I've made the same mistakes so many times, simply because I break a single pressurized tube, and then I have to wait like 2 hours before the radiation is at not-constantly-killing-me levels😂
Yep, I was SO worried I would mess up and break a tube during the video. I even made a backup of my world on the off chance that happened before I could make the meksuit with radiation protection lol.
@@RagePlaysGames what is the command of getting rid of radiation? I accidently broke a waste barrel in my testing world and you know what happened next
i accidentaly used shift+right-click with the wrench instead of just right click on the solar neutron activator and my whole base was just completely irradiated. luckly i made a set of hazmat suit and a dosimeter and a geiger counter just in case so i quickly run to the chest and put on the suit. it has been like 40 mins and there is still 26.282 uSv/h 23 blocks away from where the solar neutron activator was.
Pro tip: make a back-up base somewhere far away from your current one and chunkload your current one so the radiation goes away. Also if you have any storage system, set up a wireless bridge for it at your other base so you won't have to move everything
Yep, never a bad idea to make sure your items are accessible in case you can’t get back to your base without dying. That would be unfortunate since it takes forever to become survivable again depending on the level of radiation.
I recommend to shift-click all faces of a “side configuration” panel on a machine before putting it down near tubes or other machines. This will prevent accidentally taking the wrong material (like nuclear waste) or outputting materials. I try to keep all my machine I/O strictly opt-in. Well, except energy. I leave that as “input” on every face
There’s some sort of request for this on their issue tracker and they said they were thinking about something for it. I’m not sure how it would be implemented without putting the machine down though.
Haven't even started processing waste and already exploded reactor 2 times. We have built it on bedrock, under the base, so the only problem now is radiation, as no damages from the explosion reached any buildings. Good thing that those protection suits can stop 100% of radiation...

Rage, great series. I remember getting irradiated in NuclearCraft just by going near a wasteland biome (and dying of course because I was a noob to that mod). I'm going to attempt a playthrough in survival (last time I got romped by a raid, so that was fun), wish me luck. I watched your Let's Play series to figure out how to play some of these mods (Botania and IC2 in particular), and your presentation is probably one of the best ones I've watched.
Your tutorials have saved me SO much headache. Super easy to follow with fantastic explanations. Thank you so much for covering so much of Mekanism - I'd be lost without you! XD
It's a good thing that I built my nuclear facility several chunks away from my base, since I had a mishap with my waste line when I was trying to hook up a solar neutron activator... Apparently there was slightly more waste than I thought there was, and one barrel hadn't quite sucked all of the waste from the line when I moved the waste to another barrel than broke the original one... Long story short: Considered dawning my hazmat suit prior to this; in hindsight I probably should have, got radiation poisining, quickly teleported back to my base, died, picked up my items, and grabbed my hazmat suit from my vault. Ah, I see it now. The waste needs to be piped in from the bottom. Wow, I thought the process would be slow... That was quite quick. I instantly made 6,393 mBs of polonium.
Just a quick thank you for explaining every single step in detail. Should I know these things by this point in Mekanism? Probably (and I took notes like a boomer). This makes it expressly clear for every step. I greatly appreciate this style!
You should put breaker on fission reactor. It's easy to do with vanilla piston and lever. And 2 logics controller. One set to high temp, the other set to activation. Put lever on the activation and piston on the high temp. Orient the piston so it knocks off the lever when temp goes into red. Also have a pump always attached to the reactor as backup.
Yep, I mentioned in the fission reactor video that it’s possible to do and I’ll be adding it when we expand the setup to both a larger water cooled version and sodium version :)
Thanks for this. I've already planned to build my reactor five or six chunks away and make a teleporter to go to and from it so if it does go boom, I'll be fine to just stay away. Gonna make processing waste tedious, but it'll be worth it.
Just build everything in 60-80 blocks away from your spawn/bed if you have the smallest reactor. In that case you spawn point will be away from radiation when it explodes.
I use a pair of quantum entangloporters. I put the reactor and turbine 150 blocks away and it gets power and fissil fuel from the entangloporter. If it goes into meltdown, it won't affect my home base or the machines that give it fuel. Worst case scenario I have to rebuild the casing and fission reactor components a few days later.
