Actually, father Casey I had a chance to meet you and it was when you were doing mass at the Denver location. I saw with Leona eyes how you guys were delivering ministry and you shared a view stories of you all being on the road and how you were ministering to people. I thought that was really cool. You took advantage of Baseball as a vehicle to deliver ministry and so what if you were there enjoying the baseball game, but you were also working. I thought that was very much out of the box thinking to do a ministry of that like this and what a better way to spend your summer than to go to all these baseball games delivering the gospel and also seeing something that You enjoy. God bless you, father Casey, and I’m excited to see how well God is using you in the future.
Fr. Casey, I am a protestant, but I love your heart. May God bless you and your work!
The lady from the bachelorette party was so aggressive with the first answer, and only 2 questions later was self inquisitive and softer, she calmed down so fast, probably from your calm demenor!
I'm a 69 year old Episcopalian, but I like watching your videos. I also introduced my best friend, a 72 year old Catholic, to your channel. God brings people to Himself with love and compassion. And treating people with love, understanding and compassion is the best way to evangelize. BTW - Priests, monks and nuns, like all other human beings, need time to relax and enjoy things. It's good for mental and physical health!
“Correct, I guess, but entirely unhelpful.” The voice of Wisdom over the voice of Intelligence. Thanks for your compassion toward all God’s children.
I feel like that is part of why the way I have approached people on many subjects in the past wasn't all that successful. You can be right all you want but when you're talking to somebody who has made a very individual set of experiences, those are going to be pivotal in the way they approach the topic.
Is that a good or a bad thing? Irrelevant. It is fact.
I like people who are smarter than me in these things and help people to heal. Reconciliation to me is the highest of goals because even if you don't bring people around 100%, every step in the right direction is worth so much.
This past year during Lent, when the Gospel reading covered the temptation in the desert, I'll never forget what the priest said: "The devil is not wise, he is only clever." It stuck with me. Winning arguments and correcting heresy, which drove me for years when it came to discussing faith, is not the way to win souls.
W pfp lol
I briefly met Fr. Casey during the MLB tour. Anyone who saw him in person could see he was definitely working. There wasn't much downtime when people weren't engaging with him about pastoral questions or things along those lines, at least in my observation. Suddenly felt moved to give him the 20 bucks in my pocket to help with gas, and I definitely don't regret it, hearing how after the whole summer his budget just broke even.
Also, anyone who has done pastoral work, community organizing, counseling, etc knows that it really is exhausting work to listen and talk with people all day about difficult conversations.
Greatly appreciate it! Which stadium did we meet in?
@@BreakingInTheHabit In Kansas City. If I recall, you just drove in earlier that day, before going to the Negro League Baseball Museum the next day.
@@BreakingInTheHabit- do it again. Maybe women's basketball this time.
Or softball.
Jesus Brackets.
Fr Casey, you were instrumental in bringing me home to the Catholic Church. I was baptized and confirmed at one of the parrishes you visited on your trip, and only missed you by a couple weeks before i began RCIA. I just want to thank you and your evangelization ministry and efforts, both online and off. You are doing fantastic work.
Praise God
I have to say, this is your best work. What insight! This is what Francis was talking about getting out and “smelling like the sheep.” How many priests do I know who would RUN from these kinds of confrontations!! They are more comfortable behind the pulpit, the altar rather than HEAR what goes on out here - in our hearts. Good for you!! This was great. YOU’RE great.
The ballpark tour is what brought me to this channel. There are always questions on how to get younger people back in the church or to stay in the church. In my opinion, Seeing church leaders in everyday settings is very helpful. Churches are part of a community.
I met Fr Casey at the Mass held in Denver during their tour. Their community involvement and engagement was beautiful.
Speaking as an atheist, I never thought you were goofing off or wasting money on your tour. I also regret not knowing about the tour, because I would have taken off from work to go. I fully understand most of what you say/do can't be filmed. Even though I don't follow your belief, you are helping people and deserve some fun too. Hopefully, you will do another tour in the future.
