I don't fully understand this yet but AMAZING! Exported and the versatility of EXR in Adobe AE is powerful. I subscribed to GSG Plus and am looking for more! Great video!
One of the (if not THE) most straight forward Redshift/C4D tut-series online! Always up to date with the most recent updates of Redshift! New features explained on point without any blah-blah :) Very pleasant kind of technical level, not too basic stuff! Works perfect for me! Really enjoying it! Thanks a lot, Chad! Could anyone share a link, how to achieve a similar solution of this channel boolean-thing in After Effects? This would be exciting :)
Really great tutorial! I tried the 'min depth' in the depth pass but got better results when using 'max depth'. I hadn't used those settings before and always got frustrated over poor post DoF. Keep up the good work! ps. the Fusion parts also rock :)
please please please post which release you're on for cinema and rs. its very useful piece of information for us and its like one line in the description. other than that, flawless run through :)
Your Object ID flow doesnt seem to work for me. Add RS Tags with Object ID enabled, unique ID's. Add an Object ID AOV. In my renderview all i can drop down to is an "Object ID 0", and that is all black instead of what looks like a matte of the object. I cant seem to get any other IDs to show in the list, or even see any result in the ID 0 that does show. Were there any prior steps taken to what you showed in the tutorial to achieve the unique ID mattes?
Does this process work the same way for animations? For example, having the passes as OpenEXR's and then loading them individually like a still image would?
Hi Chad, great, as usual. And what about a complete tutorial about Fusion basic for beginners. I've begun to use it a few days ago and i think a good GSG tutorial would be awesome. thnxs
Hi Chad, been trying to fiddle around with the AOV's and came across yours. The tutorial seems to focus more on AO AOVs and makes a little assumption that you should know how to setup AOV's already. Is it possible to get like an in-depth tutorial for the basics of AOVs. Especially for a transparent, semi translucent objects, such as a bottle of water or a glass perhaps. What will be the best AOV setup for something like that please?
I was actually wondering if it's possible to do both. Rebuild the Beauty and create masks. (Example; Creating a bottled water for composite on different color backgrounds) In this case I would want to keep the transparency of both the bottle and the water and still be able to composite it on the backgrounds.
Well, because plastic and water are refractive it would be difficult to achieve realistic results using the method you described. A comped background behind the water bottle would not distort and refract realistically. I don't recommend trying to comp different backgrounds behind refractive surfaces, those types of things are better off achieved in the renderer. Hope this helps!
Tks for the tutorial ! does object ID works for volumes as well? lets say I have 3 different volumes overlapping, how would be the best way to go to matte each other out? tks
I would guess not. The Object ID wouldn't have any variation to the value. For instance, the Object ID on a cloud may be an integer value of let's say 15. The entire bounds of that cloud would be a solid value of 15. No transparency or fall off. Great question tho!
Hi Chad, great video! Can I save out multiple AOVs within a single material? When I plug in a new input (separate from the beauty) in the Store Color to AOV, the Beauty pass goes black for some reason. Any idea why? I'm still learning how custom AOVs work.
Thanks for the reply! That makes sense. I'd love to use Takes, but I haven't upgraded to R19 yet, still on R16. Also thanks for sharing the Merk Vilson tip for numbering. Loved those little workflow improvements. :)
Can we export and use AOVs like AO pass in Demo version of the Redshift for Cinema 4D or maya?? My AO always comes out black. i simply cant generate any AO information. It wont show up even in the Bucket render in redshift live view.
Create a custom AOV in AOV manager and name it AO. Create a Redshift AO shader and put it as your custom AOVs material. render out ;) I know you probably got sorted by now, but I was unsure how to get an AO pass until recently - so others may find this comment helpful.
Hey I found a great workaround using puzzle Matte (with the 3 RGB colors) or using color user data and connect it to the "store color to AOV". in this case you get a nice luma matte of the material :-)
Mind lifting! I would love to see a Fusion for AE users Tutorial. I was playing with Fusion, but never understand where to start... Go ahead with the good stuff!
Really nice tut!....however...I found Fusion hard for compositing, for example, the depth of field is much easier in Nuke and with better results, how you deal with these. Also I was struggling to invert the z-depth from redshift...of course I found later that there are some options for this in the AOV menus...
Don't get me wrong...I find the Blackmagic pricing politic much pleasing. I was just wondering for tut of how to comp a render with DOF and etc. Maybe I am doing it wrong.
Search google for "Adrien vimeo redshift" and click on the first link. He has a video on post DOF in Nuke using redshift! He actually explains ALL the options :)
Ok... we know that redshift give you resources for promoting their product. But this kind of casts are useless for 95% people. Anyway, thanks for the effort.
Actually, these are not sponsored videos. We also cover Arnold, Octane, and Physical renderers. Have you seen our back-log of tutorials on our site? Thanks for watching!
They are super useful since a lot of people are using 3rd party renderers. And if you are not, then well, there are thousands of tutorials that will give you information for standard/physical renderer. Personally, I love the fact that we are getting some more advanced tuts. Chad for advanced stuff, Nick for physical/standard render and Chris for crazy cool setups and tools - Perfect combo! :D
The more Redshift tutorials the better. Thanks Chad
You're welcome, Nicholas! More soon.
damn we doing VFX level content now :) Please keep up the Redshift stuff
Cinematography Database glad you dug it!
Agreed, More Redshift Tutorials
!! I dig your channel! Been following it for a bit now! 👍
I dig your channel too! :-D
Is possible to render the beauty pass AND the beauty pass+ post effect at the same time?
I don't fully understand this yet but AMAZING! Exported and the versatility of EXR in Adobe AE is powerful. I subscribed to GSG Plus and am looking for more! Great video!
Why do you apply a Gamma 2.2 before Color Correction? isn't it better to do it in linear?

