- I had my new MLD Trailstar Tarp to try out, I fancied a nice flat hill top, It was not to be, a storm came in and I had to find a pretty sheltered spot to pitch, I still suffered the wind, In the morning I noticed a so called bomb proof peg had failed and my Tarp was loose, these pegs are sold as, must have in your peg bag as they can be hammered in and can get you out of trouble, useless, I was to use these on my Scotland trip !!
I also review the excellent little pocket table by serotonin,
Honestly it’s a great little table which I will always have in my pack.

Nice one Adrian , cool little table that for the stove and your brews , nice tarp too but it pees me off that you still need to do your own seam sealing on tarps or tents when they charge so much 🤔🙄, ha little rant there 😝, great camp again mate thanks atb Deka 👌🏻
Hi Deka and thanks for watching
Glad you enjoyed it, I need a bit of practice with that tarp but it looks good, the table, well I was surprised it’s a magic little table,
Seam sealing a pain for sure but it does not take long
Cheers Adrian
Im liking that table. What a good idea. Im liking the apot aswell. Atb. Mark 👍
Hi and thanks for watching
Glad you like the location
Table is magic, so light yet strong
Cheers adrian
Great practice for Scotland my friend!
Hi and thanks for watching,
Certainly is, need strong tarp set up for an extended trip for sure
Cheers Adrian
Greetings from Glasgow. Just discovered your page. Glad my algorithm brought me here. Liked & subbed.
Hi and thanks for watching, welcome,
Glad you enjoyed the video,
Cheers Adrian
A brew with a view 👍 nice one Adrian, was up Wester and Easter Tor ihiking in November, cracking area, Northumberland’s blessed with fine views, love the videos mate, keep em coming
Hi and thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed it, the wind is normally bad up Easter/Wester for sure but the views are magic
Northumberland at its finest
Cheers Adrian
I was out on St Abbs on saturday night and I recorded between 50-60mph so tent bound too! Great vid as always 😊
Hi and thanks for watching, you will have been hilli bound so safe I presume, I prefer my tarps, can’t help what you like, apparently the trail star will do winds, trouble is is the wind does a180 the tarp would take off, so tarps are not as safe for sure, unless you repeg as the wind changes
Cheers Adrian
@northumberlandmountainhopper yeah wind whipped from ssw to sse very quickly! Nightmare in a tarp as I could see, not so bad in a tent 😀
You can't beat a bit of "tarp n' bivvy". Levelled up with the Trailstar to boot 😉👍
Hi and thanks for watching, bit of practice needed for this tarp but looks magic
Cheers Adrian
nice one again 😁👍
Hi and thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed it
Cheers Adrian