Fr. Casey - You reminded me to take advantage of my small opportunity to evangelize. When I first came back from my ACTS retreat, I wore my retreat crucifix constantly and also my fisherman bracelet. Later, after my Crucillo retreat, I swapped my crucifixes frequently. I had several conversations related to my crucifix, and others who had been on retreat commented on the fisherman's bracelet. Over time, I've gotten lazy, and wear my crucifix less frequently. (Often only to mass, where I'm not talking to people who might need Christ.) I need to "man up" and start wearing it everywhere, and be open to discussing my faith with folks who comment about it.
thank you!
Funny. I live in a part of Antwerp that is 80% muslim (at least). Moved here only last year. A couple of weeks ago, I started wearing my crucifix over my T-shirt. A small way to testify. It hasn't lead to any conversations (not that it needs to), but I do see the eyes of passers-by glancing at my face, the crucifix, and then my face again. Interesting detail: I have a shaved head and a longish beard, so many muslims assume I'm muslim. Not anymore, I guess ;-). I wish more christians in my cityc/country would wear their faith signs openly, and also that a crucifix would not be worn as decoration by non-christians.
“The Kingdom of Heaven is like a mustard seed”. Thank you for this beautiful work. You can tell that so many of our beliefs and perceptions of God are shaped by past wounds. Merely asking questions like this is planting a seed for people to reflect on this.
Your questions are excellent. You go back with a different approach to really get to the root of the issue.
What is the full story of Patrick Tuttle OFM?
I’m not a sports guy but, that sounds fun. Priests are human too. They’re allowed to have fun. Well done Padres.
Yeah but you need to understand franciscans take a vow of poverty
@@Hazzard483--which appears to have been kept, so: no harm no foul, no?
@Hazzard483 a vow of poverty doesn't mean "You aren't ever allowed to enjoy nice things again."
I bet they are fans of San Diego's. Lol.
Thank you Fr. Casey! God bless!
Fr Casey thank you for doing this and thank God for Catholics (both the laity and the clergy) like you who have patience. I have a short temper, especially when it comes to people that are unabashedly antagonistic to the Church, whom I would not have been able to continue a respectful conversation with.
10:39 Genuine kindness is *extremely* disarming. Especially if one person goes into it with an adversarial attitude and then is just met with pure kindness from the other.
I’m at 26 year old Pentecostal Pastor, and golf instructor. I watch this channel because there’s something about Father Casey’s sprit of evangelism that I truly glean from. Everyday, in golf or church I’m making it my buisness to leave a piece of God in every setting. We serve a Missional Jesus, no way we are not outside the walls of the church enhancing the beliefs of others! I can hear God say to you, Father Casey, “well done my good and faithful servant.”
Just like Jesus. Meeting people where they are. ❤
Thank you Father. I appreciate your approach of showing up, being kind and loving well.
I absolutely understand this and wish I could do more like this. The woman who asked questions and couldn't believe you, but was engrossed with religion and started the conversation - I feel that. And we really really do need more people like you, Frs. Casey and Tito, who can be patient and listen to people and ask questions to get people thinking. Suggest ideas, maybe.
I've been talking with two good friends who've been at my job much longer than I. I'm patient with them, even though they have very different conceptions of free will, the world, Christianity, how you approach family life, and so on. I wish I were more so; I know I can be so assertive that maybe it stifles questions. But at the same time, hey, I'm there. I am at least trying to listen. I'm getting better. And I am honest about where I'm coming from and what I see. It's not a perfect witness, but damned if I'm not trying to start the conversation and till the soil to let the Sower of Seeds plant some new ideas in some hearts.
I have to take today apart from them because I was exposed to COVID, and these guys (and many others I work with) are older, and I want to respect them. But I'ma pray for them today and keep praying for them, hopefully long after I stop working there.
I'm always eager to live out what Teresa of Avila says: "Christ has no body now but yours...Yours are the hands, yours are the feet, Yours are the eyes, you are his body."
