Made me so happy when Katherine found it and got so emotional, she seemed so happy and it was an amazing video. Beautiful photography and, as someone who's never shot anything in their life, an amazing shot.
Glad to hear that you were so involved in the hunt and loved the footage of everything! It's her first Tahr, Katherine's done a lot of hunting, but she uses a bow. High powered rifles are pretty new to her. But you're right, an amazing shot for sure! 🤙🤙

Thanks for showing me awesome the NZ country is. I was showing my 14yr old son this and saying we gotta get over and do it. Great shot shot Katherine - I could see she felt the bitter sweet of hunting - respect.
Hi Joe, Toronto, Canada here. I enjoy your videos. We have the great mountainous outdoors here in Canada as well with big game and helicopter fly-ins. Here in the Province of Ontario I have actually been lucky enough to encounter a mountain lion in the hinterland. Maybe it was my imagination about its size but my gosh that was a big cat! I was fortunately in a boat fishing for trout on a wild lake in the backwoods and this huge cat was in a clearing on the shore. It was standing beside an overturned 12 foot rowboat so I had a comparison for its size. As far as I know no one else in Ontario has claimed to see one outside of a zoo so I feel very privileged indeed. As a matter of information the locking knots you tied on Katherine's boot are called surgeons knots. This is because as you know the knot holds tight and doesn't loosen in order to keep blood leakage to a minimum while suturing. Considering where you go and what your outdoor adventures are you should learn to suture wounds and pack the relevant needle and threat in your medical kit. You don't need in-person instruction because there is at least one TH-cam instructional video, and probably more than one, on how to suture. Geez, I bet there is even an instructional TH-cam video on how to do an emergency appendectomy for that matter. As the fighter pilots used to say before going into combat 'good luck and good hunting!'
Great stuff! Nice Bull as well, big shout out to Katherine for a great shot as well. I miss hunting over there, your vlog takes me back, so thanks for that!
Thank you!! 😊😊😊 Joe really does a fantastic job of making you feel involved, hey! 😁 Hopefully you can get back over soon and get some great hunting in! 😊😊 -Kat

@@j.e.wilds-hunting Good memories? Yes and no. My first thar-hunting trip was a memorable trip for sure. It was July 1972, and four of us youths had a week off studies in CHCH and we tramped a long, riverbed tramp up to McCoy Hut in the Clyde and shot plenty of thar there and saw plenty of chamois. Each night was around -18 C inside the hut. Coldest trip I have ever done. Little sleep was had. Avalanches were thundering down daily in the upper reaches, and two other young hunters we met there were hit and killed by one of those avalanches a few days after we'd chatted to them. It's a hard world in those mountains if you make a mistake at the wrong time. No second chances for some poor hunters. Good hunting, safe hunting. In those days there was no GPS, no cell phones, no locator beacons, no voice mail, and helicopters were not used by recreational hunters to fly them into hunting blocks. There were fewer animals about due to commercial helicopter meat-recovery operations and to the high price paid for wild meat by game meat companies in NZ. We hunted the Clyde during summer 1973 and hauled all our venison carcasses out on our backs and sold them in CHCH because we were poor university students and those deer carcasses fetched big money, tax-free for us. We sold the thar and chamois carcasses too which we shot that year, 1973, there in the Rangitata Valley. Now when I tramp in those mountains I see more animals than in the 70s.
Couldn't have been much better eh? It was obvious that you were stoked to do this but when you guys got there, you could plainly see that it was also very upsetting for you Kat, I'm mostly an angler, never been on a hunt, I don't think I could do it myself.
