Quite useful! I have a similar story, went from a non-CS background to a PhD in CS to a 200k+ job in one of the big four consulting firms! But left it all to pursue my passion which is teaching :)
Datascience Concepts If your passion is teaching..... if you haven’t already, consider platforms such as skills share, teachable, udemy, etc. Uploading courses on these platforms could be a great way earning passive income. Best wishes to you
Wow, that's amazing! I'm a teacher thinking of leaving the profession because of the lack of respect and pay for teachers. I love what I do, but it doesn't pay enough to have a family.
Data science concepts, I subscribed to your channel. Could you take about your transition from non CS background to machine learning? I'd be really helpful and inspiring for me.
Currently going through the web dev program from Codecademy on the first section of JavaScript. I went to a coding boot camp and 2019 and took about 9 months off after struggling to find a job in the field. This video helped me get back on the horse and I’m 8 days in on #100Daysofcode!
Yay! I'm so glad you've rediscovered your passion! There's always frustration when learning new programming concepts but once it "clicks", you'll be glad you stuck with it! Best of luck!
Thank you so much! You saved me from going to study 4 years without knowing if i was going to like this carrier! Now i can take the codecademy course before making a huge decision .. so thank you !!! ❤️❤️
I'm here because I love technology. I want to stay updated . & learn. .... more. So thanks. Empowerment to us ladies . Don't see many of us in this field .
I've always struggled to find jobs that paid me enough money to live on. For years now, I've thought about becoming a web developer. after watching this video, I'm inspired to take the plunge and change my life. Thanks so much for sharing this.
I don't think any video has spoken to me the way this did. I kept saying "MEEEEEE" in my head for EVERYTHING from missing a semi-colon, to giving up because nothing is working, and most importantly losing interest because I could't see how things connect in a real situation. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, I really hope this works for me like it did for you. I need this to work.
I'm glad you found my video! It is very scary at first. I wasted so many days practicing HTML and then stopping for months then doing another day and stopping again. You have to pick something and go for it! No risk = No reward! I find that I only ever regret the chances not taken! I can't wait to hear back about your success! 😊
Omg, this was insanely inspiring, I'm currently doing a masters in Regenerative medicine, but it does not have my interest like coding does and I know what passion is key in a fulfilling career. I will learn the basics and then do a paid course. Thank you for this video :)
So inspiring! I was using the quarantine time to learn as much as I could before returning back to my orthodontic job. I applied to a boot camp and was told that I’ve been accepted! I’m giving my notice to quit my job so I can start boot camp!! Love this video because it shows it’s possible!!
Thank You. I really needed to see this. I worked as a network administrator for eight years that i truly enjoyed, but knew that i wanted to break off into my own path. I've been back and forth with coding aspects of Java, Python, CSS....and like you, i found myself not as driven as i first set out to be. So coding has always been something i knew i ultimately was going to venture into but i just couldn't put my finger on which type of coding i wanted to do. Watching this video of your journey to accomplishing your goal through CodeCademy sparked that drive that i needed to start this journey. And this time...I will finish the journey!! Again, thank you!

