Another brilliant video! The Aston Martin DBS appears in both 'Casino Royale' and 'Quantum of Solace'. The Aston Martin V8 Vantage appears in the 'The Living Daylights' and will also be seen in the soon to be released 'No Time to Die'. Other Astons to appear in the Franchise are the 1969 DBS and the V12 Vanquish. The link between Bond and the marque actually starts before the films were made. In the book Goldfinger, which Ian Fleming wrote in the 1950s, Bond drove a pool Aston Martin DB2 MK 3 (which Ian mistakenly called a DB3) to fit in with his cover as a wealthy Gentleman touring Europe. This car was fitted with an audible tracker (so Bond can keep out of sight of Auric Goldfingers Rolls Royce) as well as strengthened bumpers and a concealed cubbyhole for his gun. Alas no ejection seat.
Thanks Donald. This reminds me of trips to Oulton Park in the 80s and 90s, when my pals and I would watch cars of this calibre giving it the beans! Bugattis, Bentleys, ACs, Jags, three wheeler Morgans, huge Yank machines with engines that made the ground shake as they approached Deer Leap! Some Porsche, very few Ferraris, but lots of Ginettas,Lotus and Healeys. I saw a real XKSS in the car park next to a Lynx C-Type. One fella who used to park up by the oak tree on the apex of the first corner used to turn up in a beautiful green Aston Martin V8 Volante, or the month after he'd be in his golden Corniche. He reminds me of Uncle Monty! At one do, one of the VEV Aston Zagatos flipped. It came back past us on a flatbed. Every panel was toast. Watching the Zagato being recovered was funereal. I've been back more recently, and now we only get to see XR2s vs GTIs. I used to like meeting my mate Wavey Davey up there. I'd go in my Westfield SE, he'd drive his GT 6. Johnny would turn up in his TVR,and Mum and Dad in the XJ6. HAPPY DAYS!
So awesome. Love it. Great job with the audio and video on this, and putting trivia question on screen so we can enjoy a little extra time of looking and listening to such a beautiful car.
I wonder what the fate of the Aston would have been if Jaguar had given them an XKE for Bond to drive in Goldfinger? The XKE has become an icon all on its own, but I kind of doubt that the DB-5 would have achieved that level of cache' on its own merits, without the considerable push from Bond. (just my .02)
Another great video. I have a 12 and 8 cylinder Aston in my collection, but I have to admit the exhaust note of the inline 6 sounds the best. Hope to have the chance to ride in an early DB one of these days. Also Donald, your green tie, blue shirt and camel hair jacket combo looks awesome. Great match for the car. My guess on the question is a DBS and a Vantage V8. Since the Vantage is the high volume car for Aston, I am sure they would want to promote it. The DBS at the upper end goes with the Bond character
"Goldfinger" still holds up all these years later as an over-the-top 1960s icon. However, Mr. Bond drove a DB5 in the movie rather than a DB4. But they are all so beautiful, especially the one in the video, but our view of performance has changed a bit. In "Top Gear" a DB5 was the slowest car to ever go around their course when driven by a professional driver! The DBS V12 appeared in two James Bond films but the upcoming Bond film, "No Time to Die," will mark the second appearance of the regular DBS and the V8 Vantage, as well as the evergreen DB5!
@@rjdavies1982 This is interesting! I had to look this up and there is a story. Apparently it was a DB4 Series V that had been modified to become the DB5 prototype for the 1963 Earl's Court auto show and then used for the movie the year after so we are both right!
actually, the very first car used in the filming was a DB4 series 5 vantage, and by the time the film was released the DB5 was rin production so they promoted it.
Loved him in Donald Osborne: Licensed to Drive, Goldfender, The Horsepower is Not Enough, The Driving Headlights, Octanepussy, The Spy Who Loved Audi, On Her Majesty’s Secret Chauffeur Service, The Man With the Holden Van, Dr. Go, MoonRacer, Live and Let Drive, Daimlers are Forever, Camaro Never Dies, From Russia with Lada, A View to a Radiator Grill, For Car Guys Only, HoldenGuy, Carsino Royale, And You Only Shift Twice.
Iv often wonders what 007 would drive if he were an American agent. Iv narrowed it down to a Corvette, a 1957 Chevy, a Mustang fast back or a 60s Lincoln Continental.
Hi Donald . Personally, the only comparison between this and a Ferrari was the price ! The Aston was what it always was , quintessentially British . Seeing you driving this after a misty drizzly night on these narrow roads is about as close to being in England as you could wish ! Does Rhode Island have a statutory speed limit as you seemed to be driving in a very constrained fashion . My father, long gone , was a very heavy smoker and when the DB5 was first announced he said how much he wanted one . We , his 3 sons , added up how much he'd spent on cigarettes over the years and told him he could have bought one in cash !! Of course he said nonsense ! I think the Aston was £4500 , we had just paid £1500 for a 4 bedroom semi -detached house . Thanks Donald .
The Virage and the DB10 I believe was in the James Bond. The Virage is questionable, I remember the movie it had Timothy Dalton but I can't remember if that was a V8 Vantage or a Virage . In casino royal (I believe it was) it was the DB10 and it was a prototype just like the Z8 was in another bond movie. I had to edit , it took a moment to think about it , Aston Martin jumped from DB9 to 11, the DB10 was only made for the bond film
As a Brit I have never heard AM referred to as the British anything, it's simply an Aston Martin, perhaps it's just an expression used in the US. That DB4is stunning and in the best colour combination.
It's funny that Osborne compares the DB4 to the Cricklewood Bentley because I always thought them as being race cars for the street, big, fast and more than a little rough around the edges. Maybe its because I usually think in terms of the four cylinder cars. The DB4 thru DB6 made me think more of the early Derby Bentleys, which were fast but a lot more refined.
I just love that era of Aston Martin, Jaguar, and pretty much anything else made in Europe at the time. There are so many different rules and regulations that car designers have to follow now. We've lost the beauty in automotive design. Some try, but it's just not the same
In the 80s when I was a kid my Dad, who was around 25ish at the time had a DB4 Series 2 which we used as our family car everyday!
That's awesome!
One of the most beautiful cars of all time.
It makes me happy to see such a classic still being driven

This may be my new favorite channel! Brilliant! Thank you!
Thanks for sharing such a beautiful and great sounding Aston!

Hi there, just wanted to add that Bond actually drove a Series V DB4 - not actually a 5!

@@rjdavies1982 The DB4GT had the same headlight treatment as the DB5 although the latter had a longer wheelbase.
Another Awesome Ride , Thanks Donald

I'd read that somewhere. It was actually a 4 but, in the film, they referred to it as a 5.
Such a beautiful car. I can only hope that some day I will get to drive something even half as amazing as the DB
Never get tired of listening to Donald ...no matter the car

That is great sound very racy. You can tell handcrafter car from mass produced easily it's different feeling altogether.
If my car's engine sounded that good I'd never use the stereo.
How does a left hand drive Aston have a British license plate?
Classic!
leaks oil fer sure fer sure, & what are webers? heh. def a museum piece.
Goldfinger was a DB5
I;m restoring my series V Vantage now
WOOF !
Super GT category
Didn't even demonstrate the ejector seat....
Technically, they didn't "go to Aston Martin," they had to buy a car.
You could have made this video just the first seven seconds, it would still be legit. :D
