    Scrub it with a baby toothbrush (they are smaller to get into the tight areas) and spray with alcohol and leave to dry.

    Awesome! Totes changed my life. Was ready to chuck mine in the trash cuz kept breaking me out like BAD. I've been thru bunches of brush heads cuz they all seemed too rough, but I tried using distilled water instead of tap, and omg what a diff! No more red skin or bumps! Clarisonic totes owes u a job or commission for all the devices u've saved from getting trashed!haha

    Use vinegar to remove the calcium buildup. It happens literally everywhere like diffusers, coffee makers like keurigs and many other things. Its really easy to get rid of also rubbing alcohol works

    Thank you for this video. I bought the Ma Fit about 2 years after my Mia 2 died. It hasn’t been holding a charge. I was thinking of replacing it with the new Mia, but after realizing how mold has been trapped in my current one, even after frequently cleaning it, I started rethinking whether I want to go with Clarisonic. After researching, I’m thinking going with an anti microbial cleansing brush like Fureo or PMD.

  • @dindog22
    @dindog22 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I bought one of the OG Clarisonics when they first came out. I've had it 11 or 12 years now and the battery is starting to not hold a charge. I saw a pretty good deal on Cyber Monday for a Mia Smart so I decided to splurge. The first thing I noticed about the new style ones is that the brush head has some sort of indicator on the back that's covered in foil. I'm not sure if it's some sort of chip or what to try to make you buy new brush heads more often. I'm kind of wishing I went with one of the dumb Mias instead of the smart one.

    That's not pink mold, it's hard water stains from the tap. Mine gets like that too but i take the white ring off and use a childrens toothbrush and scrub the poo out of it with soap and then i also do it with alcohol. Now actual mold, i have noticed in the crack on the side of my clarisonic. I've had mine for 5 years and have never left it in my shower. I have also never had a charging issue but then again i have the plus version and it has a docking station, so i just set it on the dock at the end of every use.

    it's not that bad that you have to charge it once a week. i've had mine over a year and haven't had any problems. secondly, if you're having mold issues, it's because you're not cleaning it. and what you have isn't even mold, it's calcium deposits. but bottom line, don't be gross. clean your equipment.

    • @ColleenCaseyVlogs
      @ColleenCaseyVlogs  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for being so KIND about it... You sound as if I've personally offended you or something. Good for you that you've had no problems. Your experience is not everyone's experience, however. 1.5-2 years in and you have to charge every day or two, so yeah, battery life becomes an issue. My point about cleaning it was more that the company and sales reps don't stress that importance, which means a lot of people don't think about it.

    despite what they say in Clarisonic's manual,
    In my opinion, exfoliate your skin two times a day (even mildly) is a crazy thing to do.
    the skin has to have time to recover the natural oils to stay healthy.
    Definitely does not seem a good idea to clean the face with Clarisonic and then put on makeup, clogging the pores all over again, and then having to make an even heavier cleaning at night to remove all the makeup used.
    Our skin is a living thing and needs to breathe and rest just as we do.

    • @ColleenCaseyVlogs
      @ColleenCaseyVlogs  9 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Tiago Motta You're right. I do like to skip days here and there (I also don't wear a full face of makeup every day). I mainly like it at night after having had makeup on, because the Clarisonic always seems to find more!

    • @tiagomotta8720
      @tiagomotta8720 9 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      ***** Yeah!! i think this is the right way to use it. Once a day, at night is perfect, this way your skin get through the night breathing well.
      I use mine just 3 times per week and it's great for my skin.
      xoxo...have a great weekend!

    • @ingainge3146
      @ingainge3146 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Would you suggest getting Clarisonic?:)

    • @tiagomotta8720
      @tiagomotta8720 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Grace Jones I think shaving everyday is crazy, at least here in Brazil, men shave just twice a week. I never use razors, i work the trimmer on my facial hair and that's enough for me, but i guess men are getting clever about facial hair cos each day i see more and more men who don't shave at all, they're just growing a beautiful and stylish beard.
      About make up, i fear the future for those women who don't leave the house without make up on. I've been noticing more and more young women of 20/25 with lines and even wrinkles and that's just the beginning, cos as you said, the formula of these products bring really bad stuff for our health.

