Yes, it's not as if courtesans had much control over whom they would serve in the first place even putting aside the fact that he's the Emperor. It's a little sad especially cos Ruyi barely blames the Emperor for all his indiscretions until the last. Of course, the truth is that it's easier to punish the women than to reprimand the Emperor.
It wasn't so much that they served the emperor but that they were advertising it for everyone to see. If they had all kept it hush hush the punishment might not of been so severe. for those wondering, the women being sent to a nunnery is very similar as to why empress fuca in the story of yanxi palace sent yingluo to xinzheku: to avoid execution.

@@ambauers18 I’ve tried a few times but i can’t accept the way the writers twisted and tarnished imperial consort Ling and Empress Fuca to make them evil when it’s not true at all and they made the Emperor Qianlong an idiot and the historical records prove he was no idiot.
I understand that they wanted the story to be dramatic but to completely write the 2 women this man seemed to have held close to his heart is too much, even making it seem like he regretted the way things ended with Ruyi in his last moments is such disrespect as that emperor hated Ruyi and was still writing poetry and love letters to Empress Fuca even in his 80,s .

@@ambauers18 I’m watching The Story of Yanxi’s Palace for the 3rd time it’s another version of Ruyi’s love in the palace but from Consort Ling’s POV, same empire just a different perspective and some people’s names are a little different. ‘The rebel Princess ‘is good , it’s not really based on a Real Historical figure but it’s the same theme As in Periodic based drama, ‘Wonderland of Love’ has some imperial elements but it’s more adventurous but still good, I love the leads😂(They are also in y Yanxi’s palace) and Royal Feast is also ok.
‘Empresses in the palace’ is the prequel to Ruyi’s so it’s the same story but the older characters like The ED , Qianlong’s father etc. I’ll let you know if anything else comes to mind, in the meantime just search here and watch trailers to see if you might find anything interesting. 🌸
