I knew all these facts. Glad that you mentioned the Pluto manga. I would have been slightly impressed if you mentioned that Astro also has a brother named Cobalt. Many people don't know about him and seems to be buried in history.

atom was called Astro Boy in the US because there was already a kid character called Atom featured in US comics ; also the space program was just getting hot in the US and the term Astro was more indicative of science and adventure. "Boy" was added to pack more umph to the name and to connect the character to the fact that's he's a super-hero.. After the 60's, the 80's color English translations just called him Astro even though the title continued to be Astro Boy.

NOW Comics (That's how they spelled it) also had an Astro Boy comic run and IDW did a supposed prequel to the movie that actually felt more in line as a sequel for continuity's sake.