Watching this after making part of my base radioactive.. Right now I am moving everything away to start a new home.. I will have this place as an experiment center 😂😂😢
well, i made my base radioactive, but since i was crafting the mekasuit, i just gave it the radioactive protection thing, so radiation really isnt a problem...
In my 1st playthrough, i didnt know what to do with the waste so the reactor exploded. What do you think happens if 192k worth of waste happen to explode? Answer is, more than 8 hours of radiation in *REAL TIME*
@@RagePlaysGames Ok, seriously, couldn't this be a world or game ending problem? This happens in your base, where presumably you have your bed..... so when the radiation kills you you're going to.... respawn into the radiation. Which is immediately going to kill you. Unless it also damages structures and entities enough to break the bed so you can respawn at world spawn..... that could be a big problem. :S
There is a way to get rid of radiation! Radiation dissipates very slowly, I also saw that covering it with layers upon layers of blocks also lowers the radiation level. According to the Geiger counter, anything lower than 3 mSv/hr won't kill you (according to my testing)
Sadly there is no other way then, it simply has to run its course and allow the half life of the radioactive material to decay to a level where it isn’t harmful which takes a VERY long time.

Actually, you dont need waste barrels. Just hook it to a solar neutron activator and immedietely process it since you will need a crapload of it. Seriously, 64k waste is like a drop of water once you start doing the cool stuffs in endgame. For the spent waste, i usually just go like 2k blocks away, place a quantum, process it there, then breaking it there. Place a chunkloader for good measure
While you may not need the waste barrel prior to the neutron activator (I’m using it as a buffer in case it’s ever night and I don’t sleep and leave the reactor running), you’d still need them after since the spent nuclear waste can’t be used anywhere and is still radioactive. You get 10x less than you produce nuclear waste but until you have a SPS, there’s no byproduct free processing method. Doing this away from the base and just leaving it or letting it out is definitely an option lots of people go with and I can’t say I wasn’t tempted to go that route, but I think this will make for more interesting episodes :)
Yes, but make sure you never take even a single piece of it off inside the irradiated zone. Once you're radiation poisoned, it's permanent until death. Which uh... if you're playing on Hardcore, yeah.

Great vid as always. I do have a question. Do you plan to expand your fission setup sometimes in the future? Especially to a sodium cooled reactor setup? That would be very interesting to watch i think.
Yep, we will be expanding the fission setup, most likely both a larger water cooled one and then moving to the sodium cooled version :) currently the industrial turbine can support a 19.2 mb/t burn rate of fissile fuel so we will at least scale the current water one up to that.
Sodium cooling is not that worth doing. Honestly, its just better to rush fusion reactor since you need more waste. Pros for sodium cooling: 1. You get faster cooling (75% reactor damage drops to 0 in a few seconds where it takes about a few minutes if using water) 2. You get more steam and use less fissile fuel Cons for sodium cooling: 1. You need a crapload of sodium 2. You need to worry about chunk loading (mekanism bug, water or sodium sometimes disappear when unloading the chunk) 3. You produce less waste 4. Its expensive as hell and doesnt pay off the amount of time and resources spent 5. You need another evaporation plant
I usually have some knowledge in general since I’ve played since tekkit was released way back when modded MC was born, after that I read up on wiki info if there is anything specific, play with the machines / multi blocks in a creative world, and lastly I look up bugs on reddit that I can warn people of :)
I think up a cheat that nuclear waste is harmless in the pressurized tube and pressurized tube has their inventory which way larger than waste barrel so just store the waste in the tube.
I think not having enough water is the only way it would explode but I could be wrong. If i has to guess id say maybe the pipes weren't pumping enough in for the size of your reactor so try it with the higher tiers of pipes.
Temperature reaching critical levels is the only possible cause of an actual explosion, which could occur from 1 of 2 things. 1, you don’t have water in the system or 2, you do have water BUT you are burning too much fissile fuel for the water to cool it off. Your cooling method needs to scale with your burn rate otherwise it won’t keep it sufficiently cool and while it may limit the increase rate, it won’t keep the reactor at steady state.
Hey Rage great vid. I have one question about the waste barrels. Before making this I was storing the nuclear waste from the fission reactor in like 5 or 6 barrels but now I have made this and it is all spent nuclear waste. If my fission reactor is off and the barrels and pressurized tubing say "empty" is it safe to get rid of the tanks I dont need?
