Welcome to Hawaii… Part 4! I wish we could say that our final adventure for our “50 States in a Year” series went exactly as planned and was everything we dreamed it would be, but quite frankly… Nothing went as planned and it was far from what we had dreamed it would be. Due to torrential rains, a lot of what we had planned was closed, canceled, or not possible. That said, we knew that “the show must go on”, so we picked up our cameras and (attempted to pick up) our spirits and documented our day… the good, the bad, and the ugly. Spoiler alert… It was mostly the latter of the two! Lol… We were able to find the silver lining after a little pity partying and ended our day on a positive note in gratitude for the incredible memories that we made throughout our “50 States in a Year” journey. Aloha from Maui October 2023. I am so glad you got to experience Lahaina. We are still crying on the beach as we are now feeling defeat. Thank you for sharing your videos they are wonderful. I’ve been here 33 years and have experienced it all. I long for all the untarnished sunlit care free days pre 8/8/23. All of our hearts are broken. I hope some day you return to this beautiful place and enjoy the Hawaii we all knew and loved.

Hey guys!! First and foremost, congratulations on visiting all 50 states this past year. I know it didn’t end the way you wanted it to, but this might’ve been a blessing in disguise. Life throws us challenges and adversity and reminds us that not everything goes as planned. And these are the things that makes us stronger and prepares us for the road ahead. I’m so proud of you guys for everything you’ve accomplished this past year and I know the future holds blue skies and brightest days for both of you. I’m so sorry you guys didn’t get to do all the things you wanted to (especially the luau) but this just gives you the encouragement to get back to Hawaii and check those things off your list. And since Cheri and I want to go back the too, who knows, we might bump into each other over a plate of roasted pig, mac salad and a Mai Tai. Hope you guys are well and staying safe. I just have to say that my wife and I love your videos. We moved away from family & friends in Missouri when I got a new job in South Carolina. It was hard to be away from our loved ones, but we wanted to explore this new part of the US. We discovered you’re Greenville, SC video and immediately thought you guys were so much fun and we had to watch all the rest of your 50 states videos. You have definitely inspired us to explore new places we didn’t even have on our radar. Thank you for sharing this journey with all the ups & downs. Never apologise for the weather. I just discovered your guys' videos today and have literally been binge watching. Your enthusiam and energy, both individually and as a couple, shines through in every single one. I'm really sorry you didn't get to have the Maui experience you hoped for. I was lucky enough to have the opposite experience (my wife and I went in June which helped), but I've been unlucky on several holidays throughout my life. Look at it this way, you now have a really good reason to go back (in summer ;-)) and do all the things you never got to do the first time.
I'm from Ireland originally and on our trip home over this coming Christmas I'm taking my wife on the Ring of Kerry for the first time, I'm sure it's going to piss down on top of us the entire time, while you guys got to enjoy it all in glorious sunshine!

Yea, it was a wild one for sure! And not in a good way! Lol… But for the most part, our time in Hawaii was good (Oahu was good to us). We’ll definitely have to take a redemption trip to Maui though! Lol… Thanks man! We really appreciate it!😊
Wife and I have spent the past month watching your videos and truly love them. Can't wait for your next adventure. And by the way wife and I have been together 35 years, married 32 and let me tell you some of our adventures have ended in disasters, but the memories are what we can look back at and say we survived them together ❤ Alaska and Hawaii are still on our bucket list.... Thank you for taking me to all 50 states with you. I binged watched many of your videos and it helped me re-live some of the great times I had when I traveled all 48 states in my camper/rv. (I flew to Alaska & Hawaii to make all 50 states.)

I can’t wait to see where you go next!✈️🌎 Also, awesome to see Angel’s Landing on your recap. So here’s a little travel disaster we had once. One time for our anniversary we decided to rent a nice home in Park City. Well, not only did the house not have any running hot water so we had to cold showers, the claw foot bathtub we were looking forward to had a thick dirty ring around the tub, the sheets on the bed were matted with cat hair, and there was a used dirty sock under the sheets! And to top it all off with the ultimate cherry on top🍒 the owner falsely accused us of stealing a cereal bowl from her kitchen cabinet and then threatened to call the cops on us. It’s funny now when we think back on it but it wasn’t then.😩😂

Matt and Nat, through 37 years of marriage, my wife and I have visited 47 states. Through your wonderful videos, we were able to relive a lot of wonderful memories of our travels, and we got a few ideas from you for our last three states. We were saddened watching this video, because we had a great week in Maui.

What a bummer, Maui is absolutely gorgeous, I would highly recommend to go back during April to May and Sept to Nov. I’ve always gone during June and July and it’s really hot but weather is fantastic.

Maui is the best if Maui is the island experience you want and enjoy. I don’t have a best island when it comes to Hawaii but I do have my favorite parts of each island, as far as luau’s go they’re fun but they’re all pretty much the same thing some better than others. The trip experience you had in Maui left you something to go back for.
I’m so sorry your time in Maui didn’t go better 😭 it is a HUGE accomplishment to complete 50 states in a year, and something you should be very proud of! I went to Maui back in 2005 and have fond memories of going to that exact banyan tree you showed! 💕
Hello Matt and Nat, I came across your videos a few days ago and I have really been enjoying them. Y'all are so lucky to be able to travel like this. I am so sorry about the weather that you had while in Maui, such an expensive trip to have had bad weather most of the time. Maybe one day you will be able to go back. Just take us on some trips to the Caribbean much cheaper and in some parts just as beautiful. I have to go back and finish watching all your videos. I am also from Nashville Tn and enjoying seeing the places you have filmed here. Keep up the good work.

