I think Bob Morris’ criticism of Moffat was unwarranted. He claimed disappointment that Moff was running slower than he wanted but, he did this after the car expired. Never question the wisdom of a pro like Moffat, he knew better.
I think Moffat felt that there was something wrong with the car and hence drove it accordingly to make the car survive the race. Then Morris over drove it and broke it.
I'm such a product of my times... I saw and heard the Address to help support Dick Johnson and though aww how nice... then "please send you cheques to that address", and I was like wtf cheques... direct debit, pay pal, go fund me... I'm in my 30's
IDick Johnson has that rock on display and insured for one million dollars! Although it cost him the race win (he was looking very comfortable in the lead), he did have everything payed for and then some in no time due to the fundraising and now has a story to tell. However, sure he would prefer not to have met that rock.
To say Johnson going to win before he hit the rock is a bit far fetched considering it was early in the race and all the Ford v8s broke down and were out of the race or multiple laps down
What happened to the car that lost a wheel and axle? That's weird. You wouldn't want that on the Barrier Highway for instance between Broken Hill and Sydney or Broken Hill and Adelaide.
Bob Morris in the days before time delayed broadcasting. LoL back off is what the commentary team wished he said. I pictured them laughing with muted mikes after the cover of "back off" was corrected.
He only lapped 5 seconds slower for a few laps, while the Johnson incident was happening. you see brock unlap himself on Grice a bit later through part one. Hes behind Grice, challenging him and then the coverage cuts away. When it returns you can see Brock 100m ahead of Grice. Then you see Brock pass Grice and Harvey end of part one to take the lead after Grice and Harvs had pitted (Brock had already pitted after he collected the Gemini car 59 seen on its roof just before Johnsons crash). The commentary states hes unlapping himself but hed already done that. Beginning of this part 2, Chris asks Pete how far he is behind and Brock replies, we are well out in front now (Before he had just pitted and Richards took over).
You wouldn't know Holden was in the lead. Channel 7 couldn't show any more bias with their constant footage of the channel 7 Ford Falcon if they had have tried....
Everyone was already sick of Holdens dominance. Brock was cashed up more than any other team. He had more power than other Commodore. Why did he win?. More money than anyon else.
Gricey’s cars loved that sand trap in the early 80s 😂

Dick Barbour, best comb-over I’ve ever seen.

I'm sure Dick would have preferred another Bathurst win

@leongt1954 yeah, I doubt Dick was all set for victory.
Wow, what a race, and just think that I only had my 5th birthday that same day.
I'm 2 days older than you. Great race full of ups and downs. Good on everyone for helping Dick out.

Williamson in the Celica was running constantly in the redline.....how is that possible?
Toyota
toyota engines in the 80s and early 90s were basically bullet proof, you could beat those engines to submission and they would keep on going
What the hell happened to the Chris Heyer car? Did you see it catch fire in the pit lane?
Back off? Yeah right.

dont ask me how a car lapping 5 second slower gets a lap on his team mate

@@kylebutler7142ford fans were just sick of watching a superior car the commodore with its superior driver BROCK thrashing 351 boat anchors.