I will never regret planning to try this way out in the desert. Sure I'm gonna create my own version of Nevada multiple times, but at least my bed will be safe lmao.
It will be completely dependent on your burn rate as the nuclear waste production is determined by fissile fuel being consumed. Even if the reactor is bigger, you’d have to up the burn rate, all the increased size does is increase your max potential burn rate (which if you set it to will product more nuclear waste).
I've got a good amount of waste in my nuclear waste barrel, and it's connected with the Solar neutron activator (pressurized tubes under the activator) however it's not putting waste into the activator. Can you help?
More would be better. They'd burn through fuel at the same rate, but it's easier to cool multiple small ones vs one big one. You can also void excess turbine energy with a resistive heater easily enough, so having multiple turbines won't matter.
I followed what you did, but I'm not getting any pellets... EDIT: you really should make it a tad clearer that it's going to take time to make several polonium pellets
I thought I could move a radiation barrel if I did it in creative. I was wrong. Probably shouldn't have built this in a village. Then I thought I could use the /mek command to clear the radiation and save the villagers. And pets. And farm animals. I was wrong. RIP.
Lol yea once you have radiation poisoning you’re done for, the command will clear the area of radiation but at that point it’s too late for any living thing that wasn’t protected by the mekasuit with radiation upgrades.
oh, no... well thankfully the area that got radiation is and area we avoid unless we have to do reactor stuffs... I will have to talk to the server admin to see if he is willing to clear it.
I have built that same fission reactor as shown in the videos so far... it seems like the nuclearwaste and polonium pellets take forever to produce. I have never made the effort to get this far in Mek so I'm not sure if this is normal or not... Any Thoughts?
Since this is the smallest reactor possible, the polonium does take forever to build up. The turbine is made to handle a reactor that burns 19.2 mb/t of fissile fuel which is 19.2x more than the current, making the polonium production also 19.2x faster. This is obviously contingent on making a larger reactor that can burn that much fissile fuel (any more and it won’t be able to cool itself with the turbine condensation water)
Spent nuclear waste goes to bedrock in my game. To bedrock surrounded by 4 block thick reinforced concrete with the only way in is through a teleporter.
I have the same setup but my polonium production is way slower than yours, any ideas why? Btw AMAZING CONTENT I would have never been able to get to late game without your help. Amazing!
I have a problem the solar neutron activator does not work for me if i hook up the nucular waste it doesent turn into polonium and yes i set the pipe to pull and the activator does fill up and i have it looking at the sky

Oh man I’m sorry :( I know that happened to someone else too. Looks like it just has to be taken as a learning experience as to one of the few sketchy things in Mekanism lol.
16:44 i dont understand what you do ! for me i test in creative this before do this in my game, and i see a "redstone sensibility turned on / off" au cas ou je suis en 1.16.5
Oh gosh I’m sorry :( just short of perfect timing. If it makes ya feel better, it seems the exact same situation happened to someone else who commented.
Rage, I've been going over all your last tuts about mekanism. Have you ever tried sinks instead of waterblock plus pump. It has negated most of the limited input problems I found untill now. It even runs my un/disconnected fission reactor, no problem, when just venting the steam!!!
They kinda go a little overboard. Looking at Mek's setup you'd think that reactor waste is the end of the world but it can be processed into nice clean polonium and plutonium. Meanwhile.... in reality reactor waste usually isn't all THAT radioactive, (yes yes, I know.... 'IT HAS A HALF LIFE OF MILLIONS OF YEARS!!!!!!!!11111oneoneoneZOMG!!!!!!') It has that ultra long half life because it's not all that radioactive. Higher radioactivity = burn through fuel faster. Uranium 235 (reactor and weapons fuel) has a half life of about 700 million years. Radium (found in reactor waste to some degree) has a half life of about 1600 years. Polonium? 140 days. It's radioactive as FUCK.
In the Mekanism world, Polonium pellets are considered to be engineered to be completely stable. So in that sense, yes, buckets of raw polonium chemical and other forms of radioactive waste are much, much worse.
Haha, go figure, right? Kinda crazy you have the stress how dangerous it can be in MC but so many mods don’t make it as dangerous as Mek does and people get complacent.
