  • After years of Portugal being famously welcoming to the van life community things have changed with new laws prohibiting motorhomes and vans. We are in the Algarve looking for somewhere to park and it's not been proving all that easy...

    I usually see your video when it first comes on here in the morning but today I went and looked at a camper van for sale. I made an offer so will see what happens. Love that your showing how things are there in Portugal with the whole wild camping situation. The Algarve beaches look really inviting and what a great Eco park you found. Alan, you needed to warm up that calzone and have some marinara dipping sauce with it. Is that pesky leak gone from the water tap? Hope you have a good week and don't have to do any more bin park-ups.

    Greetings from a cold and wet Poland.
    Our electricity has just been reconnected having been of since the early hours of Friday morning! Terrible storm brought down a tree, destroying the sub station here in the village.
    Wonderful video, great scenery and what nice people at the Ecopark. I enjoyed the trip to the seaside. Sadge hanging over that wall scared me a bit. I bet the drop scared the people who built the wall too.
    You both look very well. The lovely weather does help I guess. Thanks so much for the cookery lesson Alan. I think even I could manage that meal.

      Sad? Don't you get it, the more and more vans, mostly camping cars are on the road. They are big and take larges parking spaces. Plus not everyone is respectful of the environment, some dump rubbish anywhere.
      But restrictions are not everywhere, mostly in tourist areas.

    Another brilliant vlog and a wonderful insight into your lives in the van. We have been out in Europe in our van for around 6 months and although we haven't had a problem with wild camping. We can see its becoming an issue from the reviews on Park4night. I could be wrong but I think the problem is people just take the p#ss. They stay far too long and treat the spots like its a camp site. It won't be long before its illegal throughout Europe. Which is a real shame!

    The problem with vanlife in Portugal is the way the vanlifers behave, when they park in any place just because, for example, on the edge of a cliff, because it looks beautiful, ignoring the fact that putting a monster with more than 3500Kg in a fragile cliff harms the environment. The more vanlifers behave this way, the more unwelcome they will be, anywhere in the world.
    The rule that all vanlifers and tourists must obey is respect for the place where they are, anywhere in the world.
    It is possible to spend the night in Portugal in places suitable for parking, like any car, so if your motorhome is 7m you cannot park in a car space, you will have to find a suitable place.

    • @RunningOffGrid
      @RunningOffGrid  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

There are set national laws about what they define as camping as you know, I think they are clear enough for it to stand the test of time, maybe some local changes on the coast etc. But it's a large country and sleeping in your car or truck and a motorhome is probably better safety wise, Portugal is small most go to the Algarve and that can mean it effects the county.