    • @tiagomotta8720
      @tiagomotta8720 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      ***** Yes. Clarisonic can be a good ally to keep your skin clean, but it has to be used with caution cos i've seen people who got crazy with it (i mean, using clarisonic 3 times per day) and got the skin bruised and brittle.
      the most important thing about skin products and devices is that we have to know our skin very well so we can identify what is doing good and what is not.

  • @rachelrosen5501
    @rachelrosen5501 8 ปีที่แล้ว +50

    Ok, no. The Clarisonic does NOT "pull" matter from your skin. Only things that cause cell turnover are actives, BHA AHA and RA. If the Clarisonic is causing you to break out it's not for you!

    • @idou
      @idou 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      +Replicant Rachel That is not true. Do your research. Many have broken out at first, but then it clears up and they say their skin is better than ever, and no breakouts. If you're still breaking out after a while using it, then it may be the cleanser, the water or the brushhead that is too harsh. Many ways to make the clarisonic work.

    • @veekay1693
      @veekay1693 8 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      +Rachel Rosen  It is the brush head type that can cause breakouts. If the brush head is not the right type for one's skin type, it will over-exfoliate, which leads to the skin produce more sebum to compensate, which results in breakouts. Use the cashmere or delicate brush heads, and you should have no problem. ~Vee Kay, Licensed Esthetician

    • @wwheresyou
      @wwheresyou 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      +ttlovesyou You do have a point. I remember watching Wayne Goss (makeup artist) and he got the same problem when he was using one particular brush head, I can't remember which one. His dermatologist told him the same thing you're saying..it doesn't get worse then get better...so we went back to using his original brush head and never had a problem again.

    • @parisrousseau9561
      @parisrousseau9561 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wayne's skin issue was with the deep pore brush. I was thinking of ordering the deep pore brush last night, remembered watching his video ages ago. So I watched it again, I'm sticking with the sensitive brush head.

    • @Joy-qs6vc
      @Joy-qs6vc 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not sure what dermatologist you are going to, but your skin does purge. I've been on accutane 3x each time my skin got worse before it got better because it "purged" Clarisonic does the same thing brings all the dirt up to the surface of your skin

    The pink mold as you call it is NOT calcified deposits. Do people read? It's a bacterium called Serratica Marcesens. It's in most water, and is not something you can prevent with water filters and such, the only thing one can do is have a tungsten rod installed in the hot water tank. I

    • @ColleenCaseyVlogs
      @ColleenCaseyVlogs  8 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      +Replicant Rachel Thanks for this comment. For some reason I'm only seeing it now. I've gotten many, many comments telling me what it is or isn't. Serratica Marcesens was casually called "pink mold" in a lot of what I read online before making this video, and it seemed a likely culprit. Whatever it is, it's gross and I don't like it in my Clarisonic! I wish people would focus on THAT more than telling me I'm wrong! lol

    Leaving it out to dry overnight with the brush head off should be plenty to dry it out and keep it sanitary. I'm sure that it's just calcified water deposits. You could try soaking just that part of it in vinegar for about 20 minutes, that should clear it out. Vinegar is EXCELLENT for hard water deposits.

      BlessedEternally1 Thanks for bringing this up. I've added an annotation saying that this is a possibility. Whatever was in my Clarisonic, the point still stands that the device needs to be cleaned out, because mold is certainly still a risk when the device isn't taken care of properly!

    Thank you for this though. You are right, a lot of owners do not mention the possible mold issue. If you take good care of the Clarisonic, it will last for a while, but ultimately, you will need to replace it at some point, the battery does not last forever, sadly. You would think that with all this technology, they could make something that could last, but I guess for 100-200 bucks, and 3 years worth of life, that is not too bad.

    I purchased this item, actually the profile, a month ago and I love it. Breakouts have to do with what type of cleanser your using and what types of creams/serums you use. Also, you didn't mention if you switch out the brush heads, they are supposed to be replaced every three months if you use it daily. I use it once a day and I would think more than that would probably dry out or irritate the skin, depends on your skin I guess. I would have thought it was obvious that anything you use that gets wet would need to be dried off. I dry mine off after using it. I don't think these things were advertised as mold resistance, like anything else, if you don't clean it you will have issues with it.