So in short i share a modded survival world with my sister and while i was setting this up she accidentally broke a pipe because she was decorating the place and thought that it looked ugly at that place so now we cannot get into our base......
I cant make HDPE pellets, it says it needs oxygen and liquid ethylene, but when to go in, they are on different slots so it doesn't do anything. Please help edit: nvm I'm just high on steroids, I forgot power another edit: 7:08, uh OOOppsSS
This new waste mechanic is terrible if you play with other people. I can't build any of the cool stuff now without causing huge lag for other people and putting a massive chunk of server at risk. I wish they had not made the waste so integral to the mod.
if you have a radiation leak or god forbid a meltdown, its not as bad as it seems(size of the reactor depending. mine blew up, a small one, the radius of radiation was not bad to effect other players bases, barely covered mine. and if the chunks are loaded, the radiation will dissipate overnight if the server is on continuously

4. Its expensive as hell and doesnt pay off the amount of time and resources spent
5. You need another evaporation plant
haha, I messed up big time somehow. Skipped the last 3 episode and went ahead to try making these pellets. Alt tabbed to check stuff and heard tnt.
One question, where do you learn about all these mods, do you read them from somewhere or have you learned with time? Greats vids btw!
I usually have some knowledge in general since I’ve played since tekkit was released way back when modded MC was born, after that I read up on wiki info if there is anything specific, play with the machines / multi blocks in a creative world, and lastly I look up bugs on reddit that I can warn people of :)
I’m not an expert in mekanism, but how can you use polonium pellets?
There is hazmat armor you can make and I highly advise you use it when playing in survival especially when play with nuclear waste
I think up a cheat that nuclear waste is harmless in the pressurized tube and pressurized tube has their inventory which way larger than waste barrel so just store the waste in the tube.
What are some of the things that cause meltdown, blown up 3 reactors so far and i’m a bit new to this mod, water wasn’t the issue is all that i know
I think not having enough water is the only way it would explode but I could be wrong.
If my fission reactor is off and the barrels and pressurized tubing say "empty" is it safe to get rid of the tanks I dont need?
it is safe
as long as you know for SURE they are 100% empty then yes
So, How do we pull the ethylene into the pressurizer?
it needs to be a liquid, that means it needs to go into the rotary condensentrator first
I turned my map into chernobyl accidentally LMAO
same
I will never regret planning to try this way out in the desert. Sure I'm gonna create my own version of Nevada multiple times, but at least my bed will be safe lmao.
Good pawer so denger☢🖤❤
Hi! My fission reactor is producing waste pretty slow, about 1 mB/s. Is this a normal speed? My fission reactor is much larger than yours.
It will be completely dependent on your burn rate as the nuclear waste production is determined by fissile fuel being consumed. Even if the reactor is bigger, you’d have to up the burn rate, all the increased size does is increase your max potential burn rate (which if you set it to will product more nuclear waste).
@@RagePlaysGames Thank you!
Hey man, don’t know if you will see this but I could do with a bit info, the solar neutron does see to take nuclear waste for some reason
i accidentaly break the waste barrel and my whole villagers get killed because of the radiation.
hahahahahahahha
Iam late but use /mek radiation clearall and /mek radiation heal this have happend to Mr and it worked
Yeah I was a dumbass and accidentally made my induction matrix into a closed circuit with the reactor and my turbine filled with power.
I've got a good amount of waste in my nuclear waste barrel, and it's connected with the Solar neutron activator (pressurized tubes under the activator) however it's not putting waste into the activator. Can you help?
I wonder what is more effective to produce polonium. More fission reactors or just bigger ones?
What should I do with spent nuclear waste?
7:23 what's the command?
LOL
/mek radiation removeAll
;)
@@wertlos6192 im doing the playthrough again I lost that world :(((((( thanks tho
oh, no... well thankfully the area that got radiation is and area we avoid unless we have to do reactor stuffs...
Amazing!
