    *Another way to see if your work is symmetrical is to put it infront of a mirror. Because your eye sees the design for presumably many hours, seeing it infront of a mirror highlights to your brain big difference and noticable assymetrical parts. Works for me

    • @SciFiArtman
      @SciFiArtman 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, mirrors can give amazing new perspectives on virtually all art processes. Much like walking away for a bit and returning with fresh ears in music production. New ways of seeing the same art is always beneficial, IMO.
      But then again, maybe too much focus is given to symmetry! (like the face half mirrored compared to reality). A little subtle asymmetry is also pretty golden!

    LONG LONG time ago, i ordered WED Clay online and paid out the ASS for the Shipping just so i could try it out, cause i heard so many awesome things about it, got it in the mail and i HATED IT... i asked myself "how on earth can anyone make amazing masks outta this shit!? it dries out so fast, it cracks all to pieces, it cant hold Detail" so i threw it out in the yard in disgust.. well about 10 or 15 years later i saw this and i was like "ive grown a LOT as a Sculptor and an artist in General.. i was young when i tried it, im gonna try it again" so i bought some and it's FANTASTIC, one of the most enjoyable sculpting mediums ive ever used, and ive used them ALL *though i still love Monster Clay and Castilene more, especially for small figures/toys/Maquettes" but come to find out, the people who sold me the "Wed Clay" Back then... actually had SCAMMED ME. they sold me fucking POTTERY CLAY and called it WED Clay. so its no fucking wonder i hated it for sculpting! so my advice is two fold. if you think you hate something or cant use it well, try again later on in life, you might find out you LOVE IT later on.. or that you was simply lied too somehow. if i had not saw this video and try it out again, id have missed out on such a fun Medium.

    • @altrightknight7661
      @altrightknight7661 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Best thing you can do if you're going for SPFX is to learn Z-Brush or one of those 3D sculpting programs. Clay sculpture is on its way out sadly.. though some people will always be there to buy masks sculpted traditionally. but not as many as we'd like sadly. if i could learn Z-Brush i would, but i think im too stupid to figure it out lol

    Great vid and sculpt. Maybe you could help me with some advice, but I'm looking to turn my wife into Medusa for halloween, but I don't want all the snakes just hanging off her head. I want some coiled and posed, but how can I mount them so that'll work? I plan to do a forehead prosthetic that moves up into the first row of snakes, but what could I use to mount the snakes around the rest of her head?

    I enjoyed the footage and the information contained within the video but the sound effects and ambient music was very generic and unoriginal. Many of the audio files are common and come with video editing systems. My suggestion would be get a wider variety of royalty free sound effects, stingers, etc that will make your tutorials stand out and be more original. Great work on the sculpt. I am an editor if you would like some editing and sound design tips. Best,George

    I've only done computer modelling with Mudbox, zbrush, Rhino 3D, and other modelling software, but have wanted to try actual, physical character modelling with clay. I know everyone has their own opinion on how to do things, but I honestly want to know your opinion if I should start with WED clay vs the other options. I know water based clay dries quickly. I think my early attempts at this will take weeks/months/hopefully not decades! trying to model life-sized humanoid shaped heads, with major "alien" type features. I will have to make a "basic" mold of my head (or a head) to build/sculpt up onto, I'm guessing. I'd love some input, if you have time.
