As a foreigner who migrated to America. I can say that this type of neighborhood represented in this set and seen in countless TV shows and movies is one of the reasons why American lifestyle and cultural influence is so strong around the world. The cute houses surrounded by trees, manicured lawns and perfectly street layouts, the church, the gas station, the schools, firehouse, bank amongst other things makes people think "this is where I want to raise my kids". I know people who were born in the US don't think this way because this is how they grew up. But trust me, this is the main reason many people choose to live in American.
I agree with you 100%. This is why it is so sad that it was torn down. You are correct that American TV and movie sets are famous world wide; no other nation's entertainment industry can claim this.
That "Lethal Weapons" house is better known to most as the Hazel house which is seen from Bewitched in certain outdoor scenes. You can quickly see the Bewitched house as Hazel is driving the red convertible out of the driveway in the 1963 opening credits of the show. It's fun to see how 1164 Morning Glory Circle (The Stephen's house) is used on Hazel. What's telling is the front door looks different and also the interior set up in as well. So sad to see it all be torn down.
The lot will be renovated in October 2023 with the construction of 16 soundstages. Shortly after I shot this documentary, the fountain was moved to WB's main lot. Sadly though, the studio decided to not preserve or relocate the houses.
I feel like they should be preserved by the National Historic Preservation Act. These shows are a part of our national heritage, believe it or not. What would the world be like without the history of Blondie St? I'm not happy. May all the shows that develop inside the new soundstages 13-16 be cursed to produce a record-breaking string of flops.

The “Blondie House” was Mr. Wilson’s house in the TV show Dennis the Menace and the house to the right of Mr. Wilson’s house was Dennis’s house from the same TV show. When you watch the early episodes of Dennis the Menace when they film a scene outdoors a lot of times you will see the Bewitched garage but not the house because the house hadn’t been built yet.
I wonder where were Bewitched bedrooms filmed because carefully paying attention to the house very tall ceilings, the position of the stairs and windows - there is no space for any room upstairs. Much of it is an illusion. But where did they filmed the bedrooms that were supposed to be upstairs?
If you're interested in the Columbia Ranch you should get a copy of "The Three Stooges, Hollywood Filming Locations".So many great pictures of the lot in it's heyday.
Park St also appeared in Wonder Woman in both ABC and CBS seasons. Diana Prince's apartment building was y red brick building on Boston Row opposite the fountain and in the intro to the CBS Wonder Woman show features a clip of WW's (male) stunt double leaping over the Friends fountain. 👍
I wish they would leave the backlot alone instead of tearing it down, there's so much history there, I know they've torn down so much in the past, it's just that it would've been cool to see the other areas that were used on the shows filmed back in the day, but they call it progress, I call it sad
Good presentation Chip, but you left out so much history of what used to be called the Columbia Ranch (the backlot for Columbia Pictures when it was at Sunset & Gower in HOLLYWOOD). The ranch encompassed even more acreage across Pass Avenue, the shopping center and sprawling apartment complex... the ranch had so many fires. As a studio historian and someone who spent over 40 years in the industry, I've seen the changes firsthand... even witnessed when Warner Brothers gained control of it after the Burbank Studios split-up, the destruction of the famous HIGH NOON western street. So much history!
That's right -- the downtown Westview scenes were shot on Disney's Golden Oak Ranch near Santa Clarita. That exterior set is called the "Business District."
Been watching dozens of channels showing filming locations, ending up having more questions than I got answers after watching them. Often cos many of the channels focus too much on the author. You nailed it when it comes to format, info, focus on the locations and added photage from the productions. Well done.
It's sad that the Ranch facility has been sold and will be undergoing a major renovation including building 16 sound stages. The piece of Columbia Pictures history will be gone.
I walked into WB Operations after the main lot tour and pitched the documentary. They gave me a walk-on pass and a guide. The Ranch is not suitable for public tours because it is a mile north of the main lot.
Im gonna be sick if these iconic pieces of film and tv history are destroyed to make way for the redevelopment of the Warner bros lot ( more studios, offices, and parking)
One thing that made me was upset about was some tv guides I had saved from 1975 and when in 1985 moved to an apartment I had saved them in paper bags I still bought tv guides for about ten years before this. I saved them in paper bags. One day my mother and cousin came over to help clean. My cousin threw them in the trash. I could have killed her. Those tv guides cost about 50.00 or more. There was Alice, CHIPs, emergency, six million dollar man, and others. I don't think she understood, she probably just thought it was just junk. I don't buy them anymore because most of them just have cable and I don't have it. I just watch whatever and that's. 🤗

If they are just the just the front structure maybe that is why they did this and they filmed in a different location, other where the house was. 🤔 It is sad though to tear down those structures. 🤔
Why can we not go see this in person? I want to go see this as a tour in person but I was told you cannot see the bewitched house in person unless you specifically know someone. That doesn’t make any sense to me. I can go tour the other part a mile away. But I don’t want to I want to see the bewitched house.
That entire ranch lot has been torn down now. All the sets gone. The soundstages gone. All the buildings torn down. Making way for new soundstages and production offices.
Great video! When you show the aerial view of American Beauty/Griswold house, the single-story house was Jim and Jim's house. Ricky Fitz lived in the Lethal Weapon house. He was filming Janie and Angela in the window right underneath the attic vent Chevy sticks his head out of. The pool is the same one in Chevy's fantasy sequence that is ruined by Cousin Eddie on the diving board...lol. I can't believe it's all gone now.

As the house exterior was a shallow facade, the interior scenes were filmed on Stage 4 at Sunset/Gower Studios.
