Thanks again Dr. Tabor for this wonderful presentation of the different worldviews about the afterlife and their development, from the Ancient Hebrews, Sumerians Epic of Gilgamesh, Babylonians, The Golden Plates, Greek, Plato, Gnostic ideas, Pauline ideas. To have a better rounder view and to understand all sides, I also studied hundreds of ideas from Historicists, skeptics, mythicist, agnostics, atheists as well as Ancient Near East thought, Hebrew, OT writings, Essene's, Midrash, Apocrypha, and the New Testament and also Buddhism, Hinduism Catholicism and Roman/Greek ideas. 🔥
All I can say After ALL is said and done. It's waaay better to believe and put our Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. His Resurrection collapsed all the powers and authorities, whether One believes or not. History points to this historic day as his triumph over death. All the "facts" you have mentioned points to the Truth that we are just temporary here and this is not our final destination. "Real" Reality is above the physical world and materialism is a fraud.
You said you are 78 years, and you are blessed because you have studied these things well because these are the best things to study. Everything material will end, every suffering, every sickness and death itself will be swallowed in victory ONE day. Christ alone has the answer. I don't give a d@mn if I will offend the unbelievers. But JESUS CHRIST is the Way, The Truth and the Life. Keep the Faith Sir James Tabor. The summary of all your lectures points to Christ, in whom the manifold wisdom of God is made manifest. God Bless You!🙏

The more you study all this, the more you realize that all these books and religious doctrines are most likely man-made as offensive as that may seem to some that are still believers in these religions, as absurd as they may seem. I do have the comfort that if an Abrahamic God does exist, it is most likely as the jews/Hebrew scriptures portray. God doesn't burn people. People burn people, and the church has burned people.
And for the Christians, durr, Jesus is lord, durr, yawn. Hebrew 9:22 states there can be no forgiveness of sin without the shedding of blood. INCORRECT There are many examples of people achieving forgiveness with prayer and repentance, including a whole city of gentiles in the book of Jonah. The Hebrew scriptures tell you how to reconcile with God, and no, Jesus isn't involved. Hey, but do as you're told/taught.

@@paulm283 I'm glad for that, my friend. Thanks for chiming in. ALL those "various ways" and "points of views" indeed points to Jesus Christ. And you are perfectly right, It's a "no-brainer". So many opinions, religions, traditions, worldviews, philosophies have come and gone throughout the centuries to offer answers and solutions to man's greatest questions and problems, but nothing comes close to the fullness, power, Truth and completeness that one can only find in Jesus Christ. 🔥
Let me give a side note to the other "doubting" commenters as well. Only when you look at things from all sides, you will fully understand where they are coming from. After studying ancient near East, Hebrew, Greek, Romans, Gnostic writings and listened to Bart Ehrman, Dawkins, Price, Carrier, etc. to understand their point of view. (Like Bart's main dilemma about "the Problem of Evil"). All can be easily answered if you view it from the grand scheme of things, A.K.A. "God's perspective" and not man's limited perspective.
The Old Testament/Ancient Hebrew events are just "types and shadows" of the greater things to come. (e.g: Jonah, Isaac, temple, Melchizedek, high priest, blameless lamb sacrifice, blood atonement, etc.) are all type and shadows of the ultimate final sacrifice which is Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins. (yes, without shedding of the blood there's no forgiveness to sin.). "Our present sufferings on this earth are nothing compared to what will be revealed on that appointed day. To our skeptics and naysayer friends, don't waste your life doubting, because in the end, 100% guarantee, You will surely come face to the one and only bearer of the Truth - and that is none other than JESUS CHRIST. King of kings, and name above All names. (no fanaticism, dogma or blind faith intended, just FACTS).💯

Thank you for sharing this perspective on Gnosticism and the history of religion. One of my areas of interest is the emergence of Christianity from the mixing bowl of ideas that were developing at that time (Hellenistic/Roman period). It is a subject that is fascinating because of it's bottomless complexity, and also, for the fact that it requires that I personally have to adjust and improve myself with every new thing that I learn and be flexible and respectful to all the people who interact with this question, their beliefs, and their traditions. It is an area of investigation that has been a source of immense personal growth for me, because it teaches patience, forbearance, listening, caution, and, in short, the kinds of qualities of mind that really develop a person in a positive way.

I can think if a couple instances where reincarnation seemed to be a concept they had asking Jesus who John was and their response when he asked them who they thought he was. Same with that blind guy he healed when they asked why he was born blind. Doesn’t Judaism believe Elijah will return? And Ezekial indicates David himself will return too. So where did these ideas come from?

