How can I not know you? I’m a jazz singer, who loves all jazz singers, pretty much. Where have you been all my life? Now I have to hear everything you’ve done! I could listen to you all night long.
As a jazz musician, he is not well known to the public, but I think he is a far more genius than the geniuses who play a variety of instruments that are commonly seen. That trumpet... Brass instruments have a completely different mechanism from the basic instruments that make up bands such as guitars, pianos, basses, and drums. Brass instruments are a sound is not produced by simply touching it. It's the same with singing. It's completely different from playing an instrument. But master both of them perfectly at the same time? He also plays the piano well. Are there any other people like this out there now? there wouldn't be Great James Morrison is not a singer.
It's so interesting how your trumpet improvisations are almost identical to your singing style and scatting! You are truly one with your instrument(s)!!
Benny Benack, Hi! -- Embarrassed that I've not heard you or of you but I really want to hear more. I don't know why but, I think maybe your work hasn't been discovered out in Portland, as much as in the east. I will start talkin' because you're terrific and everyone will want MORE.
I’ve known this tune by Steve Allen and Ray Brown for years. Good to hear again in such a classy duo version. Are the lyrics original with the song, or a later addition?
Ray hated his composition, he always told me :" how could I have composed a tune like that? I must have been feeling sick that day ... and the lyrics are nut !"
@@zu0832 um... Ray Brown is credited with the music and Steve Allen was credited with the lyrics. The first recording I’m aware of was when Ray Brown was with Oscar Peterson in 1961 and I think Steve Allen added lyrics in 1963.

Christian McBride is on another level
Christian charges the instrument with power, grace and musicality. And he's clearly playing what he hears and feels. Such rare and wonderful mastery.
To quote the famous philosopher SUFFERIN' SUCCOTASH! That was grand!
