    As a service dog handler I genuinely hate the community sometimes. Some people are SO judgmental, act like they know everything, and like their dogs have never made a mistake. After being bullied off tik tok I made it a pact for me to never judge another service dog handler and it’s genuinely made me a happier person.

    People who get protection/guard dogs (as Service Dogs) and then act surprised when their dogs growl or bark like they are bred to do, astound me. I have seen SO much hate in the community lately towards people who have a bad day or a small mistake, no one is perfect and honestly out of all the TH-camrs i follow and watch you are NOT a problematic member of the vlogging community and the Service Dog community and you seem like a chill laid-back person/young adult. Honestly a type of person I would be friends with and would ask to hang out 24/7 (too bad i live in Vegas). Keep up the good work and keep on doing yourself and not focusing on others and their drama.

      @JayofallTrades 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Agreed. I mean my dog literally went off on some dude while off leash and i had to scold her. I felt mortified cuz i know how the community can be judgemental. Yet she's a small Chihuahua and I've seen more people be terrified of her than say a shepherd or a rottweiler who are common guard dog breeds.

    • @KathrynCurtis
      @KathrynCurtis 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@JayofallTrades Exactly, and you can't tell them "that was what the breed was meant to do" or they will act like you picked the wrong dog. And Chihuahua's are little dogs with big dog courage (i live with my Sister In Law who has a 18 year old Chihuahua and all that dog does is try and bite ankles lmao)

      I have a Rottweiler service dog, and you’d better believe I’ve trained him differently from my Shihtzu. While training is very important, genetics cannot be completely trained away. Show lines vs working lines in sport and working dogs are night and day! You should work with your dogs genetic traits to make a great and natural working dog. I would never want to force my dog to ignore his instincts, it would be a never ending battle. I wanted a dog who was calm and could handle stressful situations with a cool head. When I looked at dogs with my trainer, she immediately dismissed three quarters of them. Good dog owners should always accept and educate the traits of their breed, the whole “it’s the owner not the breed” mindset causes a lot of unnecessary bites. We’ve been attacked twice by these type of owners “he won’t bite” dogs, it was SO dumb. Why do they even bring them in public let alone in stores? Baron just stood there and let them snap, thankfully he had a better attitude than I did. 😂

    I went to talk to service dog handlers online to ask questions (I'm considering an SD as treatment for my chronic illness) and I was met with so much negativity I was so confused by what I had "done wrong" by asking for advice on tasks and breeds like the SD community is so toxic

      It is, I try to stay away from those groups because they’re just so toxic, however if you need information on service dogs all the service dog laws are on ada.gov, and there’s plenty of service dog handlers who are video influencers just be careful of registries, they are scams, you can also ask me any questions I’ve had a service dog for over two years now

      Yeah, I understand how you feel. A lot of the community says opinion and not facts. I’ve been bashed by the community too. All I know is as long as you’re not breaking the law and you are disabled you can get a service dog and you don’t need to go to the doctor for it. It’s a good idea though since they are the experts. I'm thinking about getting a service dog to. There are a lot of things that drive me crazy about this community and one of them is saying that a service dog should be your last option. Or that you need a doctor to see if you are qualified. There is nowhere in the ADA that says that stuff. They shouldn’t be judging. Everybody has their own stories and their own illnesses, but one thing we all have in common is we are all disabled and we love our animals.

    At least in my opinion, the biggest issue in the SD community is the hate between Handler trained service dogs and Organization trained service dogs.
    Handler trained SD teams feel like they need to be on the "up and up" because organization service dogs have "official paperwork". Handler trained service dogs feel "illegitimate and fake" because they do not have a organization to back them. And that their dog "isn't perfect".
    Then on the other hand, you have organization SD teams that feel that handler trained service dogs are cheap knock offs because the "handler is/isn't disabled". And feel targeted because some handler trained service dogs "act out" which makes service dogs look bad.
    I have a organization trained guide dog and have some friends with owner/handler trained service dogs and I have friends with organization trained service dogs so I have heard both sides.

      Isn't it law that registered service dogs don't act out in ways we see fake dogs do? EG, severe barking. peeing indoors? Attacking other service dogs?
      What is universally accepted?

    • @albinoguidedog
      @albinoguidedog 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Blackdragon99omfg A real service dog won't bark inside but some of them are trained to do that for specific tasks, like for diabetes or PTSD but it all depends on what they're trying to do. And peeing inside sometimes service dogs have accidents no matter how well they're trained, no dog is perfect and it doesn't take much to scare them even with years of experience and training. And real service dogs no matter how scared should never lash out at other dogs. Most organizations teach their service dogs to run instead of fight.

Like her alerts and tasks are slow. She is a very smart dog (German shepherd) but she just isn’t has hyped to do it. She is a very fast learner though :) she learned around in under 2 minutes today. I am hoping to get a shepherd this weekend and guess where she's coming from? Tampa. I'm so excited and hoping my dad says yes. She's koda's age and already knows basic commands but I will have to train her for my health needs. Maybe max can show her a few skills. I have been told i shouldn't get another dog and they don't understand why i plan on getting another dog. So some people can be so toxic and i just unfriended those people online.

    I have been used for money with multiple Service Dog Facilities saying they'd take me pay $$$$ then on the interview despite our Senior Dogs who have been seen by both specialists inorder full evaluation additional by trainer they have ability to do minor tasking for my CPTSD, Anxiety, Asthma Attacks and yet after receiving documentation that they would be fine with a Service Dog in our home. The facilities interogated me and tried to go over what EMS Documentation was given to me and said they are just pets we don't think you could handle the necessary training or might be incapable to train the Service Dog with having to EMS-Tasking dogs already at home. We also have cats and one also is able to do what the dogs can and the training paid off. However its not enough and they tell me get rid of them, rehome them or even worse the comment wait till they pass on and die then contact us again. I was mortified, humiliated and degraded and sickly enough the 3 facilities disreguards the EMS-PTSD Tasking letter and said no pets in home. Apparently a reaccouring theme towards civilians with CPTSD/PTSD but a double standard if your a Veteran or 1st Responder who I have respect for can have pets untrained and unable to task already as pets at home, but not a civilian with same condition like wth?! I have raised part of the cost, however with what was said by the 3 places and and how I was interogated and not treated respectfully during online interviews I am all but ready to give back the money I needed for my Service Dog and give up after these horrible cruel and traumatizing experiences with Service Dog Facilities if the one my specialists recommended say No and use our EMS-CPTSD tasking dogs as an excuse not to go through with it. Its expensive and you get no refunds after spending $$$$$$$ for Applications and the Medical Assessment to be sent in by specialists then their $75+ skype view when you could clearly tell it was about making money with no intention of possible candidacy, they plaid me and its degrading and humiliating how can Service Dog Facilities do such a thing.
    I'm no longer being optimistic and have had anxiety attacks = nause and vomiting because of these experiences by Service Dog Facilities while waiting to see if the last recommended one will or won't after requiring $275 for paperwork will take me.
