As an afterword on this video, there are a few things I want to address. One big point I really want to drive home, if I didn't stress it enough, is that while Capitano returning is a very real possibility, I have trouble seeing it story-wise (at least at this point in time) without it feeling, or quite literally being forced in some manner. Perhaps this is something that could be blamed on the way the dialogue was written at the end of the quest which really emphasized how much suffering he endured and how this is his happy ending. He did accomplish what he wanted to, checkmated the Shade of Death, and achieved rest after 500 years of suffering and sleeplessness, so thinking about it, this can be his happy ending and I would be okay with it if it really ends here. Bringing him back after all of that may feel really weird if his story is not written to account for how much the characters stressed that his was his end. Capitano is one of my favorite characters in this game, so I really hope that in the case he returns, the writers make it make sense and do his character justice. Sorry if this felt like a rant. And who knows, Hoyo might cook. Let me know your thoughts :D
Am I the only one who thinks his writing was garbage in the archon quest? like he didn't even get a lot of screen time for an 'important' character. I really hope it's because there's more to it in the future
We all can see he made it really clear that he wanted a rest after 500 years of suffering from being immortal. Regardless how he feels he still has an obligation of a fatui harbinger. If tsarisa wants him to come back he would oblige to it Altho I don’t know how much he would care so maybe he wouldn’t. Still, fixing a leyline in Natlan so that everyone in natlan can be revived? I can only think of one individual that the fatui wants to revive if not capitano.

I don't think if I'm right here but, what is the point of the ode of resurrection? That title in 5.3 like there is no bigger or most influential character in the game that is being resurrected like what's the point I'm just curious.

Btw, Chris Capitano's en VA, gave a like on one of my ig stories (amongst memes and argument pieces abt Capitano); but the only one he reacted to was one where I wrote: Bro's death have Awakened the Heavenly Principles. Who knows, he may be hinting something there, he kinda does that in the fandom lol
By the way, to fix one thing, Cap didn't trigger the paradox. If you look at the archives it says that Ronova couldn't possibly take on the risk of triggering it so she forsook his death penalty and allowed him to fuse with the lord of the night instead.
Thank you for correcting me! Seems like I missed that. Perhaps the knowledge that the paradox can have such consequences might become more relevant later on.

But fusing with the lord of the night is the death that Ronova seeks ? If not, then why did Ronova previously say that Mauvika fusing with the lord of night is an acceptable way of how she can give the death that Ronova seeks ? So no, none of the two rules were forsaken according to the dialoge and cutscene. Meaning that Capitano did indeed tirgger the paradox, it just has to be "left unresolved" to have its effect

It's very intriguing to me that ronova would rather would have capitano fuse himself in the leylines and get him what he wants rather than trigger a paradox like for an eldritch like being it's terrifying what else could she be afraid of
I honestly think that Captiano needs to return at somepoint for his story to feel satisfying. He hasnt achieved the goal of the fatui, freeing humans from the shackels of the Heavinly Principles. As the first Harbinger and protector of natlans and teyvats people it wouldnt make no sense for him to not awaken from his slumber, when humanitys situation hasnt changed from 500 years ago
Look to the description of the Pyro and Cyro gems, certainly I feel like there is something there in accordance to your sentiment - it is unresolved and Capitano has endured and intentions remain!
2:07 I'm not sure there's still a paradox here. Renova had to forsake one of her rules to avoid the paradox (either the immortality or the "witness one death"). She then said to him: "The immortality curse must stand". That implies that the "witness one death" rule was forsaken and, thus, no paradox 😅
I think the point was that Ronova wasn't necessarily banned from letting Capitano die, but rather was banned from erasing the curse itself, independent of whoever holds it. Hence Capitano's offer was to fuse with TLOTN, allowing the curse of immortality to be absorbed by TLOTN (which is a blessing for them, as they only benefit from it) and thus the curse "stands" despite having a new holder, allowing Capitano and his souls to rest in peace.
It up to developers team lol plus they haven't confirmed whether Capitano is dead or not due to his immortality curse. The developer is still keeping him as an upcoming character because characters who have a lot of lore are usually in high demand.. Even his datamined is state that he is character not monsters. They regretted killing Signora.
I don’t think they did regret it tbh. Not to mention that they would have to redeem her if she was to be made playable and clearly she doesn’t want that. Capitano on the other hand is already somebody who has proven himself as a potential ally for the traveller.
There is a way for him to come back without ruining the writing: he could come back as a "story" like Guthred did in the Night Kingdom. This could allow for a sort of "clone" of his soul to possess his old, still living, body while his real soul could remain at rest within the leylines. Since the spirits that are born from the Masters of The Nightwind's scrolls seem to only have the memories that were recorded in their respective stories, this new Thrain could seek out the memories of his old life using the real Thrain's original, immortal body.
You might be onto something! But it’s yet to be seen if the “memory” can actually inhabit and control a living body. Hopefully they give him the story he deserves and such a plot point is introduced in a meaningful manner!

