They're in their own group (genus Dipodomys). They're rodents though, so they're at least relatively closely related to rats.
Gophers, I think.
They are called the kangaroo rat because they can jump 9 ft. Straight up in the air to avoid predators like snakes.
@@VanellikaB hahaha no way man, that's way too high. I'm 5'5" and if i saw a rat jump twice my height come flying at me, I'd freak. I think it leaps 9ft forward, not straight up