You two both lived this weeks Gospel, Jesus sending his disciples 2by2 to spread the Word and if you weren’t welcomed, dust the dirt off you feet and continue your journey to others. 🙏🙏
I really appreciated your comment that even if you spent $10,000 it would still be worth it. While I am not Catholic, I have nothing but love and respect for you, other members, and the faith as a whole. In my faith, a favorite scritpure teaches that the worth of souls is great in the sight of God. And i think you meeting with people where they are shows that you also believe the worth of souls is great in His sight. I love to see it! God bless!
Love you, Father Casey. It's so much easier to talk than to listen. Much easier to throw bombs than to meet people where they are.
It's really hard to talk about evangelism topics these days. Sin, Gods love, heaven (and hell), repentance.
Thank you for all these years of videos. I have come back to Jesus through a non-denominational church and became part of that family. I now have moved and am drawn to the Franciscan Parish in Hartford CT but am afraid to go back to Catholic Church I have so many questions and concerns, but I am still feeling a push to go back. You are helping me to bridge this gap.
I know that parish. You will find nothing but welcome. All of the friars are great, but Fr. Mike has been a mentor of mine for years. See if you can meet with him.
Wow! Beautiful examples of meeting people where they are. This is so needed! “Why can’t secular places be places of encounter and reconciliation”?
I remember meeting you guys at Busch Stadium. I was so excited to see you.
I loved that you guys did this. I was sad you didn’t do the same this year. Thanks for showing that priests are normal people too.
That's why we have to try to speak about the time we spend in church, so that they may know that we believe without shoving it down their throats, so that they know our faith exists when they want to know more about Jesus.
Fr. Casey, you and Brother Tito did the right thing, getting out there to help as many people as you could on a working vacation. ❤
Love this approach and what you do Fr Casey. This is living out the faith.
This is and was wonderful, Fr. Casey. Thank you for sharing some of your encounters and God bless.
Very inspirational Fr. Casey thank you
I see you were in Cooperstown I live near there. Father I go Mass for myself. I would give my life for the Catholic church. Priest need to have fun. God Bless all of you. We need more GOOD Priest like you.
Fr. Casey, may God Bless you for your compassion ❤ in searching for this lost 🐏 sheep and providing hope for them! 🫶😌🙏
Much appreciated insight into the tour. I love this channel and we shocked out the outcry on the bird app about this. It made sense to me then and even more so now and I'm happy people were able to encounter Christ searching for them in an unexpected place such as a baseball game. God bless!
Thank you very much. God bless you always.
I am so happy you two got to go out to these baseball games. You work so hard and deserve a little extra joy in your life.
Even before I knew these details I thought it was great that you and Tito were a presence. That you were open to listening to people was a given. As a Secular Franciscan I know how things are paid for and economized, so hearing about that part of the trip was no surprise. it was good to talk about that because it is unusual. Most trips cost a lot of money and it was natural to think of yours as being so. It was a worthwhile trip. Pace' et bene'.
Canadian here. Thank you for coming to Toronto Ontario Ontario Canada!!! Is there a friary here?? Now you need to do hockey and basketball tours!!!!
I think the Stadium tour was a great idea for which I thought you and Father Tito explained the objective at the start very well. I was able to briefly meet both of you at Dodger Stadium having planned to go to the game with my grandson just for that very reason. When we spotted you in the crowd walking toward us, you did seem to be in a hurry to head to a specific meeting/location but you both did stop when I yelled out. Just a brief hello and me thanking both of you for doing the tour and for all you do on the various media. I was impressed that you did ask if there was something that I would like you to pray for on my behalf. That was a very good thing. Thanks again to both of you for what you do.