@@rahuljoshi8331 i mean, isnt this what a coding bootcamp does? 12ish weeks full of projects and lessons to get someone into the workforce quickly and efficiently
Well this video came into my feed in an interesting time. I just quit my job (after 10 years) and ditched my apartment to live like a... well student I guess, and sacrificing pretty much everything to get into coding, with codecademy as my main course for all the basics I need for front end developing :) There is no turning back now, all or nothing. here we go. Your video did calm me a bit though, feels good to know it's doable.
How’s it going now Jonathan? I also left my career of 10+ years and took a semester of programming now hopped on codecademy pro a month ago and finished html, css, and JavaScript! Now almost done with intermediate JavaScript then onto command line, Git, and then to finish the full stack developer course!
@@ToddsDiscGolf Well, all things considered, its going well at the moment. I’m starting to get a good grasp of javascript and all it’s concepts. I have played around a lot with github, node.js, and some API calls. I’m doing the front end path on CodeCademy and it’s fun! With that said, there has also been moments where I feel like maybe this is not for me, then I solve the problem and feel empowered again :p I’ve learnt that if I just break down the problems and solve one line at the time, it works out in the end :)
@@KimComplete Well, I just finished my first month as a front-end developer 😁 It was the second job I applied for, and somehow I ended up developing mobile applications in react native. But it's fun and I'm learning so much everyday right now! I also already made my first major f---up relating to a big release :) So basically I ended up only doing about 60% of the course on codecademy, then I started solving "real" problems from mock assignments my developer friend gave me. And I think that really boosted my debugging and developing skills to get me ready for the real world. Anyways I made it! And thanks for giving me inspiration through the darker times 😊 I have learned that I'm not alone thinking maybe this isn't for me, maybe I'm just not smart enough etc. Perseverance is key. Btw, if anyone is wondering, the learning process took about 6,5 months before I felt ready to apply for jobs. Well actually I didn't feel ready, but I felt I couldn't really learn any more effectively without actually working with it . I must also say that codecademy really taught me really good lessons, aside from coding. Like using git, branching, coding conventions, how to think when solving problems and other stuff that would really stall you otherwise when you start working in a team of other coders.
Good job! I'm about to start my journey to be a web developer as well as I'm working for a well known Electric Car company that I desperately won't to get out of. Gives me more motivation to do this!

The codecademy pro sounds really cool. Currently I'm doing only the free introductions to HTML, CSS and JavaScript, but as soon as I'll be able to afford the pro version, I'm gonna do that cos I'm really loving it so far. I've thought about choosing a different career path than what my field is for a while now but the whole covid situation made me really think aboutthe fact that I want a job that I could do from home, or that I wouldn't lose so easily.

Thank you for your video, its really encouraging. Yesterday, I was googling for a career that will pay well in the long run and I came across with web develop, and I remember I took a course in programing long time ago that I enjoy so much and I was good at it. At 41. I am pretty much freaking out at the prospect of starting over. But I need to because I am going no where fast. And need to provide. Thanks for the point in the right direction and the hope.
I understand. Starting over at any point in life is scary. However, everyone has to start somewhere and it doesn't take you long to get into it if you really prioritize studying. Can't wait to hear back in 3 months about where you are on your journey!

Glad it helped! I noticed a discouraging comment above and I just want to say that a professor of mine in College literally told me that same exact thing and told me I would hate being a programmer because I would never have a life. That was SO FALSE. If I had listened to his terrible experience, I would have never began my journey. I work a typical 8-10 hour day and then I come home to my family. The only reason I don't do much more studying outside of work is because I have 2 kids and I put them first always. But it is VERY possible!!!!!!
Thank you for sharing! I`m currently studying Digital arts and my WD teacher told us that we won`t become developers after learning coding in 2 years that we have to finish the degree, we can only achieve some kind of understanding how WD works. However, I realized that I am much more interested in development than in design, so I`m doing my best to have a job that I love after graduating! Thank you for telling your story and giving me more motivation, I was pretty frustrated after hearing the things our teacher said
I 100% understand! One of my college professors told me I would not want to be a programmer for all the reasons that he quit doing it. He urged me to forget about it and that it was too hard and unfulfilling. It's really sad how done adults really try to ruin younger generations because they got hurt. Just do what works for you. Pick your passion and give it your all! Live for you and you'll never regret it

