    I'm looking to jump in as an owner operator in this market. I have friends leased onto a company their still rolling now, granted their not doing as well as a couple of years ago. When I got in touch with them, they said R you sure you want to do this. After going over my business plan, all of them said I wish I would have consulted you before I jumped in. It's all in your planning. It's going to be a couple of months before I jump in. I've already been in contact with manufacturers about hauling their loads. The response has been great. They know the brokers are charging high prices still but not passing the extra to the drivers, their keeping it for themselves. Some of the greatest fortunes have been made in down markets. The reason is because they planned. I will have dedicated runs with the manufacturer's and relationships with brokers from the start. It's all in the planning. I could be sitting around as I put corporation together, getting my Dot/Mc, insurance, and everything else, but I'm not. I'm doing the work needed to cut my risk. And as I'm looking for that newer model truck one with a little warranty left on it (100,000 miles or less), I'm also watching the prices drop. Keep the faith, boys, and let's stop hauling for pennies on the dollar. And if you have to take loads that don't pay, you didn't plan. You'll just go out of business a little slower. But you will go out of business. Rest assured.

    Playing devil advocate here: You're telling people not to be owner operators while you're being an owner operator, isn't it kind of a contradiction

      I said not to be an owner operator unless you had connections or a carrier that has dedicated freight..... Anyone jumping into this thinking they're going to make it running plain Jane spot market freight right now is pretty increasing their risk tremendously for failure especially if they're brand new to the industry.

      I'm pretty sure they're going to put you in the Hampton inn hotel there's plenty of truck parking behind it and there is an awesome restaurant/bar right across from the hotel called the Crosswoods

      Also the little restaurant in the truck stop is really good too.

    Question what does it cost you per mile to run your truck the bottomline?

    • @Jackknife-TV
      @Jackknife-TV  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My old truck back when I was running at a percentage carrier not including the percentage when fuel was high.. depending on mileage $1.32 to 1.48 that does not include paying myself or like I said carriers percentage..

      I got in late in the game I was too afraid to leave while I was at it the utility pole yard.... But it kept getting worse there I had to leave I couldn't take it anymore....
      I jumped into the game in August of 2021 and by April of 2022 the market took a s*** I was running reefer at the time and was stuck on Long Island with like 20 loads and a hundred miles.....
      I switched back over to flatbed and was doing pretty good until about July and then flatbed was taking a s*** too then it started to get ridiculous I was having to deadhead out to Pittsburgh because they're just simply weren't any loads on the board and what was there paid like $1 75 a mile for flatbed ...
      Eventually the breakdown started to get to me and I just simply couldn't keep up fast enough then I made the switch to dedicated freight and was starting to make good money but my motor blew at like the worst possible time I was hanging on by a thread and just starting to dig myself out I should have made the move sooner to dedicate freight but I simply couldn't find the right company until I came across the one I'm with now

    But where it don't match what you are saying is your telling everyone not to be something in this market yet u go and buy a new truck that doesn't look right bro 😉

    • @Jackknife-TV
      @Jackknife-TV  ปีที่แล้ว

      I run dedicated freight only I no longer run the spot market or I would have never even entertain the idea..... This was the only realistic way to dig myself out of a hole that I got myself into because of a lot of bad luck and unwillingness to change I stayed on the spot market way too long and should have jumped out sooner I thought it was going to come back....
      There would be no way in hell if was at a company job right now or was an owner operator at a low paying dedicated position that I would even think about jumping into the spot market or getting my own authority unless I had connections already set up for dedicated freight.

      I did not say nobody should be an owner operator I said you should not be an owner operator in this market unless you have contacts or no people to secure freight.....
      If you're going to jump into the spot market with no experience right now you're pretty much increasing your risk for failure...
      In my opinion unless you have experience in the industry can secure a dedicated customer or a carrier with spot on dedicated customers it's not worth it to run the spot market ....... All it would take is a little bit of bad luck and a few bad days or weeks and you pretty much wasted your money and time.