I think both of those are souls, I just don't remember if they are the same, or if one of them was the one that possessed Ororon. Going by what OP said, if he loses a big chunk of his memories due to only his deeds in Natlan being recorded, then perhaps recovering his memories would be a nice segway to a Story Quest for Capitano. Perhaps even Dainsleif could be involved and help us out! An interlude quest or a story quest with Capitano and Dainsleif would be quite good! Given the severity of the memory loss, I hope he retains all of those qualities that drew us to the character and made us love him in the first place and it's just a simple case of memory loss without affecting much of the character (A character can change due to memory loss, but given his playability is at stake, I would take it without batting an eye). What's even more interesting IMO is that, if this theory proved to be true, we would end up getting something similar to Focalors with Furina, and Raiden with her puppet.
Guthred, which possessed Ororon's body, was the actual soul, escaped from Captain's heart, while the we met in the Night kingdom is the "story", as he states is himself there. But even that "story" recovered information about his real self. P.S. Guthred is kinda asshole, but i still like him.
I didn't see you mention this but if go visit the throne after the quest it prompts the traveler to offer him 6 Blazing flint ore. They are from tribal reputation so it will be awhile. Improves pyro travelers abilities but don't know if anything will happen with him if you offer all 6.
I would also like to say we aren’t finished with harbingers until we fight them in some way. we didn’t fight signora in mondstat, or scara in inazuma, we didn’t fight arlecchino in the archon quest but within her story and we will most definitely see dottore again. we’ll probably fight columbina (based on the harbinger wheel) then capitano. so even if he isn’t playable there will be more of him, or at least I think he will.
This Archon Quest has got a lot of implications and I really enjoyed it. As for Capitano, I can see 2 ways of him returning. The first is simple, The Doctor can simply Hijack the Captains Body and place a new/Artificial Soul or Conscience within him, and then Modify or leave the body as is. It doesn't have to be The Doctor but the thing is, we know his Body is just sitting there and his Soul has left so if we treat him similar to Ororon, then it is possible to have a new Soul enter his body, and that way we can Have a Playable Capitano if it is someone we know, and the thing is, Capitano's body could still have some of his Memories, So the new Inhabitant/character would be a mix match of 2 characters and this would give us a Playable Capitano while allowing Capitano to rest. Second option is simply the Captain self Resurrecting, or being Resurrected Forcibly into his Old or even a New Clone body. the basis of this is, that Raiden Shogun and The Wanderer were artificial bodies designed to house consciousness and I am sure that includes Souls. So someone taking The Captains Soul and Placing it into a "Doll" body would be possible if The Captain was deemed too Valuable of an Asset(Which he is) and remember the Fatui have access to Memory Wiping and this could actually give us The Capitano boss fight as we will be Fighting to restore his Memories and bring him to our side. Yeah that was along Spiel, but serious Question, Since the Pyro Archons are former Humans, what happens if the Archon Candidate has a Hydro Vision or something other than Pyro? does it just disappear, Stop working, or do we get a Duel Element Archon? or If the said Archon prefers his Original Element, does that mean we could Have a Pyro Archon with a Dendro Vision and Elemental powers? cause that would Be funny
“Emotional rollercoaster?” It was so overly dramatic. I enjoyed the cameos from world quests but it was so painfully obvious that Mavuika was never going to die. At least Focalor’s sacrifice actually made sense, I’m so done with natlan
A bittersweet moment for Thrain to protect Natlanese as the ‘white knight’ genre ideal. The background flashbacks to Thrain are his knighthood ceremony and his battlefield experiences in Natlan in Night-Wind region. It speaks volumes about his compassion towards others in need. As head canon, Thrain left his unrequited developing feelings for Xilonen, unspoken. As a knight of Khaenri'ah, he wanted to protect the Natlanese people and by extension the entire world of Tavet. If Thrain does return then he might return as the son of Xilonen and Ororon.
The body is there for the taking. The Doctor could easily take it and use it for his experiments. Heck we may get a pseudo Capitano were it is the same body but a different Soul is hosting it. They just said his Heart can read and store souls. It's not out of the question modifying it enough to allow one strong soul to host the body.
I think his duty as a thrain is over but as capitano it's not over coz ronova is still breathing and celestia is still standing above and i dont think the harbingers & tsaritsa would fight against celestia without their first harbinger Another evidence is that he still has skillobj files in the data files...which only playable characters possess it
Would agree if it wasn’t for the fact irminsul is burned away already in natlan. The night kingdom is completely insular, and is like a prosthetic, it replaced irminsul in natlan but can’t actually interact w it
I saw a theory in one youtube section, As the name Thrain has resurfaced again and gained even more faith of natlanese. Its likely that a soul can be created from his story, just like guthread in 5.3 quest. The real captain might be gone but this hero version can be reincarnated by the lord of the night, so its plausible.
One intrigue point for me is what connection does the curse of immortality have between Soul and Body? We know it causes physical torment (I assume chronic pains?) on top of the "Decay" & "Rot" Capitano mentions (transforming into those abyssal monsters, like the Black Serpents or those two Khaenri'ahn soldiers in that one cave in Natlan idk what they're called man,) it makes me think-- if Thrain were to say, get a new body or something, cuz let's be honest, the Soul makes the person not the body, would that new body be affected by the curse of immortality and eventually turn into an abyssal monster? It feels like there's no way for Thrain to come back and get a W here, unless his high amount of selflessness somehow kicks in like it did with those soldiers 500 years ago. Food for thought. I want him playable, too, but the writers definitely set a high bar for themselves if they want to bring him back and make it good.
Sighss... First Signora and now Capitano, both of my fave Harbingers now not playable at the moment, Arlechino and Scara made it at least and those two feels like a miracle to be so, one thing though is at least Capitano at least managed to make his reputation intact, while Signora made her so out of character just for the sake of the weak story has happened and poof, gone just like that and with nothing but Artifact stories to fill in our copium as they would call it... 🙃

