I was born China in my 40s. I watched my mom making wine when I was little. It is very similar and watching your videos brings back lots of memory. When Covid 19 virus is over, I got to go home visiting my old mom who currently lives in Jingxi, China.
Like everybody, I love watching Penji and Dawang and her large extended family but I have also come to really love the huge, worldwide extended family of her fans who come together with every new video and share their often very touching and revealing comments. Unlike many other channel's comments, which often degrade into unpleasant and rude personal attacks, This channel is with only a few exceptions, civil, collegial , and often warmly supportive of one another. We all enjoy the sharing of the wonder of the world Penji has opened to us. In all the turmoil of this very difficult year, this vast company, who come together for the simple reason that these videos touch us all, gives me hope for all of our future.

In distillation methanol, which is poisonous and if ingested can cause blindness and death, comes off first, before the ethanol. This is why they discard the liquid that comes off first.
Fun fact: distillation is commonly used to separate chemicals in chemistry. We always throw out the first bit that comes out. It is assumed to contain low boiling point impurities.

At least when they were having dinner she mentioned that the wine she was serving is 4 years old so it is definitely their last batch of wine! It really inspires me to brew my own wine on a continuous batch rotation like this!

How is everything so pretty? The bowls and jars, the scenery, the brewer's place was amazing! The fuzzy faced cows (water buffalo?)...fuzzy whiskery faces...just so pretty. I "bell" on the bovine's neck was way cool too.
I think that it is such a different reality to what we are used to in the West! Everyone are so much more in touch with nature and the Earth and make things from scratch whereas we just go to a store to get everything we need. I feel like we are all inherently longing for that kind of lifestyle but at least in North America, it is nearly impossible to do that while still being part of society as we know it!
This is a culture and traditional way of life that has roots thousands of years old. Rural China has not lost respect for and connection to their past. Human beings are happiest when living in harmony with Nature, and we can see that here, with these families. It’s beautiful to see.