Another cracking vid Adrian, I haven't commented fir a while, I always watch though!.
Ahh that hill fort is my favourite hill too, love the kirk side of the cheviot.
Look forward to getting out on the hills soon, thanks for sharing
Hi and thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed it,
And that side is near the border so alls good
Cheers Adrian
Cool camp Adrian, atad bit of wind lol, trailstar tarp looks a sweet tarp,,that's what it's all about, trying your kit before a big trip, find out what works, and what dosent, good health and safe travels my friend, cheers craig
Hi Craig thanks for watching, glad you liked it,
I certainly need some practice with the new tarp,
Think I will finish the winter by camping more in the woods as the weather is calmer !
Cheers Adrian
Definitely a windy night out for you Adrian them tarps look great I've seen a few lad's using them Andy Beavers has a inner for his atvb Jimmy 😎😎👍👍
Hi Jimmy, thanks for watching,
Yes seem really good, a bit of practice needed with it, but certainly better in the wind,
Cheers Adrian
Look at it !
LOOK AT IT !
That small table looks dead handy.
Best wishes pal😁👍🏼
Hi and thanks for watching,
No wahey or look at it !!! In this video, too windy and unpleasant
Table is magic it really is
Cheers Adrian
That’s a lovely looking tarp
Hi Graham, thanks for watching,
It is
Cheers Adrian
By, that was a windy one Adrian. You can pitch the trailstar two ways with the pole either on an apex or a midpoint. Either way, peg the two points either side of your pole straight down to the ground to maintain the tension. You can of course tie a guy across to a pole so you have an unobstructed entrance. I'm dead impressed with my copy, will definitely have plenty of camps in it next year. Great video, thank you
Hi Phil, thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed it,
I was hoping for a easy time so I could practice with the tarp, it obviously has a few choices, the way I got it tight at the back was amazing for holding in the wind,
Definitely my hill tarp,
Cheers Adrian
Another cracking episode. Content is first class. Must get that table
Hi and thanks for watching,
Glad you liked it,
Honestly the table was magic for its size, just what I needed
Cheers Adrian
Enjoyed this one a lot. That tarp looks superb. I can strongly recommend “Big Sky Tube Stakes” (although they call them “Tube Steaks!”) as a lightweight but very strong peg option. Not cheap but well worth the investment.
Cheers, Roo
Hi and thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed it,
Tarp certainly good just a bit of practice needed
I will check the stakes out
Cheers Adrian
Hi checked the pegs out
Look good and not too dear at £14 for 4 but they want £14.99 postage from a uk warehouse, that’s Micky take, they still appear to have a top piece that must be glued in ? Even the odd Easton peg has the top come off !!
Cheers Adrian
Looks magnificent.
Hi and thanks for watching
The tarp really does the business I just need some practice
Cheers Adrian
Nice one Adrian, that wind looked a wild one 😮, trailstar is a great shelter mate, I’ve had one for a bit now, and love it, most of the time I pitch it having a point at the back with the MLD logo as my front door and pole height around 120 -125cm , then start at the back, tighten the sides then finish at the front and the whole thing becomes super taught, no flapping or noise under the tarp, if you watch Tony Hobbs channel he does a lot of trailstar instructional videos etc, great watch as always mate, oh and that table looks great for the xboil , atb Mick 👍
Hi mick, thanks for watching,
Glad you liked it,
I definitely need some practice with it but got the back great, then it wasn’t the weather to fiddle on !!
I want a nice wind free camp to play !!!!!
Cheers Adrian
Just to point out that he wasn't using the most stormworthy TrailStar pitch. He made the door with the corner between two panels, which is a better choice in calm weather when you want an airy pitch. The tarp is even stronger if you make the door with the mid-panel tie-out - for example the tie-out where they sew the MLD logo.
Hi and thanks for watching,
Yes it’s a learning curve with the new tarp for sure, I should have reconfigured it but I chose to stay out of the wind !
You and a few others have pointed out where to put the door
Cheers Adrian
@@northumberlandmountainhopper It's a perfectly valid pitch - it's just not the best option in a storm. Fortunately you chose a sensible sheltered spot, unlike the TH-camrs who head for the windiest pitches in search of drama and clicks.
@@tullochgorum6323keep watching I will improve with the trailstar
Love the table Adrian. Useful bit of kit. As for tarps i just love my dd superlight. Great vid as usual mate.
Hi and thanks for watching,
Glad you enjoyed it,
DD super light are great without doubt but this one is more wind resistant for my upcoming Scottish trip next year, not as versatile as a DD for sure as a large foot print, but when I pitch it correctly you can see how tight it goes
Cheers Adrian
Cool design tarp that
Hi and thanks for watching
It is a special design, mind should be good the price of MLD stuff,
Just a small knowledgeable company but good kit
Cheers Adrian
@northumberlandmountainhopper aye thank you friend
Hi Adrian. Nice video again. Shame about the pegs, ive a friend who swears by Easton pegs and ultralight sell those too. Hes a hilleberg fan so doesnt mess about with cheap stuff like me 😅. Id be happy double pegging with some aluminium y pegs.
Hi and thanks for watching,
Glad you enjoyed it,
I have been googling Easton pegs and there have been batches where the top comes off !
So it’s going to be one piece pegs,
Never had a problem with my MSR pegs the big cyclone are magic but 36gr each
I wanted to lighten up for my Scottish trip
Cheers Adrian
Great video, shame about the wind.
Hi and thanks for watching, glad you liked it, may have to stick to woods and forest for the winter unless I can get a true forcast
Cheers Adrian
Lovely wild camp. Do they do the table in different sizes?
Hi and thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed it,
Think it’s just the pocket size
You will have to check the link
Cheers Adrian
12 led,, magnetic strip lites.. motion activated,, off ali ex bout quid each.. great little things .them do bigger ones but the 12s are small liteweight an kick out a gd lite and its dimable too :) can pop em on ya hmk ridgeline too wi a cpl stretchy hairbands ,,saves fumbling for torch or buttons jus tuns on when ya move wek up .. Hi and thanks for watching, and your input, that’s a good idea for sure
Cheers Adrian
Great new tarp , those pegs are very disappointing !
Hi shaun thanks for watching, tarp stayed tight on the well pitched side, certainly up to Scotland,
The pegs !!!!!!!!
Cheers Adrian
Only another 3 weeks and it starts to get lighter (more hours of daylight) again….slowly but surely 👍
Hi and thanks for watching
Now that’s a very welcome comment, wahey,
Cheers Adrian
@ fantastic channel mate - keep up the good work- wheyyy heyyyy 😂👍
I’m unhappy with my Wechsel tent. Fortunately, it came with different pegs so at least it’s still usable. Probably a company to avoid for now.
With my Trailstar, I use titanium pegs - V channels for peaty ground and nails for stony ground. They weren’t cheap but the work reliably. I use 6g shepherd hooks on the intermediate pegging points. I carry 4 of the V channels, 4 of the titanium nails and 8 shepherd hooks. Whichever is gripping better go on the windward pegging points and on the long doorway guyline. I don’t use the intermediate pegging points on the door way and, as a result, I can really haul on the big guyline to get the doorway tight. Obviously, the back peg comes under pressure when I do this so it needs to be well seated.
I started carrying the two main types of peg because the Trailstar is so big that I was getting half of it on gravelly lawns next to streams and the rest on peat so I carry pegs which do well in both of those situations. It can be hard to squeeze a Trailstar in between rows of trees in plantations because of the size. However, my Trailstar has a hanging loop on the outside so can be used without a central pole in woods if there’s room between the trees. I didn’t notice whether your Trailstar had that loop but it probably does.
You probably know that pitching a corner up opens the Trailstar nicely for conditions which aren’t too bad. Very brave of you to get out in that weather. I didn’t!
Hi and thanks for watching, certainly a good tarp, I got the back nice and tight, just need a bit more practice, the MSR cyclone pegs are my go to for grass soft soil, heavy at 36gr each but I want some strong nails for hard ground, like you say a few of each, those pegs have put me off two part pegs, Easton ? A few fails the same if you search online so looking like titanium nails one piece hopefully, I have 10 gr hooks so maybe look for lighter ones,
Cheers Adrian
Surely the peak has to be lifted for a taut doorway . Dropping it would make it worse ? I think 🤔
I like the trail star , I might get one .
@@waxer00 hi and thanks for watching
You can lift the door yes, but you can also drop it as it has 5 equal panels so can make a tight pyramid, I just could not face chancing a repot h in the wind !!!
I will improve as it was my first use
Cheers Adrian
The door definitely needed lifting to get a decent taught pitch. For those conditions a mid oanal door would've given you much more protection. There's never any need for flapping and loose panels in a Trailstar. Nothing a bit of fettling wouldn't sort.
Looked an excellent camp though.
@@rbreiff73hi and thanks for watching, it was the first time use, I was really happy with the back, more practice needed, but it just wasn’t the weather to fiddle !
Cheers Adrian
@northumberlandmountainhopper It's a brilliant, reliable shelter. I'm sure you'll love it. I've had mine pitched on top of munros in winds you couldn't stand up in and it was fine. Atb
been looking at the ali express 40quid version.. anyone tried those?
Hi and thanks for watching,
Sorry I haven’t but on of the commenters has and I have seen a few reviews on you tube, just do a search
Cheers Adrian
Shame about the kit failure
Hi and thanks for watching, no excuse for those pegs, rubbish.
Torch I will work out the use
Cheers Adrian
Was it windy 🌬️
You only said wind 327times
Noce setup
Hi mick and thanks for watching, did you count lol,
Glad you liked it