But on the other hand, as what is already shown, Capitano is already dead, which is very obvious by the laws of nature. Ronova can't deal to Capitano and defy her own rules because he has the essence of immortality, which is a paradox of of life and death and she has no right to lift the curse, so she let him do what he aims for with the deal made by Lord of the Night. Most characters knew that Capitano is already dead, and they commemorate him on a light torch with his sculpted image, and the saurians and people who fought and defended the nation from the longest time of Abyss infestation. Think about this, if Capitano will be playable by player's request, then people will actually demand of playable La Signora, which is too ridiculous to imagine. If that playable Capitano happens, then what is the sense of his longing of death? Lores of Genshin are never been retconned since its launch, and don't even start the argument pertaining to Scaramouche, he's been kept by Nahida after his defeat, and agreed to help her to resolve the problem on Irminsul. Unless Night Kingdom is accessible, it could confirm the real deal of this scenario, but as much as the story implies, Capitano is conceptually dead. 😐
i didn’t mind the way capitano’s backstory was handled, but i did not like the role he played in the plot of Natlan. him being hyped up to be an overwhelming powerhouse made his ending very underwhelming. if they wanted to pull an “outsmarting death” card, they should’ve let Dottore do that since he’s a master manipulator. this being the nation of war and Capitano being such a massive threat, i would’ve liked to see more of him overwhelming his opponents and people who got in his way.
At least Focalors sacrifice made some sense. At the end of this quest, they went to great lengths to explain “rules” and soul bottling, but failed to cover the basics, like where they even traveled to meet the eyes of death