Beautiful!!! We must be slower to judge! Thank you father Casey for patiently and lovingly teaching in everything you do ❤
I have a very healthy prayer life. I’ve been reborn after 45 years of absence. Confessing all those sins, mortal sins I had collected over those years, was so humbling and my priest said “the Church is a forgiving Church” and gave me what I thought was a very light penance. And the mass is sooo important to me. I feel the true presence of God there. Unfortunately I’m sick so I don’t get to go as often as I’d like but the Church puts it all online. Such a huge blessing to the sick. Praise God
I hope one of the Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion is able to bring the Eucharist to you at home now that you are sick. ❤️
@@yolandasantiago8201 I’m Roman Catholic and I am not aware of any such dispensation (it would be the final rites and I’m not imminently dying, thank God) but that would be magnificent ❤️
I was the the Cubs game you went to, Cubs won that game! Also my 1st Cubs game and had a blast.
I was at your talk at St. Paul’s Basilica in Toronto. It was a great evening and very meaningful for me personally. You and Fr. Tito are fantastic!
Dude, Father, you are doing such amazing things. Keep doing this work!!! I am praying and rooting for you!! Keep fighting!
🙏🥰God bless you, Fr Casey❣️🙏
Thank you Father Casey for this. Keep going out to play ball. Greetings from Ghana. ❤❤❤
Ok, I donated for the church to do a service. That is exactly what you did. Good work regardless of the cost.
Good bless you father Casey keep up good work
Great that you saved this to showed later and did not argue with the keyboard warriors who want to cancel everything and think they know everything
Keep doing these interviews. It shows us how to help those who don’t believe or no longer attend mass-gives me ideas of what to say to them
I completely agree with the message of your video. Also, you are excellent at asking the right questions. That is a rare skill. I hope you (and other Franciscains) get a chance to go out and evangelize. (And yes, we can all appreciate that you actually evangelize and don't proselityze!) God bless you and your brothers.
Father, I was thinking out you and your baseball friend, Br. Tito, this weekend. I attended the Civil War Re-enactment at Gettysburg this past weekend. Sunday mass was offered by a re-enactor. This priest comes every year as a re-enactor (Artillery - Union Army). How wonderful that the faith and the sacraments are coming to where people are. I agree that sometimes there will be criticism of the "good times" priests, but hey, all workers need time to take off, unwind and just live their faith. Good job.
Thank you 🙏
I think you had gone to the Yankee game a day after I had gone to a Yankee game (June of 2022). I just missed you, Fr. Casey! It would have been a pleasure to make your acquaintance and talk about the faith! God bless you for sharing the Gospel message.
Good job Father! Am happy nobody attacked you or anything. I like those questions. Definitely I can use them too. ❤
Thank you Fr Casey! I love the Catholic Church! And it’s awesome that you get out and do things like this! It is hard to get into a conversation about faith with people. But I would talk if they were interested in our faith.
As a Jew (Jewish Mom/Technically Catholic Dad) who is passionate about interfaith dialogue, I would love to sit down with a Christian and talk about our similarities/difference in a respectful manner. The closest I got to respectful Jewish-Christian dialogue was in college when I talked to some members of the Catholic Club. I view Christians as my little cousins (my fellow Jews are my siblings and fellow Tribespeople).
I know a priest who is presently working on getting his PhD in Jewish Studies. Sounds like the kind of person you'd enjoy talking with.
I remember in Catholic school we learned quite a bit about Judaism in religion class and were taught to view y’all as our older cousins. The teacher emphasized that as Catholics we need to know where we came from to understand our own Faith. :)
@@carolinanavarro9076 I have no intentions of converting, thank you 😊 However, as your Grandma I’ll bring freshly baked Challah, homemade Hummus, and homemade Matzah Ball Soup.
I’m sorry you got negative comments, even if you were just having fun, you have the right a break.
I’m also glad you took it as an opportunity to further show pain what you do.
I also love you openly asking people these questions. I personally can identify with most of what they had to say, the good and the bad.
Seeing fr. Casey respond to the bad I feel makes me feel heard.
Two things have drawn me back to Catholicism after decades aware- pope Francis & fr. Casey.
Should be a separate post;
My first response to hearing the question was that I have issues with the limited role of women.
My priest, fr. Casey & others have addressed it respectfully & with understanding, but without real explanation of why it can’t work or why it hasn’t been changed.
