And no, it's NOT dangerous. Make sure you use THIN sheets of PLASTER GAUZE ON YOUR FACE, and a very small amount of it. But DO NOT use regular plaster mix on your skin casue it may get too hot when it sets :)
Just did a face cast with this tutorial! It's super easy but I would suggest wearing a bald cap or swim cap to extend the plaster further as the cast can become a little skinny and shallow! I've seen conversations about alginate but this application is super easy for a beginner like me
Omg. I did this last night and MAN I wish I face planted the Vaseline instead of just putting it on my brows and under eye area. It came off easily where I had Vaseline.. but as for the rest of my face, it hurt. And it did not want to come off no matter how hard I tried. I basically just had to rip it off. A couple things: I covered my hair with plastic wrap and kept it in place on my forehead using liquid latex as an adhesive-I don’t think it’s worth risking your hair falling into the plaster. And this video made it look so easy but taking it off did not go that smoothly for me at all. I’m very happy to have my own face cast but there has to be a better way of doing this. Maybe covering your whole face in Vaseline would help the mask come off? Idk good luck >.
Lauren Bennett yeah, when I took mine off I nearly broke mine completely. Luckily, I managed to save it. Putting the mixture into the face cast was also different. When it got to the creamy texture it began to dry quickly so hopefully when I take it out there won’t be any lumps, but the back does look lumpy. Maybe I could sand it so it’s smooth
Tanya Yexley Okay I’ve learned a ton since then. Never put plaster bandages directly on your skin. Use alginate to take the impression of all the details of your face or whatever you’re lifecasting-it’s not only safe for your skin but captures way more detail than the method in this video. Then you put the plaster bandages over the alginate to give it a shell to hold its shape, and pour your hydrocal into that after you pop the alginate and bandage shell off your face (which actually comes off smoothly). When I went to Monsterpalooza and told some people what I did following this video, they said “don’t ever do that again. You’re lucky you didn’t lose your face.”
This is such a good tutorial!! Thank you so much! Any other face cast tutorial I've seen involves at least 2 people and the one with the cast on has to sit with their face and eyes covered completely for at least 20 minutes. Now I can do it myself! Thank you ❤️
Just created my face cast using this tutorial!!! Waiting for it to set overnight and can't wait to play!! I LOVE THIS CHANNEL!!! XOXO - Beauty By Lydia B
@@songbird2614 no ! the plaster gauze is kinda like a paper mask- paper and glue and is very relaxing if someone is doing it on you :) just remember to cover whole face and some hair with vaseline. Latex prostetics can hurt on baby hairs not plaster gauze :D
This worked amazingly! I vaselined my whole face and I'm glad that I did! It came off fairly easily! I'm trying to do ellimacs Medusa so I need a face cast to so the prosthetics. Glad I looked for other videos because this one is the easiest one I found! And cheapest! Only cost me about $10 in supplies (Michael's half off one item coupon).
I wish Macs was more specific about how to cover your face properly. I didn't go all the way under my chin because I didn't realize I needed to. I love Ellimacs but please don't glaze over the details!😁
I'm going to start posting you on my FB page. More people need to know about you and Macs. I have been following you guys for about 3 years now and you never cease to make me smile! Macs, more talking, babe!
This works for me, I've used it for half casts and a full cast but I suggest instead of going out and buying all these expensive things to stop it actually hurting your skin just to cover your face in Vaseline, works for me and my cousin who gets stuck with me sticking stuff to her face
Awesome I broke my last one because I didn't apply glue and I had hell of time getting bandages off cuz I didn't use oil what kinda of oil baby oil.. Please tell me next tutorial your gonna shows how to use face cast to mold... You guys rock :) :) :)
***** We're filming the next tutorial tomorrow, and we will most likely be using the face cast yes ;) You can see it on Periscope tomorrow when we live broadcast a preview. @ellimacsSFX is us there too.
Hi!!!! i love your work so much, it inspired me to try to make a face cast of my own. So far i have everything i need but my biggest concern is the oil i purchased... from a grocery store lol OLIVE OIL. Im not sure if this is the correct oil to use to remove the face mold from the face cast. Please help! Love you!
Thanku soo much for this tutorial! I'm making three on the weekend for me, my little brother and my sister. I'm only 13 so I have alot to learn. .i'm also going to try ur false teeth one , the fake eye and some other cool stuff u guys have posted up!my dream is to one day become an sfx /makup artist but being in Australia its gunna be hard lol
thanks so much for posting this video! it helps a lot and I love every video you post! I was wondering what oil do you use like baby oil or something else? oh and what else could you use other than wood glue?
Vart skulle du föreslå att man går för att handla sakerna för det här, och vad är shopping listan? Also, Älskar att det finns en så awesome SFX artist på youtube. Så roligt med alla tidbits!
hii, ellinor, im a new beginner self taught visual effect artist. im just wonderring, do u dip plaster gauze into liquid latex which u apply on your face? did u mix liquid latex with water or anything too? hey just want to say that i really love your videos and tutorials, the steps is really clear. i hope u wont mind if u can list down some brands or product name for us in order to let us know which type we should get to avoid using the wrong one or some that is unsuitable for use on the skin :) and sometime it is really troublesome that my country didnt sell some kind of product that u used :( will be appreciate to that :) keep it up to u ellinor ! really love your turorial
This video was really useful as im just getting into sfx makeup myself and was looking for a way to make a face cast for myself without all the fancy nonsense, but this was great because I have some plaster gauze! Also what oil did you use to prevent the liquid plaster from sticking to the plaster gauze?
Hey Elli and Mac....you should use the face cast and do a halloween version of Pavi from Repo! The Genetic Opera. That kept going thru my head the whole time watching this lol :)
Questions: 1. what type of oil did u use for the finished dried casting face??? Did u use the Vaseline for the whole face or just only the eyebrows to cover??? Cuz I like to make that on my own when I get home from the trip. 👍👍👍💖💖💖🎨🎨🎨
Ellie + that dress = great video, no matter the content. She could be sitting there in that dress watching the grass grow, and I'm fine with it. Heh! Seriously, though, nice tutorial and nice camera work, Macs.

