I heard that the Valient was used for training for recruits by not operating the vehicle, but the instructors told the recruits to find as many faults to the tank as possible
All the talk of the Valiant's suspension, mechanicals, and drivers' position is so bad that the deficiencies of fighting compartment are conspicuous by their absence. Is this because the gun and turret worked, or that the previously noted deficiencies were so bad that no one dared enter the fighting compartment?
FYI, the idea of mounting a 30mm auto cannon to a tank for AA defense, was not to actually shoot down the aircraft. Aircraft shock was/is real and has more of an effect on combat than the actual damage caused by the aircraft. The goal was to give the appearance of fighting back as this greatly improves moral, even if the actual combat effectiveness of AA is not that great. The German even developed basic MANPAS that would likely never actually shoot down an aircraft, but the goal was to allow soldiers to at least fire back and feel like they have a defense against aircraft.
I mean the project was seemingly meant to actually shoot down planes but yeah the moral boost was probably a bigger part of the project. Thanks for your input.
The scary thing about the MK108 is that a B17 or B24 was destroyed by, on average, FOUR hits. Single seat aircraft would often break up on the FIRST hit. The MK108 sacrificed muzzle velocity for rate of fire, so the flight path of its tracers would be easily distinguished from lighter weapons, so the MK108 would not only have a morale effect on the tankers, by giving them something to attack back with, it would also have a morale effect on the attacking pilots. I suspect that the main problem of the MK108 was that the effective range was not long enough to engage attacking aircraft before they released their weapons.
Take a look at the Eastern front. Heavily armored storm of the ground attack aircraft and waves of Russian infantry. It would have been appreciated by the German army if they had actually managed to get it to work.
You think the germans were going to stick a whole ass 30mm on a regular tank for the sake of boosting morale? You could do that the American way and just stick a bunch of MGs on top.
The designers of the T18 have clearly only designed dumpsters before, so their experience with designing tanks (or just converting chassis) is very lack luster, i bet they didnt even intend for humans to be inside of it.
In WoT Bliltz, the T18 was so hilariously overpowered for its tier that they actually removed its gun options and any way of acquiring it. I still have it on the old account, though.
The 30mm mk 108 Panther was meant for the Eastern Front, where the Stormivik was a serious problem. It needed to be able to engage T-34s, another major problem on the Easter front.
Honestly the Valiant really wasn’t THAT bad, obviously the prototype that was built had a lot of issues to say the least but really most of the issues could’ve been fixed with a relatively minor redesign, which is pretty typical for first prototypes of a new vehicle design to have these types of issues which doesn’t make the Valiant particularly special in that regard. Heck the early design for it known as the Vickers Vanguard was pretty impressive with a true pike nose front long before IS-3 and it probably would’ve been a solid design if it hadn’t been redesigned with thicker front armour ruining the front slope and straining the suspension
Given how explosive those 30mm rounds have though, I dont doubt itd act as a grenade launcher not unlike the ones the US uses on its Humvees. Except thicker. Probably a bit too thick. Seeing as it was designed for aircraft use and jamming in mind
I don't comment on youtube videos but I felt I should comment on this video, your humor is great and I love the shitposts you put in the videos keep it up and I can't wait to see more
dont take this the wrong way, But I love how you say some things with a "w" sound, because I happen to do the same thing but I also accidentally whistle while making a "th" or "sh" sounds, its nice to see someone else who has to maybe struggle with the same things
Another issue with the MK 108 is that it had a very low barrel velocity, which greatly limited its effective range. It was so low that it forced 262s to engage at such a close range to bombers that pilots had literal seconds to fire before breaking off, lest they collide with their targets.
Although you may have meant this as a joke, that's actually exactly what happened. The Valiant was kept around at a tank design school, and one of the classes involved the students having to look over the Valiant and find all the flaws in its design.
@@minimalbstolerance8113 Now that you said it, I think I remember David Fletcher's moustache talk about it. It was several years ago. Valiant wasn't completely useless after all.
Okay so hear me out, even though the Panther 108 idea isn't the brightest in terms of the role it was meant to serve, I think that 30mm would have otherwise worked as a very good high calibre anti infantry and light vehicle weapon anyways given the Panther itself was facing mostly armoured units, the 30mm would have made it difficult to even hide in a building if you have a auto cannon just breaking the brick into your next tombstone and still backing it is the main gun. I would support the version with the coaxial being the 30mm more...
And that wasn't even a generally accepted British pronunciation of the word "British" - that was Estuary English, a sort of cockney sub-dialect spoken only in London and its immediately adjacent bits, mainly Essex. The rest of Britain pronounces the word properly. Liking what you're doing re duff tanks, though!
Pin me for no reason

