the main character is supposed to be the underdog right, and its portrayed as such usually, but I didn't know about this until much later and it kinda pisses me off, they used the largest fucking submarine of ww2 as the 'underdog' and its also a fucking aircraft carrier, they never did anything with that concept, never even mentioned it. the I-400 series was a trio of submersible aircraft carriers able to carry 2 attack craft each, the massive domes on the front and back of the tower are the doors
yeah as cedric said, aircraft cant be fitted with fog technology, klein field included. the manga touched up on it but to be more specific, where the anime/manga starts, the fog had already attacked several times prior. and they used their carriers in those initial attacks and got their asses handed to them by modern aircraft squadrons. because aircraft cant be equipped with fog technology (i assume for being too small), the fog literally only had normal wwii aircraft at their disposal. so none of vessels equipped for using aircraft used them afterwards because it was pointless.

I-400 also was stealth sub and biggest non-nuclear submarine ever builded. And also can carry bio weaphon.

Well in the manga they explain that aircraft can't fit the forcefield of the ships so they where all taken down before the start of the series
