    I got my sp404sx early 2018. I kinda knew what i was about to get into. But your channel might’ve been my main source of knowledge other than sp forum and a couple of interviews with veterans from the beatscene such as Dibia$e. You are definitely helping A LOT pf people. Not just me. I wish you nothing but the best. Much love all the way from Saudi arabia. 🙏🏽

    Yeah, love sampling in lofi but it can be a bit too harsh sometimes lol. A little bit of eqing or filtering does take the edge off. I only have the OG, so once you sample or resample in lofi it stays that way regardless what you do, but it can be fun combining it with other fx afterwards.
    I like the wah effect, it´s a little unpredictable but with some tweaking it can really add some interesting texture on lofi samples.
    And while it is difficult to do on any SP besides the 202, the classic oldschool trick of recording a sample at a higher tempo, then slowing it down, really brings out that lofi character. It´s really grainy, not always desirable, but that does sometimes get rid of the harshness

    • @spvidz
      @spvidz  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah man on that last point about sampling - thats something I'm going to cover soon as its useful for the po-33 as well, love that little trick! I need to start trying to more but sounds like it gives promising results. Interesting to hear about wah as well, i've had a few people say that's their fav...I need to branch out a bit more from isolator, mfx16 etc....!

    You can turn it into LoFi without resampling?? On the OG 404, thats impossible. I guess the lofi option started as a tool for saving memory space but with SD cards and basically unlimited memory, it wasnt necessary anymore but still, they decided to keep it as a stylistic option.

    • @spvidz
      @spvidz  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah man you can just pop it on and off kinda like a toggle switch on any pad! Yeah it will have been a lower sample rate back in the day to save memory you’re right. Useful little button on the sx/a

    • @bliss3174

      @@bliss3174 thats weird but makes sense somehow :D

    • @bliss3174
      @bliss3174 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bitumen Boy even weirder, if you a record a track in as lofi but then record that recording process (before the recording is finished and is saved toa. Pad) on another sp it will sound different than the original (finished) recording
      Idk if that makes sense but basically 3 different variation of a lofi sound from the lofi toggle

    • @bitumenboyy
      @bitumenboyy 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@bliss3174 my guess is that the audio can be either downsampled live (when you toggle it during playback or monitoring during recording) or when saved as a file. But its just a guess.

    • @VibesAntagonist
      @VibesAntagonist 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have the OG, it´s just MFX 14 Bitcrush, same functions, just different naming. It does have the separate lofi button, which basically reduces the sample rate. However, unlike the SX/A, once you reduce the sample rate it will stay at that sample rate. Even if you resample into standard, it will keep the same sound quality

    Yeah you def meant "high cut filter" rather than "high pass", it's confusing for everyone ever, bc there are two oppositely worded terms that are both correct. You could have also said "low pass". It sounds obvious, but the trick to remembering correctly is to think about what the words you are saying mean. If you are filtering out the highs you are both cutting the highs, and letting the lows pass, so in that case you can say "high cut" or "low pass". Similarly, if you are filtering out lows, you are cutting lows, while letting highs pass, so in that case both "low cut" and "high pass" are correct. Fret not though, I've seen major label legendary engineers get it wrong.
