My uncle Mack Vickery wrote this song, you can probably find his version here on TH-cam. I have always like the way Paycheck did it slightly better, and so did Mack. I visited both of their graves a few years back. RIP Johnny and Mack.
Seen johnny paycheck play a gig down in Douglas Ga at a place called HotShots. Back in the early 90s. I have to say that place was packed and to tell you the truth,, That was one of the best shows ive ever seen. I remember him playing that song and the place went wild. RIP JOHNNY PAYCHECK !! You were one of the best.
Struck me while watching this vid.....Paycheck's one of the most outlaw of "outlaw country" players/singers ever, and the ONLY one who played it honky-tonk. with a little bluegrass on this one. It's as country as you'll ever get, but it rocks real hard.
I met Johnny; was introduced to him on his tour bus by his road manager. He was performing that night. I was stunned by his amazing voice and natural talent. RIP Johnny. Love ya' You were rough as hell. Miss you too.
It's not widely known that Johnny Paycheck was actually doing a cover of this song. The original was done by a guy by the name of Cain, something or other. I can't remember if that was his stage name, his first name or last name, though.
When I clicked on this video I could smell the Marlboro Reds and Jack Daniels through my phone.
