I’m looking to start my own business and I went to my city and my city told me because it’s food I have to go to the County and I went and the County told me because my product contains meat I have to contact the State because it’s also going to be a prepackaged food. I did contact the state and they told me to obtain PFR. Watching your videos give me a lot of information on how to start a small business and this FDA episode is very interesting.

The nutritional info if your selling less than 100,000 units a year of any one flavor of your item you can qualify for the exemption. google FDA LABEL EXEMPTION and the first page will pop up for you to look more into it! What do you mean by less than 100,000 units? For example, I make candies. There are 10 in one bag. Do I consider one candy as one unit or one bag as one unit?
If I use a food product to make do I have to list each ingredient on my packaging. For instance if I use powered sugar, do I list sugar and corn starch on my packaging. Or if I use a instant Pudding in my product do I have to list each ingredient in that jello on my packaging. Or can I just put instant pudding?. I'm in Indiana, I use a commercial kitchen, and I ship in USA
Thanks for asking you need to add all ingredeints to your list. The idea is that if a customer of yours is allergic to corn starch they will have a reaction. All ingredients ( not the product name) but ingredients needs to be listed. Thanks !

Hey Rachel thanks for watching a and asking. FDA has a product exemption you can apply for that will eliminate the need for nutritional analysis, but you can't sell more than 100,000 units a year. Once you pass the threshold of 100,000 you can get the nutritional label. Would you be selling locally or online or in retail?
hello for allergy sake I would simply list your ingred: and allergens this is also going to help you so customers KNOW whats in it and protect you from someone who may have any allergy, Also may want to LLC your business and food insurance as well.

Hey Mary thanks for asking great question as well.....There are 2 ways for this the FDA allows a product exemption ( you have to apply for if you sell a certain amount of product a year) you can be exempt from certain label requirements. Then there is simply repackaging them with the appropriate labeling for customers. The thing is more customers may buy the product if there is a label on them. Always make sure at least the ingredient label is present and an allergen label

Im planning to import 8000 cans of one kind of tinned food, that is 96000 annually. I will have 6 employees in india and 4 in the US. Do I need FDA labels? If i am importing 5 tinned products, then to be exempt from the fda label, am I lted to importing less than 100000 units total or 100000 units for each product?
Thanks for asking and WATCHING !!! great question . When it comes to Amazon FBA and selling fulfilling via THEIR network I would make sure that all nutritional labeling etc. be 100% complete . Hers why... if you apply for the exemption and get it based on the product volume, that's great BUT I would not want to try and explain this to Amazons people and you would have to show documentation , and delays can occur and even confusion if they are NOT aware of this policy through the FDA. So to make it an easier "process" simply follow all labeling guidelines for standard food labeling. Now selling to retailers and local mom and pop grocery stores etc it is a less "complicated " explanation for you to give them the docs to show. Also you can actually limit yourlself in Amazon FBA ...say you sold over the 100,000 units then the exemption no longer applies and you limited your sales ! hope this helps Damian

Now...i got another question lol. Say you make your label super simple, business name, ingredient list and a website. And nothing else, making any claims. Then at the website...merely have information about the ingredients specifically quoting studies and what the studies discovered about said ingredients. Maybe I'm thinking too much haha

Hey Nya you can sell 100,000 units a year of one particualr item if you have 3 flavors you can sell 300,000 total of three different .

Hum..after reading the comments I think I got it. Now...i got another question lol.
Say you make your label super simple, business name, ingredient list and a website.
And nothing else, making any claims.
Then at the website...merely have information about the ingredients specifically quoting studies and what the studies discovered about said ingredients.
Maybe I'm thinking too much haha

yes most supplements wont have a nutritional analysis BUT the ingredinet labeling and breakdown you wuold need the FDA website has a page dedicated to supplements go to FDA . com and in search box type in SUPPLEMENT LABELING REQUIREMENTS