You said that in almost 3 months you have learned to become a Wed Developer. Also you mentioned about Html and Css, but never heard you about Java Script. Were you able to learn JS also in a total of 3 months or just HTML and CSS? Did you learn after or you found a job as Web Developer only with HTML and CSS? I believe many people will be interested to know this information. Thanks a lot 🙏
Hello! Thanks for following up! The course did have a little bit of JavaScript in it but it was mostly HTML and CSS. I took a free JavaScript course also from CodeCademy and the free Mozilla MDN course to learn the basics and it was all I needed for the job I was in. Anything else I needed for a job I learned while working and my team helped me. I hope this was useful!
Cantari Crestine Sunt nou in domeniu, am inceput sa studiez de 2 luni insa nu aloc un anumit numar de ore in fiecare zi. Sunt zile in care pot invata 2-3 ore, sunt zile in care nu invat deloc, pentru ca si lucrez (domeniu diferit). Tu esti deja in domeniu? Ai inceput sa practici?
Thanks for taking the time to make this video! I'm in the same shoes you were in. I went through W3 Schools, Treehouse, and the free version Codecademy a couple of years ago just out of curiosity. Now I'm looking for a career change and taking a serious look at the Codecademy Pro intensive course!
I'm glad to hear you can relate. Please note that this video is a couple years old and the course on Codecademy has changed. It is no longer a single Pro Intensive class. It is pretty much the same content but now it is structured as a series of smaller courses, all available with their monthly Pro account, that you take in a specific order as mapped out by their "Learning Path". You might have to search the catalog well to find it. It should still be called "Build Websites From Scratch". I hope this helps. Can't wait to hear back about your first developer job!
i wish i could've got a job after my course. I also left my job to work on doing a 12 week programme in cloud computing but the only problem is that i struggled with jobs and interview my program offered and i honestly feel like being a devops engineer isn't for me (as more of a creative individual). I now just started a front-end and I hope to get a career out of it Edit: also it didnt help that COVID-19 and lockdown happened right after i finished my course so its become even harder to find a job
I understand that it is rough but I would encourage you to look at these setbacks as tests of your perseverance and resilience. Both are needed to manifest your dreams and your hard work will pay off in the end. Best of luck! Stay strong! 💜
I'm very inspired by your story. I love what I do but it doesn't pay enough. I'm barely getting by and I want to buy a house in the near future. I've dabbled in web design but I find I like coding better. I have been researching where to get Web Dev training and I think I'll look into Codecademy now because of you.😊 Thanks for sharing!
Hey Kim!, wow what a great story! im in the same situation currently, i quit my job because i completely lost passion for it, and recently decided that I want to become a Software Engineer/ Web Developer (not sure if they are the same thing...shows my level of knowledge on the subject lol) but I wanted to know if you think i should take Codeacademy right away....or if there was material i should read before! thank you for the great content, its nice to be a new subscriber and look forward to more content!
I would recommend to get more background information on the jobs and tech scene in general. See what the different between Software Engineer/Web Developer is and look over job descriptions to see if you feel one type of job would be better for you and then you can focus on learning those things that employers are looking for. Best of luck!

Hi Kim, This is really motivated. After a long period of struggle into my life (personal and professional), I believe I finally found my career path with coding (preferably front-end/web design). I have recently started learning and I would like a little push but haven’t find the right option for me at the moment. This video definitely help me stay motivated! How to integrate you projects into a portfolio (when we consider your projects aren’t live website yet) Thank you so much 😘
Thank you very much for making a video about your pathway into FED, I have tried quite a few resources, mostly video ones and some text based, and really struggled to memorise concepts and basis of syntax, but since I went on the 7 day trial with Codecademy's Pro course in FED I'm really gaining knowledge and managing to memorise lots more than before. I think they really nailed the way the course is presented. Thanks!
How did you manage to get a job with no experience? I’ve been struggling for a year since my entire professional background is in another field. I list my personal web development experience first, but they don’t seem to care because none of that experience is professional. Not to mention that all the “junior” positions out there require 2+ years experience smh
It is not easy, I get it. I got my degree in 2012 and didn't get my first tech job until 2017 so I feel your pain. It's hard to break into the tech scene but there are always beginner positions opening up. You just have to keep searching and keep applying as rough as it may be. Best of luck!

This seems to me like a CodeCademy commercial. Trashing Treehouse in order to praise other website, and right from the start story is directed to buy pro membership, the reason is there is tons of these so called self tought devs. I will tell you to anyone out there who really wants to learn, learning HTML and CSS is easy, after if you want to take webdev route, and after that take Javascript, prepare yourself to work just in that language for about a year, then consider to take some of the frameworks. Javascript will kick you in the guts. Don't believe in this scams. It's for the reason that we are paid that much money. Somebody give you a job in Javascript after you learn everything in 3 months, LOL !!!! With all due respect lady, spare me !!!!
Hmm, not sure what video you watched. Treehouse just didn't work for me, that was my personal experience. I mentioned in the title what platform I would be going in depth about, full transparency. I got a Jr Level position that didn't require much. Since then, I have learned JavaScript on the job over the years. I never said you become an expert in 3 months. But I did get a Junior Level job, and this is how.
Thank you for this video! I've been researching tools and resources to start my web development career journey, and your message really resonated with me.

