and to him alone. Inspite of the fame and fortunes he earned through the years he remains humble. A real champion all in all. 💕
With all the talks about the result, I'd say Erik fought for that title and he rightfully deserved it. This performance must have been the sole deciding factor for the judges. He really shines in this one.

I have watched his final performance 2003. I was not good in music but when i heard him sing sinabi ko sa lahat ng kasama kong nanonood na si Erik ang mananalo. Tagos sa puso ang performance niya, so from then on I was a fan.
Di ko nasubaybayan ang Star in a Million, but I was able to witness the grand finals. I won’t say that he was the best singer, but he was the better performer that time. It was like, he gave it all in that performance. I had goosebumps while watching his performance that day, I still get goosebumps whilst watching the same performance every time.

I was in high school when this thing happened, when erick won, my family said that sheryn was robbed, i was against them ever since. I am a Sheryn fan from sthe start to the end but i will, be honest, Erik's performance on Grand Final was a winning perfromance, a winning moment. Well deserved. 2022 and still watching 😂
This is without a doubt one of the legendary performance in a singing contest in philippine history.
Yung akala natin lahat si Sheryn ang mananalo kasi consistent sya from the start..pero iba si Erik nung gabing ito! super galing nya dito..

I'm not really a big fan of erik but when he sang this song during that final day of competition I knew he's the winner. Gave me chills and even up to this day hearing this again, he is really the clear winner..👏👏👏😊

I think it's just we're into western music nowadays that's why even though there are some great new OPM songs, some of us appreciate more the western music than our local music. Compare before that we're all into OPM that's why there are a lot of hits before.

It's because di pa masyadong maraming na produce na singers in their era. Compared now andami ng singers from the voice, tnt, idol ph, tapos yung iba mga non-showbiz nag cocover ng sarili nilang music. The music industry in this generation is getting more competitive. Kaya nga yung mga singer on 90's nalaos na din dahil din sa interest ng mga listeners which is more on Pop songs. Yung iba kinukuha na lang mag judge sa tnt or any like sila Rey Valera etc. Yung iba guest sa tv shows.

There are singing contests that are won by SONG CHOICES and this one is the best example. Konteseras take note.

Do not question the song choice of this grand final whatever the song chosen by miss sheryn she still always nailed it. There's just a biased decision has been made during the final and still sheryn got her song nicely than that erick there's always flat of erics tone and his out of control i dont like the running of this final segment.
One good example din yung "Emotions" performance ni Elha. After nun, naselyuhan na niya ang puso ng mga viewers na siya ang karapat dapat na TVK winner during her time. 🥰
Erik sang with full emotion while Sheryn sang with just power. To make a big impact and wow the audience, you must connect to their hearts. In all art forms, the emotional connection trumps everything else.

I still remember how almost everyone rooted for Sheryn and I was rooting for Erik. Since his day one in the competition I already chose him as my winner. He always had this grit and determination to win that could be felt in his performance everytime he’s on the stage. He always performed as if each was his last. I felt that Erik deserved the title despite that many said he didn’t. Twenty years later and he’s still in the industry proving to everyone who doubted him that the trophy belonged to him and to him alone. Inspite of the fame and fortunes he earned through the years he remains humble. A real champion all in all. 💕
With all the talks about the result, I'd say Erik fought for that title and he rightfully deserved it. This performance must have been the sole deciding factor for the judges. He really shines in this one.
A masterpiece to consider... this is how erik surprise all the audience and viewers who followed him from the very beginning to winning the competition... a heartfelt performance no one knows one like him can do... he sang it perfectly the way he delivered the song was so great. A life changing performance.. to be fair... sheryn is no doubt one of the best contestant to consider... from beginning to end.. all her performances were perfect that amazed not only the fans and judges but also the people who support her journey... however.. when erik started to sing... good sake evry notes are all damn perfect.. he own the song....applaused to erik
During the competition Sheryn was consistent Top 1 However Sheryn sings to impress while Erik sings to express. Thats why Erik won the heart of the Judges.

I guess, I was just 11 when this show aired. Favorite ko noon si Sheryn. Weekly sya inaabangan ko. I was sad before when I knew Erik was announced champion. But watching it now im 26 (with some knowledge of music and experience) i finally know the reason why Erik won.

Lagi sya yung top 1 dito e, tiwala ako sya ang magchachampion. I was 11 yrs old back then at wala pa ako alam sa mga technicality sa pagkanta ganun. During the final performance palakpak ako ng palakpak after kumanta ni Sheryn, ang galing e. Pero si Eric, yung reaction ko nakanganga ako tapos gusto kong maiyak tapos goosebumps talaga. Yung iyak na tumagos sa akin yung kanta. Yun pala yung tinatawag nila na tatagos sa puso mo yung kanta, feel na feel ko sya, nakuha nya yung puso ko sa finals. And since back to zero ang score ayun nanalo si Eric.
Wow!!!! Ang galing! Para sa akin unfair na sbihin n hindi siya krpt dpt mging champion. Both of them are mgaling pero that performance of Erik was excellent. He also deserved the title and I believe it was God's destiny for him to win.

Hinding hindi ko malilimutan tong moment na to sa TV. Inaabangan namin lagi ni lola ang SIAM at parehas naming gusto na si Erik talaga ang manalo. Nung inannounce na nanalo si Erik, sobrang saya namin ni lola nagpalakpakan kami hahaha! Di nga ata ako nakatulog nun kasi Sunday na kinabukasan at excited ako kasi siguradong guest sila sa ASAP nyan. At si Erik Santos din pala first crush ko since Grade 5 ako nung kasagsagan nito. After nya manalo, lagi nang pinapatugtog yung This is the Moment sa school namin as in sa buong campus yan bago mag umpisa ang klase. Kaya mas ginanahan tuloy ako pumasok ng maaga nun. Hahaha! Good old memories.
Fast forward, 30 yrs old na ako ngayon pero bumabalik pa rin ako dito once in a while para panoorin to at alalahanin na din si lola. Wala na siya e pero patuloy kong hahangaan at susuportahan si Erik Santos dahil napakahumble despite sa lahat ng natamasa nya sa 21 yrs nya sa industriya. Napakamapagmahal na anak pa. Deserve nya lahat ng biyaya nya sa buhay ngayon.

I have watched his final performance 2003. I was not good in music but when i heard him sing sinabi ko sa lahat ng kasama kong nanonood na si Erik ang mananalo. Tagos sa puso ang performance niya, so from then on I was a fan.
When i was watching this finals LIVE and saw this performance of erik santos, sabi ko "Ay sya na!" and he did! Emotions, song choice check!

Di ko nasubaybayan ang Star in a Million, but I was able to witness the grand finals. I won’t say that he was the best singer, but he was the better performer that time. It was like, he gave it all in that performance. I had goosebumps while watching his performance that day, I still get goosebumps whilst watching the same performance every time.
I clearly remember this performance. I was already rooting for him then he did this. I was like "WOW, WE HAVE A WINNER!" 😊😊😊😊

I was in high school when this thing happened, when erick won, my family said that sheryn was robbed, i was against them ever since.
Just look at this performance, it is very clear that Erick's performance is more lively, he connected with the song and he belted the notes very very well.. not to mention the diction is very clear, opera like.
