I used to have a small can of Copper Sulfate that was given to me. 25 years ago before all the products came out for your septic tank I would open up the 'Clean out' tube to my septic system once a year and put a tablespoon of Copper Sulfate in it. Due to the huge amounts of Oak trees in my back yard I didn't want my septic system to develop roots so by doing that I never had a problem. Of course nowadays most houses are on city sewage and water which mine now is too. Enjoyed the video my friend and as always I enjoyed stopping by.
That is what I have heard, I was going to try melt the rim, but it would not fit into the melting pot, glad that it didn't, I may cut a small piece off and see what it does with some fire
you are welcome Roger, trying to find items to do videos on, not getting many calls on my add, and playing nurse made for the wife this week, she had Cederick surgery on her right eye and dr. told her not to bend over. so I have been helping her around the house and playing taxi driver for the family
The motorcycle rim may have been a badly mixed batch of aluminum-magnesium alloy. Many of the GM alloy rims were like this, and the corrosion that resulted showed right where the alloy was defective.
I bought some copper sulfate and it clearly says to NOT get it on your skin. You are spraying it all over your hands. Maybe you should heed the warning as we don't want to lose OKIE. Thanks for all the info.
Thank you for saying that . He can disregard his safety but should have given all the information so others can choose themselves if they want to wear ppe . Personally, I think he should edit this or take it down for the greater good of the very same people he's saying he's helping by making this video. But thanks for the free lesson on how to poison myself while scraping bub.😅 I think I'll skip your next one . Have me grinding stuff with a tie on next .😅😅😅😂
Curious if the yards pay different prices,I know I turn in "aluminum" that's zinc or magnesium, but it goes right with the aluminum because they don't have a price for the others.Have you gotten a different price or is that what you do too?
I think the price is about the same, I took a whole truck load in one time and had to separate some of it but they gave me one price. after a year of separating I may have a bucket full of the zinc, most is aluminum
Thanks. I'm a welder and many times I can't weld "aluminum" rims, now I know how to test them. Very good info.
you are welcome, this info helped me to sort my scrap better

That should help a lot of new scrappers if there yards take different types of cast and or aluminum thanks for sharing this six stars brother
yes it will, and I get guys that saw me talk about this and ask what the stuff was that I use,
I belive this is the 1st video I've seen on this, thanks for the info very informative and helpful #happyscrapping
Have you ever burnt magnesium it is what puts the spark in sparklers don't try to put out with water makes it burn more intense
That is what I have heard, I was going to try melt the rim, but it would not fit into the melting pot, glad that it didn't, I may cut a small piece off and see what it does with some fire
Interesting, do U put water in the bottle? Cheers Graham

Great informational video.

yeah, it could have been,
Thanks for the tip
I recently noticed that Zinc has a nice scrap price to it. Good enough to identify and separate.
I will have to call the yard that I use and see how they pay,
Great info
If you take some grindings of that magnesium, it’s flammable and burns a long time great for starting fires
I will have to see if I can get some grindings and put them in a tin can for fire starter, just in case of a SHTF ever happens
So the first test piece was zinc?
Good vid there okie when I leave the Dr office I am gonna go get me some
a bottle will last a long time,

I have a good protective layer of oil and dirt on my hands, lol. Thanks for stopping by