Quite useful! I have a similar story, went from a non-CS background to a PhD in CS to a 200k+ job in one of the big four consulting firms! But left it all to pursue my passion which is teaching :)
That's amazing. Always do what makes your heart happy! Even if it doesn't pay as well. Thanks for sharing your testimony!

Best of luck! If you have a passion for it, you'll do really well. I believe if you don't love it, it will get frustrating rather quickly.
Briana how did it go?
I don't think any video has spoken to me the way this did. I kept saying "MEEEEEE" in my head for EVERYTHING from missing a semi-colon, to giving up because nothing is working, and most importantly losing interest because I could't see how things connect in a real situation. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, I really hope this works for me like it did for you. I need this to work.
I truly aim to be as relatable and transparent as possible, that's the only way to really share your journey. If I can do it, so can you - good luck!
Thank you so much to share your story!! very Inspired by you. I've being struggling with 'taking the risk'.
I'm glad you found my video! It is very scary at first. I wasted so many days practicing HTML and then stopping for months then doing another day and stopping again. You have to pick something and go for it! No risk = No reward!

So inspiring! I was using the quarantine time to learn as much as I could before returning back to my orthodontic job. I applied to a boot camp and was told that I’ve been accepted! I’m giving my notice to quit my job so I can start boot camp!! Love this video because it shows it’s possible!!

So nice to see another woman in coding! I am a very new beginner. The Come Up and videos like yours encourages me to not quit

2020: how I became a developer in 2 months
2030: how I became a hacker in 5 minutes
Technology is accelerating at an exceptional rate, why shouldn't our learning? You joke, but it might just happen!
2040 how become red coder in 1 minute lolz. These videos man. Isolation and trasaction processing alone takes months to properly grasp. Lets not even get into operating systems kernels, threads, locks, semaphore etc. Dude, maybe I'm dumb as fuck. Maybe im -50 IQ which is why I think 3 months is basically impossible unless you're lying to your audience or to yourself.
She is lying obviously. It's a sponsored video from code academy.

I am so excited for your journey, please promise you'll keep me updated! I am more frequently on instagram. If you have that, follow me @Kimcomplete_
I also already made my first major f---up relating to a big release :)
So basically I ended up only doing about 60% of the course on codecademy, then I started solving "real" problems from mock assignments my developer friend gave me.
This video really boost my spirit on learning more deeply into web developer. Congratulations for your job offer! :)
Good job! I'm about to start my journey to be a web developer as well as I'm working for a well known Electric Car company that I desperately won't to get out of. Gives me more motivation to do this!

Yes, Adrian Java Script, Python and SQL. Everything, then you represent the whole package.
Adrian Balasa Adrian-ai inceput vreun curs? Sau esti deja vechi in acest domeniu?

How did you manage to get a job with no experience? I’ve been struggling for a year since my entire professional background is in another field. I list my personal web development experience first, but they don’t seem to care because none of that experience is professional. Not to mention that all the “junior” positions out there require 2+ years experience smh

3 Months LoL
Thank you for this video! I've been researching tools and resources to start my web development career journey, and your message really resonated with me.
I went through the same thing a few years ago. Started out with C# at a local college and found it interesting at first but lost interest I guess when things started to get overwhelming and I kinda just put off until whenever I got another chance. I got a job in customer service and have been doing that for the passed 5 years. Due to the Covid-19 lockdown I decided to get back into it. Started 2weeks ago with html and CSS. So far so good👌 Thanks for all the great content and sharing your journey🙏🙏
Sounds like you're on my same path!! Set a goal, work hard, and let me know when you manifest that dream! Best of luck!
Totally unrelated, but: you are beauuuttiffullll. Also, your curls are popping!
Thanks so much for this video
Thank you so much for spreading this positivity and give me LIFE! lol
Amazing testimony. I suppose I will have to take a look to CodeCademy too.
Thank you again.