What did ultralightoutdoors say ?
Hi and thanks for watching,
I have just emailed them details and a clip from the video, let’s see tomorrow
Cheers Adrian
I'm assuming you were camping on the English side of the wall, not that it matters??
Hi and thanks for watching
Correct it was out of the worst of the wind
Cheers Adrian
That tarp was well setup and did a decent job in the wind. Good camp Adrian!
Hi Dave thanks for watching, glad you liked it,
Seems a good bit of kit, bit of practice needed to get it all tight
Cheers Adrian
couldn't help notice your Berghaus paclite extrem.my mate Peter has one & the overpants & they've kept him dry in some horrendous conditions 👍 don't make them like that anymore.
Hi and thanks for watching,
Yes they are the original ones and would you believe I had them in 2005 !!!! I kid you not, never leak or fail, I also have the paclite trek from 2009 a bit longer but the tape is failing on that one, I always use them,
And I now have the new ones ready for Scotland but it seems different material now, fingers crossed
Cheers Adrian
@@northumberlandmountainhopper try not to put them in the washing machine mate.try to just wipe any dirt of with a clean damp cloth & you'll preserve the factory DWR treatment 👍
@@thegeordiefellwalker8878I have washed them a fair bit with Nikwax !!!
Nice tarp and tiny table…have fun stay safe.
Hi and thanks for watching,
Yes the potato looks great, more practice required,
Table magic honestly great bit off kit

Smashing bit of kit

Good video...but 26 quid for 6 pegs that are not what they say they are is not good...yep get on to them for a refund..take care mate
Hi and thanks for watching
Glad you enjoyed it
I can report the pegs are fully refunded
Cheers Adrian
26 quid fer 6 pegs ya daft .... better off w sum 8 inch nails off a diy store chuckles smh.... an if youd sorted flappy panels during nite none of em woulda come out...tiny table made me chukle too i got something similar other week not tested out yet .
Hi and thanks for watching
Pegs dear yes but light weight and strength come at a price, obviously these have now been refunded and I will find alternative pegs or just stick to the MSR ones which are good although heavy,
Yes I should have sorted the tarp out but the wind was that bad I chanced it, you live and learn
Cheers Adrian
