I am an Australian ex-military serviceman. When the Water Diviner came out, Russell copped a LOT of Flack in Australia for it. But it was a brilliant take on a war Australia and New Zealand fall just short of celebrating. In one interview Russell absolutely nailed it. He said people forget that during the battle of Gallipoli, WE were the invaders. And he was dead right.
LA Confidential is one of the greatest films ever made. Everything about it - the cast, the script, the style, the story - is incredible. It's such an underrated gem.
Hello from Gail in Oz. L A Confidential is a masterpiece of film making; so many (well, 2 anyway) Aussie actors. One of the rare situations where the film exceeded the excellence of the wonderful book. @@russelliracrowe1648 NB. Master & Commander was a slow fabulous burn too. What a ripper legacy of films you've starred in!. Thank you!
His run of films early in his career is absolutely insane. The Insider, LA Confidential, Gladiator, Master & Commander, and Beautiful Mind. All in like a 5 or 6 year span. Legend.
Don’t let this distract you from the fact that this guy delivered a number of Oscar worthy performances such as Insider, Master and commander, LA Confidential, A beautiful mind
The greatest performance for me that Russell did was the Insider. It's an astonishing thing to see him as the middle aged, very typical businessman, Jeffrey Wiegand who actually helped change the world and was one of the bravest people you could possible imagine. He was not overshadowed by Al Pacino in that movie, he was actually the best performer in it.
Such a great, underrated Michael Mann film. Eric Roth wrote the script which is excellent. Real formative movie for me growing up. Russell’s mannerisms and cadence in The Insider were unique. Pacino was fantastic in this. Christopher Plummer as Mike Wallace too.
Agreed. I found it compelling enough that I often used the Lowell Bergmann speech as an audition. I finally recorded my own version of it somewhere in late 2019. To this day, it's unbelievable as to the lengths Brown & Williams went to do harm to millions of human beings. 😕 So weird to think that there are (and have been) hundreds of psychos like them walking the planet every day for thousands of years. 🤮
He looks so down to earth so without any attitude, yet he is such a versatile actor and puts everything in it! To me definitely awesome! Love him! Great sense of humor too which is great!❤❤
Crowe's most impressive role--from my perspective--was portraying Jeffrey Wigand. Yes, obviously, he's been bloody fantastic in just about every film he's been in, but "The Insider" just did not get enough attention. Not simply because of the subject material, but because of the lengths to which Crowe went in order to accurately "become" Wigand. Unbelievable work.
Now I'm totally sold on Mr Russell Crowe! ..... AGREED OUR GLORIOUS DEAD SHOULD BE FOREVER HONORED AND REVERED FOR THEIR SACRIFICE WHICH LEAD TO THE FREEDOM WE ALL ENJOY❤🙏

RUSSELL is one of the most INTERESTING, ELOQUENT, HUMOROUS person I have ever seen in interviews. He seems to be a real person, not just another self-absorbed actor.
I've appreciated all his performances, but my favourite film was Master and Commander; there's something about those tall ships, the sea, and the men who sailed in them.
I love his earlier work. Amazing career. Can’t believe how much weight he’s picked up in the past 10 years. Hell of an actor. Russel in Gladiator and Kirk Douglas in Spartacus are two of my all time favorite films.
I'm pretty sure this man simply decided to enjoy life. It's his choice which everyone should respect. Even more so when a Hollywood star refuses to give in to industry's pressure. Personally, I prefer his current look much more than the artificial look of other actors.
Surprising that you don’t understand the slow, accumulated erosion of mobility caused by the injuries and physical damage he described. If you have foot, Achilles, knee, back and rib issues you cannot maintain peak physical fitness. It is simply impossible. He’s 50 in this clip. Metabolism has also changed. Happens to the best of us.

Russel Crowe didn't get interesting to me as a person until after Sinead O'Conner died. He came out with a heart felt tribute and memory he had with her.. they had a night. Not a romantic night.. but one that examined and pondered the mysteries of life and love. It wasn't just those two either, there was one other person there, I believe. One night in Paris, after midnight.. 3 celebs ran into each other and had a long human to human chat. And he came out with it after she passed, and shared with us how he felt about her. Which was lovely. So now, he's a lovely man, to me. xo :)
The boys are 16 and 19 now. Haven’t seen Russel in a long time last time he was hiding behind a huge beard and had gained more weight. Liked him a lot. Happened to have seen the movie he was talking about, it was no commercial success but very interesting and sensitive. Another side of him that was great.
Strange I found this today after dinner at an RSL club last night. At 7pm every night at the club, regardless of what you're doing, you stand up, face west, and they play the oath. To me that daily repetition is bizarre but I absolutely agree with honoring them on an annual basis. Russel is 100% right about there being other ways. from the 800s to the 1600s, leaders would fight along side their men on the battlefield. Not commanders and typical military ranks, Kings. The people the very men were fighting for. You wont see that these days, so why should the rest of us be out there blowing ourselves to pieces because they cant shake hands. War is quite simply a crime against humanity. All war should cease immediately and all world leaders should negotiate on behalf of each other. Or simply all borders should remain as they are. That's it. Just Fucking stop. Imagine if all that trillions and trillions of dollars spent globally on military and defense went into bettering our lives instead. Stop fighting and start freeing.
In my opinion Russell Crowe and Mike Tyson are two celebrities who are both very good at mediating as philosophers or sages and people like this should be in government, rather than people who are easily corrupted by money, power and old policy.
He is so down to earth but also so complex and intelligent. I love Russell Crowe, one of my favourite actors.
