    back when I was still actively gigging bassist, I remember doing this too - to learn unfamiliar tunes quickly & on the fly... and would use roman numerals (I, IIm, IIIm, IV, V7, VIm, VII) in place of alphabet letters, so could easily quickly transpose to any key in any position on the bass fret-board! :-)

      Good way to write a chart. I just the other day wrote a chart out with numbers in all 12 keys. It's just simple Diatonic 7ths ... I put the numbers above. 1-7. No b9s etc. Just included a B-7b5.

    Your chords worked out good for me against the melody on my piano. It inspired me to listen to a melody on TH-cam and find the notes of the melody on my piano. That part is real fast and easy for me. Where I need practice is finding the chords. It seems my knowledge in diatonic chords is working out for me so far in finding the chords, but I need more practice to pick up speed. Your video inspired me to practice this some more. Thanks Aimee!

    Elton was presented this from a nice lady at the record label through her dads chart on the fly actually!!! Bought and paid for. As were many songs like today's music in office business! Sorry just some inside ancient hidden knowledge. Dad noted on the staff lines but mentally if I gave him music he gets pretty hyper and remembers all melody and lyrics. Wild. Love your work Aimee yes biggest stars had adoring fans offer hits maybe just one music producers kid. Wink.

    So helpful. Mine always look terrible but I think your approach using the slashes for beats will make them look cleaner and easier to read. Thank you!

    Thank for the video.
    A good exercise would be to play the song from what you wrote away from the piano to see (if and) what adjustments you would make. A follow up to that would be to compare it to the sheet music...and then seeing what results if you write te sheet at the piano while also listening to the track.

    Back in time, I used to play in a live band karaoke bar and the pianist sometimes was whispering me the chord progression on the fly, I learned a lot, thank you for bringing me back those memories, great video btw! Thumbs up and you got a sub, please check it out my channel if you like Brazilian music.

    My understanding is the a chart refers to an arrangement, typically for a front line of horns. What you're talking about I've always known as a lead sheet. Who knows? ;)

      "The In-N-Out Animal Style Fries are one of the most popular items on In-N-Out Burger's "secret menu." And if you've ever had them, you know why. Layered on top of hot french fries, ordering "Animal Style Fries" adds cheese, In-N-Out's secret spread, and grilled onions right on top. Pure goodness. "
      Never heard of this before... Still relatively new to In 'n Out, though... I'm in the land of Whataburger.

    Hi Aimee, i have a tutorial question. I'm new to piano playing and learning different rhythms, such as, straight beat, oom pah, split chord, half beat bounce etc. What rhythm do you recommend Your Song and ABC's should be played in, if for instance i am accompanying myself singing, or I am the designated piano player in your sisters band?.

    • @geoffmontgomery4838
      @geoffmontgomery4838 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi again, Aimee. I've just done some more reading on this. Some of my books refer to this as 'comping pattern" So i guess the better question is, what comping pattern do you recommend? Oh, and many thanks for yet another a great video lesson.

    when you wrote F(sus) was it sus2 or sus4 or is it implied? If so implied to what?

    • @jonhmusic423
      @jonhmusic423 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Jay Bransfield I believe a sus on its own implies a sus4 :)

    • @AimeeNolte
      @AimeeNolte  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Jon Hughes Music that's right. I never write "sus2." Only "add2"

    • @jonhmusic423
      @jonhmusic423 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Aimee Nolte Music I always thought an add2 would have the third in the chord as well as the two? Or would that just be an add9?

      +Kevin Lau that would be like me asking my mechanic why people have a hard time changing their own oil. Some people know how already. Some people need to learn. Some people will always pay other people to do it for them. Make sure you are careful about stuff like this, Kevin. You never want to make someone who might not know as much as you feel inferior. It's better just to help them. :-)