Remo Gambacciani thanks Remo! Glad you liked it.
Thank you so much for contributing to the production of knowledge and to the community - this video has been so helpful!
Thanks for watching!
As usual, amazing tutorial, thx Chad ! Praying for AOV light groups coming soon
Thanks, Raphael!
Best tutorial i've seen this year so far! :D Great work out there!
Thank you!
great timing, please do more after-lunch live streams ;)
Really great tutorial! I tried the 'min depth' in the depth pass but got better results when using 'max depth'. I hadn't used those settings before and always got frustrated over poor post DoF. Keep up the good work!

Great stuff Chad - keep up the good tutorial work with Redshift!
Thanks Mike!
Is there an aov option for Redshift camera effects such as lens flares/bloom? Thank you

the aov manager is new to 2.6?

Thanks chad for ur awesome tutorials
Thanks Erfan! Glad you enjoy them!

Good Luck man!
Awesome stuff... wow.
thank for the tutorial! what about aovs for animation? do you save each frame as a separate exr?
the 29:57 mark !!! thanks chad
Really enjoyed watching, thanks! Could you link to your other Redshift tutorials, please? I can't find them through GSG...
Sure here go greyscalegorilla.com/page/2/?s=redshift&post_type=gsg_tutorials

Hi Edmund! thanks for watching! Are you interested in AOV's to rebuild the beauty or using AOVs for creating masks and assets for comping?
I was actually wondering if it's possible to do both. Rebuild the Beauty and create masks. (Example; Creating a bottled water for composite on different color backgrounds) In this case I would want to keep the transparency of both the bottle and the water and still be able to composite it on the backgrounds.

Thanks Chad, really good presentation-style and topics. May I ask why you don't use Fusion 9 ?
I just haven't upgraded yet. :)

So you can't have multiple RS Material nodes going to multiple AOV inputs? Just textures?
Custom AOVs won't support full materials, only textures. But full material over-rides are possible with Takes. Have you played with those yet?
Thanks for the reply! That makes sense. I'd love to use Takes, but I haven't upgraded to R19 yet, still on R16. Also thanks for sharing the Merk Vilson tip for numbering. Loved those little workflow improvements. :)
awesome, awesome, triple like, quadruple like!
Wow, quadruple! Thanks!
took me a while to figure that under tab multipass image - save needs ✓ - was getting errors something something could not be saved. :D
Thanks for these advices! Would be possible de have the same tutorial but for After Effects?
Many of the techniques centered around the Object ID pass are not possible in AE. We wish they were. Thanks for watching!
How can i render video with exr ??
now for masking you can use cryptomatte
Why are my depth passes white unless I do Z normalized?
How does Arnold render a custom logo channel
was before black magic :D
Can we export and use AOVs like AO pass in Demo version of the Redshift for Cinema 4D or maya?? My AO always comes out black. i simply cant generate any AO information. It wont show up even in the Bucket render in redshift live view.

even not having refractions, sss, or other material in my scene, Do I need to render out their passes, to rebuild the beauty?
You shouldn't need to as there will be zero data in them.
Hi Chad, I would be so happy if you could explain how to create Object IDs for After Effects, Thanks! :-)
Unfortunately, the Object IDs generated by Redshift are not supported by After Effects. Bummer I know.

This guy is amazing he goes even further an create custom object IDs vimeo.com/248303012
can you render only the specific aov please reply 🥺
no
Sad Life 😞
Mind lifting! I would love to see a Fusion for AE users Tutorial. I was playing with Fusion, but never understand where to start... Go ahead with the good stuff!
We hope to start doing more AE and Fusion tutorials soon!
Hello .... that multi layer thing how can i seperate channels in that in after effects
Where are you getting stuck? Keep in mind that AE is not able to make use of the integer Objet ID pass.
use the ExctracTR effect in AE

sergiomarchelli if Nuke works for you, that's awesome! I just prefer Fusion personally. Thanks for watching!

Thanks man, I will try it!
My AOV's aren't showing up in that list (where Beauty is) in the IPR/Renderview. Any ideas?
You have to be in "bucket mode" to see your aovs in the RV dropdown. Maybe thats it?
That was it! So simple. Thanks!
Thank you! Googling "Redshift AOV's in IPR" gave no answer.

We don't want to see another redshift tutorial ... Want to see some physical renderer or pro render tutorials.
Stay tuned, Korver.
We? who else are there in this "WE" thing ?
I only want to see Redshift tutorials lol
same lol
only RS
