    I'v been watching your videos for quite a while now and I think this is the best one you've done so far.

    • @TheWoodKnight

      It's just a XPS (I think) insulation foam board from Bunnings (big box store). 1200x600-ish panels, in 25 and 32mm thicknesses. I have three boards so I can cover 3/4's of a full size sheet of plywood

  • @JevanHorn

    I am finally getting around to making these. Thank you for the free plans and awesome instructional video, it will all be super helpful. Since I mainly work in imperial measurement is there anything I need to consider when doing the conversion on the plans from the provided metric?

    • @TheWoodKnight
      @TheWoodKnight  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If it was decimal imperial, straight conversion would be fine, but for fractional you might need to fudge some of the numbers to make them easier to cut/layout.
      For example, 40mm legs would be 1-37/64″, but if you drop them to 38mm, that'd be 1-1/2". I'm not sure if it'd be best to convert then round up or down, or the other way a round.
      The top you can make 1" thick, shelf is 1/2"
      Rather than the method I used in this video, I'd recommend making a quick drawing bow for the curves like in this video -> th-cam.com/video/WtFsEBUeD9o/w-d-xo.html

    • @JevanHorn

  • @daverowe5351
    @daverowe5351 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Excellent plans and project Paul - question is that rough stock you started with 8/4 quarter sawn?

    • @TheWoodKnight
      @TheWoodKnight  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Some of it was quartersawn, the majority was rift saw. The stock I buy is actually meant for the construction industry - kiln dried, but just machine graded for structural properties, not for appearance. Thats what all the weird red marks are on the faces to start with! The stock was 140x45mm rough-ish (its 'rough, but not super rough'), which is a hair under 6" wide, 8/4 thick.
      As a side note, here in Australia "proper" rough sawn stock is still sold in essentially metric versions of standard US sizes - 150x50mm or 8/4, then x38mm (6/4)!

      @@TheWoodKnight sorry last question - I am building this table now - I don't have a Domino but planning to use router and make my loose tenon but that is a small tenon - what size did you use? 4mm or 5mm?

    • @TheWoodKnight
      @TheWoodKnight  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@daverowe5351 I used the 4mm domino cutter, but thats purely because I've got a whooooole stack of them. 4/5/6mm would have all worked.
      For the small tenon, I probably wouldn't bother with loose tenons but just make them integral and use a dado stack. For the mortise, if you've got a 1/8" router bit, you could use that, but 1/4" would work too. They're not structural, 00 sized biscuits might even work!

    • @TheWoodKnight
      @TheWoodKnight  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This is already a pretty long video, explaining every alternative every time would make things balloon out pretty quickly!
      Luckily I have covered using a router & dado stack to do mortise and tenon before th-cam.com/video/0sWuwHtAqtQ/w-d-xo.html
      If I'm able to arrange it, I'm hoping to visit somewhere early next year, with a hollow chisel mortiser and doweling jig to do a more complete alternative round up.

    • @TheWoodKnight
      @TheWoodKnight  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just an update on this - I'll be hopefully visiting a store later this month to look at three tool alternatives, plus two at home (router+dado stack, router table). Just takes time to arrange things, shoot and edit video :)

If you are remotely capable of building furniture you wouldn't be bitching at the tools the content creators used, you would enjoy the content, learn a thing or two, download the FREE PLANS, and go build something.
