    We've already seen countless times this season alone that Jalen Hurts crosses the plain BEFORE the running backs are even pushing. The majority of the power and work is done by the tanks in FRONT of Hurts, NOT the backs pushing him from behind. If they ban the push from behind, the Eagles would still be more successful than the majority of teams currently are because of the powerhouse O line they've worked to build.

    It’s not like a Rugby scrum but more like a Maul. Scrums start with all players locked together fighting for a ball that is placed on the ground. A maul you try to bring a player down who has the ball while his teammates push with him. In a proper ruck the ball can even be handed off to player behind you and/or the player peels off and runs for more meters.
    Considering American football evolved out of Rugby I’m surprised more teams aren’t trying to incorporate more rugby tactics into their game play.

    • @kellydg471
      @kellydg471 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

      The ball cannot be handed off in a ruck. If you handle the ball in a ruck, you will be penalized. However, the maul, by definition means the ball is in the player's hands and can be handed off to player behind you. I agree with you that the NFL shoulld study rugby tactics to learn how to defend a maul on their goaline.

    1. As Richard Sherman said, the NFL is hypocritical in how they don't let defenses attack looe this on punts anf FG tries for ppayer safety, but when this play helps the offense, nobody cares.
    2. This is old school football... except the part of being able to push. Remember the Ice Bowl QB sneak by Bart Star? The HB isn't signaling TD, he is showing the officals that he isn't pushing because that was against the rules for decades.
    3. Nobody cared that Brady was (and still is in the all-time record books) the best at QB sneaks because he wasn't getting a tush push, amd was earning in on his own with a signal between him and his center if he liked an alignment and saw a gap.
    4. People keep acting like only tye Eagles are good at it and come up with lies that everyone else failed at their attempts. I am a 49ers fan. I have seen them do it twoce this year already and line up and fake it and just handed it to CMC to the edge vs a stacked front.
    I am a former offensive lineman myself and love this play. Hell, I coach amateur adults and we abuse QB sneak/keepers when the defense doesn't respect the A gaps. As a Center myself, my QB and Guards and I would see bad A gap alignment, get a double on the nose, drive hik off tue ball to the LB or on his back and let the QB run for 4+. Once we forced the defense in the league to respect the A gaps, we attacked off tackle and broke the big 20+ yard runs. Love trench play. Just ban the push from behind.

If a type of play is highly injurious with little gain in excitement or spectacle, then you should try to regulate it out of the game.

      Meanwhile, a 2015 study in the British Journal of Sports Medicine looked at 13 articles that addressed sports concussion rates. It found that rugby placed first, with a rate more than three times higher than ice hockey and eight times higher than American football.
      As far as direct comparison studies: One paper, published in 2016 in the American Journal of Sports Medicine found that the overall injury rate was about three times higher in rugby than in American football, and that a subset of this, the concussion rate, was about 2.5 times higher in rugby than in football.
      Nearly half of all rugby injuries are concussions.

    To ban it is to strip a team with their OWN unique edge, well within the rules of the game, (and I have no objections to it, and I'm not even an Eagles fan). It takes brute strength to push not only the man behind you, but push them through the men in FRONT of you. That is just amazing, and to be respected, because it's not like it's a gauranteed play. It takes a great deal of strength, force and energy to do this 10 second play, and if other teams want to eliminate this edge, they need to work harder and build a better defense. It was therefore unfair to teams trying to abide by it because teams that didn't were not penalized. Now - why didn't the officials call it? I have no idea. The league needs to do a better job of reviewing plays with officials and making sure they are following and enforcing the rules and not making them up themselves. Look at this past weekend Jags vs. Bill - Jared Allen of the Jags hits Jaren Allen of the Bills for a great tackle that basically wins the game. He is penalized 15 yards because his facemask touched the quarterback's facemask. Not helmet to helmet, but merely facemasks touching......is that the rule? I honestly don't know but it seems a bit much. The tackle appeared clean with no malice involved.......Still, it comes down to the league controlling the officials better.

    People will whine about anything. #1 reason these defenses can't stop it is because of how fast they get the play off. They can't react fast enough to stop it

    • @tomcollins5112
      @tomcollins5112 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      No, the reason why the defense can't stop it is because the defense can't form a counter maul to stop it, as what would be done in Rugby. Unlike Rugby, forward passing is legal in American football. Which means at any time before the runner crosses the line of scrimmage, he can stand up and heave the ball downfield. Which means the defense needs to have defensive backs and linebackers. Which means they can't pile all of their defenders into a scrum and fight power with power.

    If everyone tried it, and they were all finding the same success as the Eagles, then maybe, you can make the argument that we (supposedly) don't want the game to devolve into nothing but the Tush Push, so we'll ban it, but that clearly not the case. If it was banned now, it will be banned only because the Eagles are too good with it, and that doesn't seem like a fair reason to ban a play.

    This is basically a Rugby scrum where all 8 Forwards in a tight formation push forward, creating a battering ram through defences, paving the way for the ball handler (normally a halfback or number 8) to score a try (touchdown). In the NFL the Eagles are exploiting this very effectively. Old school but it works.🙂🏉

    Eagles o-line false starts on at least 50% of these ‘unstoppable’ qb sneak plays. Last week against Washington there was a real bad false start that was uncalled on a crucial 4th and 1 but the refs actually did finally call them on one of the false starts last week. The eagles always seem to find a way to bend the rules and get away with it on these short yardage plays. 2 years ago it was the illegal receiver pick play on the goal line. The refs finally started to catch on and now the eagles go for a new one. The eagles take advantage of situations where it’s hard for refs to get a clear look and they break rules.