That tank has saved so many lives.
I mean hey ya gotta do what you gotta do to get some good tank crew eh?
Got it in one, it survived because it was SO BAD it was useful as a training aid for engineers on how NOT TO DESIGN AN ARMOURED VEHICLE! :D

i play wot blitz too!!! 😂😅
Great list and humour, British Tank design has the same excellence as their contribution to dentistry.

At least the Valentine was a good success as an aid vehicle sent to Russia and successful for Britain a bit
3:46 I about to to search this meme

Same first good recommendation the production quality was so good too
the t18 looks like a awesome edition for war thunder, so many cool tanks not added to wt, why
Incredible public service
Mostly Good work

i got this vid on my recommended page and worth it
what is the game (or atleast i think its a game) shown at 0:40, 3:22, and 5:14 ? it seems like a lot of fun with these obscure vehicles in them
Late Af response, but the game is Men of War 2: Assault Squad with modded tanks
@@qhethacoalspitter8935 so late i've already found out and bought the game 😭 cheers still tho lol
Best content ever 10/10
Thank you, milkman whose milk is delicious.

Perhaps they saved the Valiant to serve as a case study on how not to design a tank.

'MK'= 'Mark.' The Lincoln Motor Company is lying to you.
1:02. OMG that tiny tank turned red ! My My !
The mk 108 would take many internal space on the litle phanter turret.
It has low bullet velocity.
Low penetration.
Found the top of youtube tank content
Warthunder add that panther. In a game that 30mm would be SO useful against planes and light vehicles
Careful... The snail is listening...
I have but one simple question, what game are you demonstrating the vehicles in? Such as the T18
I love how you missed said Bovington
I love being in MD, knowing just how many bad U.S tank designs AND successful tank designs have been throigh here. Awesome. Just... awesome
Dude you deserve more views and subs. Informative and amusing.
Comment for the algo
What game are you using for the visuals?

The 30mm 108 is a more like a grenade launcher. It had poor bullet velocity and low penetration for AP. Mk 103 would be better but is wau larger too
This video is great
Could cause "SERIOUS INJURY" lol
Only ogs remember the t18 gmc from world of tanks WAY back then when it was in the game and was completely broken😅 and what game was the at 0:59
The valiant is so bad that it might as well have been made in a t34 engine
Love it!
what game or who did these vehicle animations?
Men Of War Assault Squad 2. Vehicles were modded in by someone else I just merely repainted them and gave them slightly better sounds.

Videos are great but why so many flickering images? It makes it really hard to watch...
what's the game from 0:55 to 1:05 and the one you used for the panther?
Men of war 2: assault squad
Ha! Subscribing.
Bow-vington?
I know. I was tempted to say it properly, but I figured I would probably make some English folks have to bleach their ears.
What that game he uses um the video?
What game is that by the way.
Have you been to english class by any chance? Its not ponther its panther 😅
What is that tank game in the background
Men Of War Assault Squad 2.
They should rename the Valiant to Ubisoft
3:56 what is that thing?
Hütter Hü-136
not my boi t18!
3:55 what the hell is that? XDDD
It's a really cursed plane called the Hütter Hü 136.
M-kay? Don't you mean "mark"?
The worst don’t you mean the best worst designs
