I lived close by in the suburbs during that time as a small boy; Miami was a much more beautiful place back then. I can still remember going for a drive in my father's red GTO convertible and seeing that big Coppertone billboard.

I dint exist in that time yet. But i know those days were fun. Not like know" here in miami you can't even park a car in the beachs sand. I remember my dad use to park his car all the way in the sand, parking lots dint exist in the beach. Life is bouring now, everything is law and ticket

You would hate it now. Locals are unwelcomed and they go out of their way to make you feel that way. There is not a single week end that they don't have some thing going on that makes going to the beach impossible. And if you think parking was good then, how about $40 per day on a cheap spot... There are so many russians now that it should be renamed Moscow Beach. Too bad, it'll be under water in a few years due to global warming.

Florida way back in the early 70s was a great place to live. Life was simple then and the locals could still go to and enjoy Miami Beach.

The day they tore down the beautiful old pink Roney Plaza Hotel on Miami Beach was the beginning of the end.

And where The Castaways once stood is now a beautiful concrete viaduct! Progress is great.

I live here and have heard the opposite. Miami was a paradise city in the 50s and most of the 60s. Miami was 80 some percent white back then, now its less than 17. Ive talked to some old timers who live up in broward now and they show me picture from back then, what a nice city. Most say that dade county went to hell towards the end of the 70s and in the 80s following the Mariel boatlift and worthless immigration enforcement, it all went to hell in a hand basket real fast.

I grew up in Miami in the 1970s. Was third generation and family had been there since 1920s. City went to hell with the crap immigration policies coupled with high crime in 1980s. The police were corrupt along with everything else.

Yes in part . But what really went to hell was our youth. No policing or inmigration policies can help with that, unfortunately....

Note in the first few seconds at :02 as the young ladies run across the street briefly you can see "Sinclair" over the gas station repair bays.

Lived in South Beach '66-'70, Piccolo's restaurant, south beach park, the pier and seniors sitting in front of the hotels on Ocean ave. Ahhh great memories. Anyone go to South Beach elementary?

That was back when gasoline was around .45 cents per gallon! I remember when it hit .70 cents a gallon saying to myself how "I wasn't gonna be able to afford to buy gas if it goes any higher".
    I miss the old Miami . . .