Oh, wow! I’ve never seen Hawaii like that, ever! So sorry your trip went south. Normally Hawaii is so beautiful and sunny with only light afternoon showers. But like they say, can’t predict the weather! So sorry your trip didn’t turn out like you wanted it to.

Bummer end to your 50 States in a year series , thank you for the amazing way you have rolled with the punches through out the year in general so much more relatable than your average travel channel. On the upside if it was not for you we would not be going to Durango Colorado and taking the amazing train 🚂🚃🚃🚃 trip, we were just going to drive past, after seeing how much fun you had we just had to add it to our trip. Thank you both and at least Nat didn't get hangry lol 🤣
Just watched this one. Sad that your trip didn’t work out which would be so disappointing. Even sadder that Maui is basically gone now. :(
I remember my first trip to Hawaii. Hurricane Ewa hit and the island lost power. We were on the 16th floor of an old hotel with interior stairwells. There were no windows in the stairs and no emergency lighting. The hotel had to put candles on every landing so guests could go up and down without the elevators. One night we had reservations at an expensive
revolving rooftop restaurant. Throughout our meal the power would go out and leave us in darkness as the Waikiki skyline went black. And similar to you there were expensive yachts washed up on the shore. I guess I can relate to your experience, but the rest of my trip was sunny and beautiful.

We went to Oahu in june for my daughter's graduation present from us. 6 days in of our 9 day stay, we had to take her to the emergency room with enterocolitis. The last 3 days of our vacation were spent in the condo. We were grateful, however that we had booked heavy on the front end of the trip, so the last few days were supposed to be relaxing days and shopping days. We did come home with a pretty hefty emergency room bill as if we had not spent enough money in hawaii already!
Congratulation on accomplishing your goal. You guys have gotten really good at making these videos. They are fun to watch even when you were crying which usually it kills me to see a lady in tears. Keep up the great work. Also, thanks for paying attention to the music you post. I hear it's one of the more challenging parts of YTing and so many of the channels I watch just kill me with one piece of music they use in every video. Can't wait to see what's next. Keep Smiling!

I was on the Big Island in Hilo and Kona in December when there was a blizzard. It poured every single day. Roads washed out. Everything closed. I never even got in the ocean. I am betting this was the same time you were in Maui. I cried all the way home to Indiana…

Ugh, sorry you had so many issues with your planned activities. Usually we always feel like the unexpected “not going according to plan” bits ends up being the most memorable/our favorite part of a trip. But I can see how in this particular situation, considering how many specific activities you had planned, and that you’d already been rolling with the punches & “chins-up” for a few days, that it could really break you down at some point. But hey, the bright side is you accomplished your 50 states goal and had a super-unique trip. I mean, a blizzard warning in Hawaii, come on! Unfortunately all of these unusual weather patterns are getting more and more common with climate change, but you did a great job of making the most of it. And you still showed some beautiful footage!
I just found your videos about 2 weeks ago and have been enjoying your journey. I’m sorry to hear Maui was a bit of a bust. My husband and I had a similar experience with several days of rain. We even had a day where the power was out on the whole island. Not much you can do other than make the best of it.
Anyway, I can’t wait to see what new adventures the future has in store for you both.
Bad experiences are sometimes better as they come with more memories. I was just at Edisto Island and while paddle boarding with the dolphins was fun I have more story to tell about me being pulled out to sea on the paddle board and needing the coast guard to come save me and the others.
Bummer Maui wasn't great, but I'm glad you at least found a fun dessert and yummy meal to celebrate the end of your 50 state journey! Congrats on getting all of your videos done! Looking forward to what's next!
Yay! You both did it! That’s the most important thing. You set a goal and achieved it. Plus, I got to go along for the ride. Some places you went to brought back memories for me. Wichita, KS being one. New Jersey my home state being another and a few more. And seeing some of the states that I haven’t explored yet seem so exciting to me. Try not to be bummed out about Maui. In a positive light, now you have a reason to go back there. You can go for a wedding anniversary or birthday, or even Christmas! You both did a great job!! You should be proud of yourselves. So sorry the weather wasn’t so nice while you were there, so frustrating. We’ve been to Maui a few times, Lanai (weird) and Big Island. We love BI and Maui but have not been there this time of year. Risotto looks good but agree on the tenderness of the rice. You will have your luao. Go back, for sure. Because you only need one luao in your life!

I'm sorry for all that was going on during your stay, but for what it's worth, just realize that not everyone can afford to go to Hawaii. I've always wanted to go, but now I'm to old, but I can dream. 😆...trying to imagine what I would look like in a grass skirt....really?!!! Oh God! As I am watching this I feel your pain with the headache the weather can cause.At the moment hurricane Debby is coming through eastern nc and will be for the next THREE DAYS! with much flooding and washed out roads because it has stalled over us

You do you but just an FYI for your viewers. It is really not a good idea to go in the water after a those kind of storm. Most local kids know better than to go in the muddy waters. More likely to be bitten by sharks, way more random rip currents. Way more likely to get bacterial infections due to dirty run off and possible sewage overflow. Especially when power go out for a significant period of time especially in the Kihei/Wailea area.