Now I really want to do this... I always kind of thought you needed the gum cast stuff they use professionally... But this sounds awesome. Thanky ou very much! Btw plaster is the same word in German and swedish ^^
I noticed that the inside of yours looks super smooth. I tried this and mine had the weave marks of the gauze. Was my gauze just different or did you maybe coat your inside with something? My plastered face ended up having markings from the threads.
I thought I could buy it at the store so I was searching all over for the masks, then I thought what if the mask cant fit me? then I remember I subscribed to you then I found this video, it was very helpful!
Jd Bryant Literally the same exact thing happened to me. I'm sure it's too late now but once my plaster mixture was somewhat hardened, I peeled the gauze off and it worked just fine
The other tutorials looks so scary. They cover thick layer on their faces and struggle to remove it. This one looks easy :) thank you for sharing this tutorial. Definitely doing this one
On the actual face cast (the part u mixed half water half plaster) did u use regular plaster or plaster gause like when u did the face mold? Sorry if I misspelled it. And love your work!
I wanna do this and paint it exactly like me and get a scarecrow body and just have it sitting on the sofa or looking out of the window when I leave the house 😂

Its cool you did a tutorial on how to do this!
I will make sure to do this in the future!
Great video!👍👍👍

OhMyGod I'd be too worried about ripping my eyebrows off!! Haha, even with the Vaseline applied :O
Deanna Waters don't worry I tried it and I still have my brows and my eyelashes :)
Oh good!! Hahaha might give it a try now
Deanna Waters you can use cling wrap on your eyebrows. That's what I did and I still have my eyebrows.
Deanna Waters a little bit of my eye brow came off but it's hard to tell 😂 cause I just did this rn
I sooo enjoy your channel guys I'm glad I founded. you are so talented. Thanks for a great content
Can you list the products pleaaaaaaaaaase???
@The Brothers Sebas & Leo English please?

Hej och tack för en superbra tutorial! Är det gipsbinda du använder i första steget? Hur mycket använde du ungefär? Tack!!

Any oil can be used or vaseline. You can use modge podge glue or just any kind of glue should be ok. I usually use modge podge.

Hey,
Did you have to wait until the cast was completely dry before filling it with the craft plaster? Currently in mid-process of creating this 😊
I might use this if I can't get some body double! The only trick would be getting my whole head and neck casted but I'm sure this technique will work!

Its funny, how some Swedish Words are similar to german words.
to Polish too
They both belong to the germanic branch.
Because ya’ll are like 4 hours away 😑 you used to be one giant nation ahaha
Sweet thank you! I thought I had to go somewhere to get this done. But I can actually do it myself with easy to find stuff. :D

Could you just make a 3D print of your face using the Face ID tool on your smartphone and then transferring that to CAD to print, finishing off with sanding it? It would be made of plastic, which I’m worried might be a problem.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS!!
I like your videos a lot
@@mariofernandez2003 which one?
Thanks for the vid.
I just saw you over on mykies.
adia wyatt lo im always on mykies
Rj Davila same
Rj Davila No problem =)
Lol I wanted to make the nyx face awards monster and this will help me a lot !!!!
I’m terrified of doing this, because while waiting for the plaster to dry on my face, my family’s gonna make me laugh and I’m probably gonna ruin it
At 1:41 did Ellie purchase that skull with the horns? Or did she make it?
Do you have a product list for everything you need from start to finish to create One?
Okay, I understood the swedish version more. :D I was like what the heck is plaster (i googled it at the end of the video) than you said it's gips and in that moment everything finally made sense to me. :D It's gipsz in hungarian btw.
Amazing how similar the Swedish to the German words are! :D Great video btw!
What type of plaster powder do you use to pour into your plaster gauze mask? Any recommendations?
Great vid really helpful 😀😀