Greetings Dr Tabor, this question is off topic. But wanted to ask on your most recent upload in hopes you could answer.
What did the Dead Sea group (referred to as the Essenes) believe really happened with the Passover lamb’s blood, killing it and putting its blood over the doorposts? I understand they didn’t believe or celebrate the killing of lamb’s. In their view did this blood over doorposts event actually happen or was that added in the text.
    Thank you.

There is a book called “The Threshold Covenant” by Clay Trumbull that is free to read online. It discusses the pagan origins of blood sacrifice. Since we are told many times by the Hebrew prophets that YHWH never required sacrifices of animals, the Passover sacrifice of an animal was likely added to the text by “lying scribes” as warned by Jeremiah. I personally believe the sect at Qumran was a group that understood The Passover to be a time of remembrance of the power of YHWH to save a remnant that were diligent seekers of the ECHAD who created all good things. You’re the first person I’ve known to post that the Essenes (I believe they were Zadokite priests after listening to Rachel Elior) did not believe in the killing of lambs… thank you 🙏

    • @dirtypickle77
      @dirtypickle77 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

The passover isn't any type of sin sacrifice. Killing lambs in Egypt was a capital offense at the time. The passover is to commemorate the bravery of the people to fear God over the Egyptian army and put the blood right on the front door. Only the holmes that had a firstborn male were in danger. It was the busiest time of the year at the temple, with many people bringing an offering, but none of it was a sin sacrifice. The other sacrifices that were brought throughout the year were for unintentional sins, not individual known sin as laid out in leviticus starting in chapter 4.

When the guardians ask the name, it reminds me of when Jacob was asked by the angel in Genesis, “what is your name,” and then he was given the name of Yasharel, which means “upright of God.” Anyone who is unsure of this needs only reference the original Hebrew spelling of yasharel and israel, they are exactly the same.

Very interesting, there is a Greek word but I forget where in the Bible it is besides the New testament but it says that you are either fallen to the earth as in a fallen angel or you were sit here on assignment😮
I heard Jonathan kleck breaking down some text in the New testament and the definition of the word was what I stated above. I had a feeling I should go back and really pay attention to where he was reading but I did not and then his whole TH-cam channel disappeared. His TH-cam channel is back but all the videos from the past are gone plus he had so many videos I could probably never find it again.
So my thought is also very dualistic and that the wicked and the righteous go to sleep and then at the resurrection of the living and the dead there will be the judgment some to everlasting life and some to everlasting shame and contempt. At the Resurrection of the dead those who have passed over will receive their new bodies, spiritual bodies just like Jesus.
The New testament also says absent from the body present with the Lord and I believe that's talking about those who have received Jesus, believed on Jesus and followed his teachings versus the unrighteous unbelieving wicked people who will be thrown into the bottomless pit with the false prophet and the Antichrist.
Of course the timing of events is unknown. The Bible speaks of two resurrections so to me that could be when Jesus was resurrected maybe possibly the first resurrection because he said that the saints came back to life when he Jesus was resurrected. Maybe then there's another Resurrection or they were talking about the future and they were not including the resurrection of Jesus and the saints 😊

Hmm, the repetition in norms is practiced in the religion of natural, of the present word, in order to normalise their lives in the face of reality.
      My apologies, very tired.
Anyway, the part after getting to the point was much better, and I can understand why people like the author. To me, it's a naturalistic or spiritualised misconception. The arguments here can be applied to both naturalistic Earth bound religion and gnosticism. Wisdom is to not to necessarily know you are wise, but to perceive you are not, where you are not. We see in part, we perceive in part. If there is origin and there is structure rather than just chaos, then there is an destination, if not just a journey without end. So, if the structure is a plan, what is the plan. That makes sense to me, it probably makes sense to many out there, rather than just an evil creator displaced by the thought of evil deities, who were just ancient evil people who rebelled and were honoured. Indeed, the study of the origins of gnosticism, and the study of the origins of the mysteries, everything unravels, and structure returns.
I have experienced what lies beyond, and it is unfathomable to those who haven't experienced it. A constant state of this, of perfect peace, contentment and joy, but also full of knowledge. Happier than thy youth!