    I'm looking into buying a Clarisonic or Forneo Luna, and hands down no comparison, I'll probably purchase the Clarisonic, it seems to deep clean your face with brush bristles against rubbing something that's I don't know what type of fibre, soft rubber? against your face. What you're mentioning in your video about the mold, it's logical, you have to clean your Clarisonic. For the price you're paying for it, you shouldn't be leaving it lying in the Shower wet, it's easy, take off the brush, clean it and air dry it - it's like cleaning your cosmetic brushes, I clean them almost after every usage.

    I hadn't considered that deep cleaning with my terrible water would be bad. Thank you for bringing that to my attention. I haven't really noticed any problems with my skin though, as I always seem to have acne but then I always have been showering at this same house. And that same pink bacteria grows in my shower and sinks as well. I used to think it was mold too but it's actually not and you can look it up on Google and there will be some University papers and some scientific papers on it. Basically I use rubbing alcohol in mine but on the one occasion that I did have that pink bacteria, I ended up throwing out my brush head and putting bleach into the base of my Clarisonic. Never again have I left the brush head on after using it. I wash it out every time while I'm still in the shower and wash the brush head as well and sit on the side of the shower to dry.

    Just spray it with Hydrogen Peroxide after using. The regular strength is 3% and comes in those ugly brown bottles from the drugstore / supermarket. You can spray it on anything (it's great for your toothbrush). You need to keep it in the brown bottle, though, as sunlight will turn it back into water.

    Please do not waste your money on purchasing any Clarisonic
    product as the product designs are subpar. The
    company uses cheap rechargeable batteries that will cease to hold a charge in a
    little as two years. It appears they expect you to purchase a new device at
    234.33 every two years as they know
    and accept the fact that the product will cease to operate. They have discontinued
    the Plus model which was one their premier models
    without as much a single word so if you purchased the body accessories which I have
    and your device fails which it will the accessories are rendered useless. Even
    if one chose to buy another unit, there is no way to use them. I have had three devices in 5 years all of which stopped charging long before the 5-year lifespan.
    I have never dropped any of the devices and have always washed the units after every
    use.
    Please boycott them until
    they figure out a solution to their design problems and give replacements to
    all the consumers who were ripped off by this company. We, consumers, need to
    send a message letting all these corporations know, we do not approve of corporate
    greed.

    If you happen to own a Sonic Care toothbrush, whatever that nastiness is that builds up, needs to be watched for as well on the toothbrush. I would just toss mine back in the drawer and didn't think about it until I was traveling one weekend. I took the brush head off for packing and what I found growing under there was disgusting! Granted, you shouldn't be putting that part of the brush in your mouth, but it comes close when cleaning back teeth!
    It's easy to clean using a regular toothbrush...keep in mind that without a source of moisture, mold can't grow. So get in the habit of removing the brush head after each use and you can avoid ever experiencing this issue.

    I have the smart profile Clarisonic, I use mine twice a day and always remove my brush head after each use and dry the back of the brush head, I dry the bristles of all the excess water and Then i dry my device of all excess water.... and then I let it air dry in a large make up bag with the zip half open for air circulation, guess what.. I still get some of that pink hard water residue. It’s annoying. If only their was a way to take off the white ring to be able to thoroughly clean under it and then put it back on.
    I do this twice a day... because I use the Clarisonic twice a day.

    That pink mold is called Serratia Marcesans and it LOVES to feed on soap scum. I've seen this grow in the guest shower where it wasn't used often, but also wasn't cleaned as often. How is 5 or 6 hours of battery bad? Just keep it on charge when you are not using it
    Did you try the sensitive skin brush for clarisonic? I heard Clinique has one for sensitive skin. No one puts their clarisonic in the shower. Wash your face before or after you shower. The machine is waterproof the brush has moisture which breeds bacteria and mould. You should deep clean your shower and don't keep a lot of products in the shower. This review is telling me you didn't follow the instructions. I hope you don't feel insulted but it's not right to give an unfair review I'm sure once your bathroom is deep cleaned,there are less things inside your shower that keep moisture inside after you are done showering, and you switch to a sensitive brush and not the standard for normal skin brush that comes with it. you will notice e huge decrease of problems with it and your skin. . If you wear makeup, take it off as soon as you are done doing what you had the makeup on for ex parties work, errands etc. Use moisturizing, no water needed face cleansing / toning/ moisturizer 3 in one products along with oil to remove makeup and makeup residue. After makeup removal. implement argan oil in your skin care routine ( it soaks into the skin automatically, and is suitable for daytime as moistiriser/skin regenerating oil), or cold pressed extra virgin olive oil (if you have severely dry skin- only at night or for makeup removal). Use jojoba oil for an antibacterial treatment if the bumps are from bacteria or clogged pores from the mould on the brush you used and as a barrier moisturizer if you have acne too, or just in the hard bumps ( it's technically a wax and not an actual oil, so it may not provide a lo of moisture that skin into the skin, and as a barrier to protect and treat skin. It is a natural antibacterial treatment with a bit of moisture. Clean your brush with tea treatment oil to get rid of the mould. After you can re-intergratw your clarisonic with a sensible skin brush slowly until you reach the ability to use it more regularly. I hope some or all of what I wrote is helpful. Once again this has no hate. I get painful irritation bumps and hives and they scarred my face badly.

