Absolutely outstanding place. To come back from Black Saturday is also incredible. Love the pool and the garden sitting against the glass. And the textures. Everything really.
Superior accomplishment Chris both in design and execution giving many decisions were made on the fly. This home will stand both structurally and in design with the best of them! I hope your heart is calm with the completion.
God I hate “modern art”. That so called “painting” I could have farted out after two liters of scotch. I mean if you just want some crap to match your aesthetic, fine but let’s not pretend that is art.
I'm always curious about these builds in the middle of nowhere, how do they sort out their building services ie water, electric, sewage? They never seem to mention it.
This moved me to tears. I cannot believe the awfulness, loss and devastation Australia suffers with the fires that rage through the land from time to time. And what an extraordinary individual, with exquisite vision, Chris is!! To lose his house six days after finishing it ... then turn around and R E B U I L D.... !!!! Truly a Phoenix rising out of the ashes. Both Chris and the house. What an indomitable spirit. This is the most beautiful house I have ever seen (shows about houses are ALL I watch).
It’s hard to catch, but the painting from is uncle, which I thought looked wacky, looks amazing above the dinning room table. It all looked so disconnected, but like Chris said, it will look like it’s been here for 50 years. He just killed the contraction and expansion of the spaces, feeling both at the same time.
By far, one of the most astoundingly unique and beautiful homes I have ever seen. Chris's design rivals Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater. Totally incredible. It has to be amazing living in a home like that! I am so glad for him that he was able to bring the whole cycle to completion and have the peace of mind to know that he has created something that is not going to be lost in a fire again.
After the intro, I was hoping he'll go earth sheltered and covered to get great fire resistance. I fear the new house is still very limited as for fire protection, but taking into account the local climate, it's really well designed and the look and feel is absolutely top class. 👍👏
OMG this is Architectural design as Installation Art. Amazing with an OMG help from Nature, trees Green again Amazing. Blessings to you. From Ireland 🇮🇪 2024.
The weathered/aged patina of the salvaged materials give this stunning custom home a sense of history and permanence. Chris's aesthetic is uniquely his own- what a vision!
Absolutely stunning , it's amazing that he could restore what he could and rebuild onto the burnt house , well done 👏 it's a beautiful piece of art , I'd love to live in this house
he was right about that water tank too - it's gorgeous, free of the constricting wiring that fenced it in. what a magnificent result! in this house i saw how shadow can be a powerful element instrinsic to the shaping of the design. awesome!
I must be more traditional because this looks like a shipping container that wasn't put together just right and there isn't any sense of a cozy and comfortable home. I am happy for him to have what he wants but it's not for me.
One of the best episodes of all including the UK and NZ. A wonderful story of resilience, creativity, and rehabilitation. And the home is a brilliant example of form, function and sustainability.
Such an amazing home. It is a piece of art.
The home is fantastic, but Chris is the true Phoenix. Congratulations on your hard work and determination.
what an amazing home and an incredible person,so much bad luck but hes come through the other end,it truly shows the character of the man.

After hundreds of hours watching Grand Design, I think this is one of the most original and unique creations.
I absolutely agree. Beautiful!
👍🏽 Unlike so any of the “Grand Design” shows that leave me frustrated + wondering why I keep watching... 👏🏽👏🏽great job!
First thing I thought of .. Put a water tank on the roof to protect in the future. He did
I would have love to have this gentleman as a builder.
God I hate “modern art”. That so called “painting” I could have farted out after two liters of scotch. I mean if you just want some crap to match your aesthetic, fine but let’s not pretend that is art.
I think this is one of my favorite grand designs ever. One determined person rising his dream from the ashes.
I love every part of this design. Beautiful home. Would love to see more of this house. Chris is a genius at esthetics.
WOW