Credit is given but that’s the end. “Women are the foundation, they are running churches, they bring their families” in, but they will never be a bishop, or a Catholic friar. But they ARE appreciated so titles shouldn’t matter.
Some people want the title. It means something. It’s an accomplishment, and signal to others of the study you’ve devoted or work done to get that title. Men need the titles.
You have to leave the denomination to make a career as clergy unless you want to be a nun. That’s very sad to me.
Within this “topic” since it’s not really a debate, just going in circles for almost 2000 years, I never hear those early years discussed.
It SEEMS like there were plenty of female apostles, teachers, preachers & leaders for the first hundred years. When did it stop? Why?
I’d love someone to address the role of women through Christ’s eyes, as well as we can interpret it. I don’t think he’d have objected to a woman being a priest or working all the way up to Pope.
I don’t understand why Mary Magdalene, the first to see the resurrected Christ, a devoted student & supporter, is NOT considered an apostle.
Great job getting out there.
I recently stumbled upon your channel. I love how you talk about the church, questions we all have and make it easy to understand. I’m catholic, went to 12 years of catholic school - we had a very young priest at the grade school and growing up he stayed in our parish for quite a while. He would always show up at the beach, or the local snow ski resort. People do forget you all have a life outside of the church and are human too and enjoy all things we all enjoy. If I could change 1 thing about the church - as this video asked a gentleman - it would be to allow priests to marry. There are many brilliant men around who would make awesome priests and husbands. I think you are one of them. 😊
Thanks for this video, I did was a bit concern about that trip, but actually is great that you reached out to the people.
Just keep doing what you do! Keep shining for GOD's glory! Connie in rural Pa. P.S. Shine Jesus Shine!
My son and I went to meet you both at Target Field! It was amazing how much time you spent with my son who had just graduated from a Catholic high school.
God bless you Father for reaching out to people the way you have. When i give testimony as to how I became Catholic I say the Holy Spirit guided me to your videos that introduced me to the Church. Now recently confirmed, Im home at the church our Lord Jesus gave us. God bless you Father and thank you and thank God for his many blessings. 🙏
God bless you and welcome.
Wow amazing work! Connecting with people who would otherwise never think much about their faith. Meeting people where they are is definitely showing some positive results.
I can relate to the guy at 3:00 in, wholeheartedly. I live in a town of 250 people, in very rural America, and Catholicism is the major religion, throughout the whole part of this state. I was born into and raised in the Catholic faith, and I struggle with people in town, who go to the Catholic church. I think our priests we've had, are good people, but it's all the folks who attend the church, who keep me from going. The way they treat people who aren't Catholic, and the way they act towards those, not in their church clique, is appalling. I've asked many of them "How can you call yourself a Catholic, while treating people like you do? How can you call yourself a Catholic, and not even follow the Golden Rule? Being a Catholic, means being a Catholic longer than just an hour on Sunday." The hypocrisy, the two faced attitude, the belittlement, it's rampant in our church. It's one of the reasons I follow folks like you on here. It's my lifeline to the Church. Thanks for that.
Bless you, thank you.
Thank you Father 🙏🏼
So good. I figured all this was happening off camera, glad to see some of it. The last conversation was so powerful. I work with college students in a campus ministry and I see this kind of difficult relationship with God a lot. I’d love to see a video, almost a teaching to us, about how to ask good questions, give space for doubt, not be judgmental etc… basically how to approach people the way you did in this video. I agree wholeheartedly with your style in this type of environment and would love to hear more about how to replicate it in your life.
Thankyou for reaching out to people.❤
Thank you for your work, Fr. Casey, and sharing your insights with us.
I enjoy talks with my priest. I have reentered the catholic church two weeks ago and I would love having the opportunity to talk to priests more in my age bracket or even younger. As much as I enjoy talking to my priest, who is past 70, there is a difference in vernacular.... that makes things harder to be honest.