      @ColleenCaseyVlogs  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +SONIA SOHI Thanks for this long and thoughtful comment. To respond...
      Battery life: 5 or 6 hours of battery isn't objectively "bad," but it can pose a problem for some people. For example, if someone travels a lot, it's a drag to have to worry about the charger all the time. Some people also just find it annoying -- like if your phone suddenly could only get through a half day, it's not "bad" battery life, but it adds extra thought to what used to be carefree.
      "No one puts their Clarisonic in the shower" - I don't think THAT'S a fair statement to make. You can't speak for the thousands of people who own a Clarisonic. Many people leave it in the shower. I've seen TH-camrs/online reviewers take photos or video showing their Clarisonic in the shower, or they say something like "I always just leave mine in the shower, it's so convenient!" When something is waterproof, and you likely use it while you shower, there are bound to be people who just leave it there.
      Deep cleaning and me not following the instructions - Nowhere in the documentation does it say to not leave the device in the shower, deep clean the bathroom, etc. It says to remove the brush head and clean the brush and device weekly. It doesn't talk about letting it dry fully to prevent bacteria. There isn't much about preventing bacteria at all. Which was my problem. It's not insulting at all that you want a fair review. It's not cool that you'd think I'd make a video without "following the instructions," especially if you yourself don't have a full understanding of those instructions, either. Also, the brush head that comes with the device IS a sensitive brush head, not normal.
      Skincare instructions you included - those are helpful and work for some people. It might not work for everyone. I'd try to talk about your regimen as tips for others, rather than instructions that one must follow.
      I really appreciate that you took care to emphasize that your criticisms come from a place of helping me and my viewers, and not hate. Truly! That's why I took the time to give this response. No hate on this side, either. This was one of my first videos, so I know I probably could have phrased things better, etc. Thanks again!

    I have purchased clarisonics at least twice at full price, and both of them eventually just stopped charging at all. It's still been under warrantee, so I have been able to switch them out for new ones, but they've still died about a year or 15 months later. They all die the same way. I plug them in to charge and it makes the original hook-up "beep-beep-beep" and then keeps beeping the whole time it's connected to the charger. But doesn't turn on again. I've also caught them turning themselves on and running on their own. I'm sure that doesn't help the battery. Given how expensive they are, I would expect them to last longer than that. I do love the product but seriously... ugh... so wasteful. I am curious if anyone else has had this problem, considering I have now had FOUR of them die in the exact same way.

      Nikki Calnin kind of late on the reply lol, but I have both and the vanity planet brush is nice, but it’s a simple brush that uses a simple spin move. Good for basic cleaning, but take it easy if you have sensitive skin. Good if you’re starting out with figuring out a skin care regimen
      Clarisonic however uses a unique technology that is patented. Instead of just spinning the entire brush which can be harsh, it stays still aside from the interior bristles that move in a special pattern at a frequency that actually massages the skin at a cellular level which gently pushes the impurities out of your skin.

    About the water quality... What can you do if the water is potable, obviously, but maybe harsher? It's probably the only variable you can't control, especially if you're renting. I don't think putting a water purifier on the faucet would help?

    • @ColleenCaseyVlogs
      @ColleenCaseyVlogs  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +twiggyjali You know, that's a great question. I'm not an expert on this, so I'm not going to give a definitive yes or no on the water purifier (any experts out there to chime in??). It could be worth a try. If all else fails, I'd suggest purchasing purified water to use, or praying that your skin can somehow adapt to the water you have in the tap. Again, I have no idea what I'm talking about!
