Since Godot 4.3 TileMaps have been updated and now the layers functionality (22:10 - 24:10) is different. Anything else in the video is still valid and up to date. I added an updated version of this video: th-cam.com/video/2o_IiotMnls/w-d-xo.html
I randomly stumbled on this video. I was pretty familiar with tilesets already but I still learned a few amazing things here (especially the scene collection in tiles). Such an amazing and well done video. You have such a likeable personality, dont stop making videos!
This was very informative. I was thinking that those tips can't help me much in my top-down game, but it does help a lot. Appreciate the time you spent doing this tutorial. Of course I would like to request a top-down tutorial teaching how to handle player jumping of cliffs and other interactions if you are considering doing more tilemap stuff. Anyways, hope you gather more followers soon, great content! Cheers.
This is a great tutorial. First, thanks a lot for that. :-) It would be awesome if you can make more about it especially about the other layer-types like navigation layer, custom layer,. .
Do you plan to make a updated version of the video, for tilemaps (when updated "Tilemap Layers"), when version 4.3 release is out? Would be great! This helped me a lot!
Appreciate the explanation. I still have some question which I can't find the answers too. How does the process lookj like with loading differnet tilemaps for different levels, it tried by drawing whole patterns as levels but I cant change them after saving which makes it really tedious process. I'm sure there must be some other way where i can load tilemaps
It mostly depends on what you want to do, but you can save a TileSet by going to your TileMap, selecting your tileset and clicking on the arrow next to it. There, you'll see a save button. Now, for copying the exact layout of one of your previous tilemaps, it could maybe work to simply copy the tilemap as a whole. If you find a better solution I'd be really curious to find out about it! 🥜
25:25 for the physics layer 0 as you painted what tiles you want to collide with the player but what if you made a mistake. How do you undo that one particular tile?.

I appreciate it a lot! Thanks for supporting me 🥜
very good tutorial
Hey it would be great if you would go over the programming around them, I found it very complicated. How do you set and get a tile?
Thanks for the great idea. This is very helpful insight! I will make sure to add it to my list and, hopefully, make a video soon on it.
Do one for the isometric style tylemap would be nice to see
Thanks for the suggestion! Will do one soon, for sure! 🥜

You can chose to draw something else (no collision) or to remove all dots and draw again over it. This will also draw a 'no collision'.
Could you do one way collisions and more on the scene as tile?
Thanks for the idea! I'll add it to the list!
Is thia irrelevant now that Tilemap Layers has come out?
No. The only outdated part is how multiple layers are handled. Basically that would be between 22:10 and 24:10 . I'm looking to update that part soon!
Tilemaps are deprecated now. :(
Tilemaps have been updated in 4.3, but they are by no means deprecated. They're an outstanding tool still! 🥜