Awesome job (video and the trip). Thank you! 🙏
This was an awesome evangelization trip. If only when you both showed up in the Franciscan habits, but you did so much more to witness to our super amazing GOD. We need more of this, by all of us. We've all been called to bring the message of God's love and salvation to all the world (whatever my little corner of it may be).
Well said Fr Casey! This video really put a different perspective on me when it comes to recording and evangelising.❤God bless you
I think your trip was wonderful and hope you do it, or something similar, again!
Excellent use of feedback loops (social media comments) to hone and clarify the core meaning of the baseball tour. You've shown us a great example of engagement with one's community. I'm gonna run with it in my circle of influence. Thank you!😃
6:35 "...Get them to the next step..." The heart of evangelism. Well said! I can affirm this as an evangelical Protestant.
Be richly blessed every day for this TH-cam channel!
I still have my blue "Bleacher Brothers" shirt!! In my heart, I knew that you were always doing the Lord's work behind the camera.
Three priests have had a huge impact in my life. All of them shared deeply about their vocation, fears, and hobbies. They knew what their weaknesses were. They really cared about about their parishioners. They came across just like you.
No need to explain, but you're doing great things!
Really beautiful, inspiring video, Father! I thought it was such an amazing venture 2 years ago, and I'm reminded of how much I think that (probably even more so!) once again. I remember wishing (but obviously understanding) I could see more of your encounters with people during that MLB "tour". So thanks for these extra little snippets! I so appreciate the work you do, Father, and your multidimensional ministry will most certainly continue to be in my prayers.💖💖💖
P.S. I really wish I could've seen you when you were at the Santa Barbara Mission in Santa Barbara, California, as it's not that unreasonable a drive from where I am.😅
I really like your patience and how it seems like it would be easy to talk to you and ask the questions I have. I really wish you were here in Raleigh. I would be the first one in line to make an appointment to see you. Keep up the good work.
A weakness of the internet is that some viewers make instant negative assumptions about various things. It’s not only easier to be cynical, folks can feel smarter- ( oh, l KNOW!- nobody gets the jump on ME)
10:48 That truly made me think of how necessary and effective Friars are.
We had a Parochial Vicar, unfortunately only for one year before he was reassigned to be Pastor of 5 parishes, who went to local high school football games and even the state championship in his priestly attire. He played a major role in the confirmation program too. He was able to reach youth and the community in a special way because he engaged in this way.
I love this and would love to see more priests coming out of the church and speaking with the people.
Father Casey I totally enjoyed your Basball Stadiums tour. The only problem you did not like my hometown stadium Citizens Bank Park. God Bless
👏👏👏 loved this video! Keep doing the good work
You are such a good example of what the Bible exhorts us to be as Catholic Christians: patient, kind, not vaunting of self but available to listen to others and make them feel seen. How many times do our egos jump right out of our mouths with our words because we try to "fix" or "direct" someone's life because we "know better?" If we know better, we should do better, as you do, Fr. Casey. Thank you!!
Great job. Didn't see the original video. Loved the setup you just did. I think the reason most people are not willing to talk about their faith, even if it is very strong. They don't want to say anything incorrectly. It might turn people off even more. Great stuff to ponder. Thanks
What is shown on camera is never the whole picture. The fact that people would critique footage about a vacation, and call it frivolous, going so far as to call into question you and Father Tito's devotion to your vocation, just shows people to be sanctimonious and devoid of critical thinking. I appreciate this video, Father Casey, that shows a glimpse into all the "spiritually oriented" things you did on that vacation, but really it should be unnecessary.
You are a step on the journey. Just brilliant
Father Casey,
I was told many, many years ago by a man I truly respect...a man that became Friar Minor...he said " God answers prayers but sometimes the answer is no." Just my thoughts but it seems if more folk knew and understood this, we would have a little better understanding.
thank you father God bless you
What I wouldn't give to just be able to have a lengthy conversation with you. There's so much I want to ask and discuss. I can quite readily describe my problems with church, and I just have so many questions. I just feel more tired and lost with every passing year.