The Book of Job was composed by Elohim the Verb and given to the Maji in BCE 3760 to anchor that runs straight as a laser, through the Cross and forward to Apollo 11 bt wat if Gebesis 15:5 God the Father does to Abram's mind what Jesus does to His Disciples' minds in Luke 24:45 and transforms them into Apostles, It's a graduation ceremony, like when they pin your Ranger tab on your left sleeve.
In Genesis 15, Abram has fallen into a profound, gut typical, post-combat depression. In Genesis 14, Abram goes into battle and fights, side-by-side, with Yaweh, Queen of Battle (AA Yaweh with a uterus) and goes into a parlay when Melchizedek appears with bread and wine and does a little process theology to prepare his mind, leaves a tithe and disappears,
.Genesis 14 ends that phase of the battle, but, in Genesis, Abram is alone on the battlefield and the adrenal high has worn off and he's tired and spiritually empty, I've had tht experience many times after combat and after rugby games, wellington observed that, except for a battle lost, there is nothing more melancholy that a battle gained", That's what is going on for Abram, And God the Father appears on the stage and takes advantage of Abram's vulnerability to violate his Free Will and give him a a brief glimpse of the face of Elohim the verb. He gave Abram a "born Again" moment.
There is a part of the human psyche that is unavailable to The One and is the sacrosanct component of Free Will. I am totally an Intelligence Design Christian, but I also am totally Darwinian, Enoch's 5000 year Epoch is just more evidence in my mind that the Big Bang describe in Genesis 1:1 happened about 13.1 years ago and Earth 4 billion odd years ago as measured by the 60 base numerology of the Maji. I have had a working relationship with the Holy Spirit since I was six years old and he confirms all these assumptions, I am being led by the Holy Spirit in my commentary regarding the literature of the Bible and my role is to stumble over stuff other people can consider for themselves and enter into a working relationship with the Holy Spirit on their own terms, which is characteristic of Free Will,
Elohim the verb's relationship with humanity, as distinct from all othr living things on Earth, is like tht of a kid in middle school with an ant farm that he is trying to train to perform Stars and Stripes forever as a marching band at the half-time at the Old Miss0Alabama game,
Only, because of Free will, we had to invent everything connected with the aspiration,
Free Will is the mechanism by which we proceed to that capacity, and, with Apollo 11, we have invented the first musical instrument which will lead humankind across the very roof of the Universe to sound our barbaric yawp. The ability to think like an atheist and abstract Elohim the verb out of the materials we are working with and put Elohim the verb back into what our hands are working on in the Shaker formula, Hands to work, Herat to God And Free Will makes that possible,
The Book of Job is dealing with issues of Free Will, It is a farce Elohim the verb compose that makes God the Father the Buffoon, He is tricked, twice, by The Satin to let him beat up on Job is please his own vanity in regards to the integrity of Job's worship of The One, Job is beat up six times to prove that God the Father is AWESOM!, At the end of all that magnificent poetry, Job has been transformed into a quivering puddle of protoplasm and God the Father realizes he's been pranked by The Satin at Job's expense.
Fear not is the most repeated phrase in the Bible, When you come to know Elohim the verb, as Job and I do, you cannot unknow The One, This is the reason why my opinion is that eitehr Bart Ehrman's "Born Again" experience was a bogus confession to be part of the popular high school girls, or his claim of Apostasy is a business strategy. He was either lying about ever knowing The One or he's lying about not knowing The One to sell tickets.
The Meme of Jesus knocking at the door of your personal consciousness is absolutely accurate. You do need to make a conscious decision to expose yourself to all that a priori divine shit. The Fear of the Lord is real: Gram Parsons sings about it in Hickory Wind. But the Beginning of Wisdom is ot the end of Free Will, It can be the undisciplined Free Will of Nietzsche or it can be the high-schooled Free Will of George Marshall and Elizabeth II.
The Book of Job is Elohim' the verb's promise to sustain Free Will eternally and Jesus is atonement for allowing The Satin to torment Job. The value added is that the resurrection of Jesus validates the Jewish God Hypothesis and brings the Holy Spirit out of the closet and into the mix of the secular humanism of Pauline Theology and the servant leader ethic of the Italian Cohort.
Tomorrow is Easter. According to the solo scriptura narrative of the Neo-Nazi Jesus Freaks of the God Bless the USA Bible, if Jesus sees His shadow when He comes out of the tomb, there will be six more weeks of Born Again bullshit.

Actually, I'm a process theology guru, Unlike Whitehead, I am not in doubt regarding the existence of The One, And the leadership model of Jesus and the Army Ranger School describes process theology,
