    Thanks for the video! I watched it a few times before and during installation. I had trouble with the passenger side bolt closest to the bumper, but finally got it to align. Installed on an '18 Tiguan with the third row.

      Way to go! Yes the passenger side was a bit of a challenge for me as well. I should have showcased that, but well done on getting it complete! Thanks for watching!

    Love the video, thank you! How did you pop the cover off the hole for the receiver before you cut into it? I have a receiver that I can just bolt on but want to ensure that I remove that panel properly because it is a lease. Thanks!

    • @FixitBongbong
      @FixitBongbong  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You mean the plastic cover under the bumper? I had to cut it out to make a passage for the receiver.

  • @MrRustydawg
    @MrRustydawg 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Great video thank you. My question is when doing the layout where you’re going to cut how did you know how far down to come? Did you just measure the hitch from the mounting bolts and take that information to the frame and then figure it out?

    • @FixitBongbong
      @FixitBongbong  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Great question! The MFG's documentation actually specified that the receiver would interfere with the the portion I marked out. So I made a template based on determining the center line and the drop noted by the documentation. If it wasn't noted by the mfg, I would have done a soft fit and measured/marked the area that needed to be removed, but still utilizing the same centerline method.

    Thank you for the video. How about for a Jetta TSI 2017? Have to trim the bumper facial panel as well? I don’t think they make a facial panel with a hitch opening for a receiver..

    • @FixitBongbong
      @FixitBongbong  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Apologies for the delayed response! Honestly, since they're a different car I'm not 100% certain. I've seen some jettas where the hitch hangs slightly below the bumper. I'll try to make a jetta hitch video in the future if I have any friends in need of a hitch install. Sorry!

  • @seanl2863

    Hi, thanks for the video tutorial, your headliner says 2018-2022 but the rear bumper design is different than previous years, so, it will fit 2022 also?

    • @FixitBongbong
      @FixitBongbong  ปีที่แล้ว

      You know.. that's an excellent question I'm not 100% certain. The Tiguan in the video required modification so I would imagine a 2022 would require similar modification. Platformwise they should be the same, but aesthetically I'm not sure how it would look given your comment on 2022 being slightly different.

      Bongbong! I managed to install the hitch by myself (sort of). I'm having issues getting the holes closest to the rear bumper to line up. Whatever rubberized underspray coating the car comes with needed to be scraped away and it still doesnt quite line up. I plan on using a jack to push the bar up but it's real stubborn and off by maybe 1/8 of an inch. Any tips?

    • @FixitBongbong
      @FixitBongbong  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      So we were hung up on this part as well. I'm not sure we were off by that much. Ultimately it took nearly an hour. I used a punch as a dowel to line it up and just kept trying until i got the threads to catch. It was certainly the most frustrating part of the whole install. Good luck.

    • @MrHuvle
      @MrHuvle 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@FixitBongbong I spent about an hour looking for a punch dowel to do just that.. instead I sacrificed a thin screwdriver which wasnt strong enough to jam it into place so I'm giving up and having a shop do the two outer bolts tomorrow. Thanks again for the replies! I hate admitting defeat but I think it's going to take the shop a few minutes and I'll have a good laugh.

    Did you ever actually have to jack up the car or just there for prevention? I don’t have a jack but want to install myself

    • @FixitBongbong
      @FixitBongbong  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great question! No, the jack was used to position and lift the hitch into place, not to lift the car. I'm sure there is some mfg tolerances between different hitch models or even the same ones.. but I don't think we would have been able to install this particular hitch without a floor jack.. much less without each other's help. Good luck!

    • @FixitBongbong
      @FixitBongbong  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey there so sorry for the delayed response! The hitch was made by Draw Tie, unsure on the model at this point but it was the kind that installs behind the bumper instead of below preserving clearance and departure angle. You can find them all over the internet through various retailers!

  • @hylndrfan

    So basically you have to butcher your rear valance to get a trailer hitch installed?

    • @FixitBongbong
      @FixitBongbong  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It all depends on the receiver hitch you go with. Some are designed to protrude below the valance, while some are like the one I installed. It's important to take into account the decreased departure angle if you go with the lower style (below valance) receivers.

    Does this hitch works for the 2021 Tiguan all space ?

    • @FixitBongbong
      @FixitBongbong  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's a really good question.. I'm not sure. I would imagine the Allspace to be a MQB platform car, but that doesn't mean they didn't change any mounting holes in the rear. I would recommend just double checking with a fit guide from eTrailer or where ever you purchase. The install procedure should be similar.

      From what I can tell online they should be the same chassis. Only reason I'm not 100% is I personally haven't worked on a 2022 model, but to my knowledge there wasn't a major platform change to Tiguan in 2022MY.

      I have a 22 Tiguan. Love it, but Volkswagen stopped installing the weld nuts on the inside of the rear frame rails. Now you have to fish the the hardware through. Went with the roof option instead. Fishing bolts and nuts isn't hard, but I didn't feel like messing with it.