I have a problem the solar neutron activator does not work for me if i hook up the nucular waste it doesent turn into polonium and yes i set the pipe to pull and the activator does fill up and i have it looking at the sky
what texture pack you are using
How do i make the pellets. I have no idea how to get the ethyline out and where to do it.
if rage made this video just a few hours ago i would not have my base full of rads
i had to go to creative mode just to set different spawn to stop dying
but lucky i had crafted a hazmat suit before
Oh man I’m sorry :( I know that happened to someone else too. Looks like it just has to be taken as a learning experience as to one of the few sketchy things in Mekanism lol.
@@RagePlaysGames its ok now i have it under control
@@RagePlaysGames will you be making antimatter soon?
how do you make lots of pellets my reactor is much bigger than yours and mine is making so much less not sure why ?
What is the command to remove the radioactive gas in the base?
uhm polonium is highly radioactive, one of the most powerful alpha emitters
16:44 i dont understand what you do ! for me i test in creative this before do this in my game, and i see a "redstone sensibility turned on / off"
au cas ou je suis en 1.16.5
My waste barrel overflowed literally one hour before you released this episode.
Oh well... time to move I guess
If you do, make sure you get a way to keep that whole (HUGE) area loaded so that the radiation will continue to dissipate.
@@fashnek Thanks, I didn't consider that!
Oh gosh I’m sorry :( just short of perfect timing. If it makes ya feel better, it seems the exact same situation happened to someone else who commented.
@@RagePlaysGames Sure not your fault. I was checking the temperature and power on a regular basis and the toxic waste just completely slipped my mind.
FUCK YEAH!
I didnt even think of using the gases for power. I did at first when I had hydrogen. Then I just left it as it wasnt producing much power.
mine just doest work. it says i need water and plutonium to make the pelets
How do u have connecting glass?
How you made hope of sheet
what is the command in case of problems ???
saw the poloium was 50 points of radiation and had to break it lucky i had a radioactive suit, my friends gonna hate me XD
My whole sky is green is that air pollution
I love you
What is the command for clearing radiation
/mek radiation removeall ... and to heal /mek radiation heal
Rage, I've been going over all your last tuts about mekanism. Have you ever tried sinks instead of waterblock plus pump. It has negated most of the limited input problems I found untill now. It even runs my un/disconnected fission reactor, no problem, when just venting the steam!!!
Oh I haven’t tried that yet, but I’ll give it a look! Thanks for the suggestion :)
Sinks aren't from the Mekanism mod, and this is the Surviving with Mekanism series
you just skipped over hdpe production?
So you are saying radioactive material is dangerous? 😉🤔👍
@@fashnek Polonium has no stable isotopes. That's not an engineering issue.
In the real world, my head is not shaped like a cube, and skeletons can't wield bows and arrows.
Haha, go figure, right? Kinda crazy you have the stress how dangerous it can be in MC but so many mods don’t make it as dangerous as Mek does and people get complacent.
am here to look for peeps that fked up like i did
WHAT IS THE CMD??? PLZ
/mek radiation removeAll
@@RagePlaysGames it does not work for me
So in short i share a modded survival world with my sister and while i was setting this up she accidentally broke a pipe because she was decorating the place and thought that it looked ugly at that place so now we cannot get into our base......
If you go into creative you can use a command to remove all radiation, it’s something like /mek radiation removeAll or something
@@RagePlaysGames i did some further research and i got it to work thank you! now i can get into my base again xD
1945 , hmm seems suspisous
I cant make HDPE pellets, it says it needs oxygen and liquid ethylene, but when to go in, they are on different slots so it doesn't do anything. Please help
edit: nvm I'm just high on steroids, I forgot power
another edit: 7:08, uh OOOppsSS
I made a backup world cuz i already f up too many times
to remove radiation
/mek radiation clearall
my reactor exploded cuz of waste barrel was filled.. xD
my induction matrix filled max
I broke a waste barrel before starting the video, I hate this
Mfw I just shove all the waste in my RSS
after 28 hours afk it was gone
OI
This new waste mechanic is terrible if you play with other people. I can't build any of the cool stuff now without causing huge lag for other people and putting a massive chunk of server at risk. I wish they had not made the waste so integral to the mod.
if you have a radiation leak or god forbid a meltdown, its not as bad as it seems(size of the reactor depending. mine blew up, a small one, the radius of radiation was not bad to effect other players bases, barely covered mine. and if the chunks are loaded, the radiation will dissipate overnight if the server is on continuously