I share your opinion, while I’d love to see The Captain‘s return, it should really be for a good reason and should make sense story wise, he’s too good a character to be wasted just to make him playable. So let’s hope that if he returns, he’ll get a good story line that does him justice
Capitano had the best ending, and should not return as he finally achieved his goal and found rest. Anyone that wants him back, completely disregards his entire character and painfully long journey (not a true fan of the character). Also, if he ever comes out again as part of the Lord of the Night for whatever story reason, it will only be within Natlan as he is part of the local Ley Lines which are not connected to the rest of Teyvat. And this also means that he can NOT and will NEVER be playable. Let the Legend rest in peace.

Because she witnessed his "de'ath", because he said it's what she seeks, but since she can't break curse-rule (if she would, HP would kic k her) she left Mavuika and him as it is. It's not that she instantly gave up on HER deal-rule, but that's Capitano forced her to see his de'ath or she gets nothing ATT ALL, even the view of death and since there is curse of immortality, she can't death-death him. It's just how the world works: he is actually d ead, but curse-wise he is not. That's the paradox. So she gave up on her rules not herself, but rather ot was automatically cancelled for her case, because she DOESN'T WANT HP to punish her for surpassing their rules. For her that "relinquishes the demand for the price of "dea'th" os unbreakable rule of herself. She is afraid of hp. Also it would be nice if someone check summary in Chinese, because it only says about one of his goals. Also, if devs meant something else or its a wrong translation, paradox still exists, the difference is that Ronova gets something for deal or gets nothing.
I also want to add my personal remark is that "she relinquishes the rule of d'eath" in the travel log is the moment she said "the curse of immortality must stand" in the cutscene. so since she chose the curse she should have technically relinquished the rule of dea'th , but capitano forced her to witness his de'ath anyways (in the animation 10 days ago you can see her witnessing it) so in summary, yes. you are right. there is a paradox. there would have literally been no use using the paradox and capitano explaining its consequences if it wasnt meant to happen in the first place and it was just meant for ronova to just choose between two rules. in the description of the throne of primal fire (capitano's temporary napping place) it is stated that he has "frozen" life and death. how can someone possibly freeze life and death at the same time? try asking anyone that, they say its impossible.
I don't mind if I have to wait for Capitano to become playable and I don't mind if his design is reworked (ok, so maybe I'll mind a bit, but as long as it makes sense like Wanderer's then I'm fine with it). I just want the man to be playable and his return makes sense and is well-written.

This is what I dont understand... he didnt get Signora treatment because hes not a weekly boss.... ALL HARBINGERS are weekly bosses...... all of them!..... so why break the cycle now? Rumors have been circling saying that the story writer team has been replaced that's why natlan feels so weird. But considering it as a rumor I wouldn't believe it especially since there's no proof
“Ronova relinquished her demand over the price of death” it was said in the quest archive, so the paradox wasn’t triggered and Capitano is far from dead
Genshin writers has proven time and time again that they doesn`t care much about logic and can write whatever they want lol, so yeah capitano will be back, i don`t really care about the reasoning they can make one out of nowhere

I didn't see you mention this but if go visit the throne after the quest it prompts the traveler to offer him 6 Blazing flint ore. They are from tribal reputation so it will be awhile. Improves pyro travelers abilities but don't know if anything will happen with him if you offer all 6.

I would also like to say we aren’t finished with harbingers until we fight them in some way. we didn’t fight signora in mondstat, or scara in inazuma, we didn’t fight arlecchino in the archon quest but within her story and we will most definitely see dottore again.
we’ll probably fight columbina (based on the harbinger wheel) then capitano. so even if he isn’t playable there will be more of him, or at least I think he will.
This Archon Quest has got a lot of implications and I really enjoyed it. As for Capitano, I can see 2 ways of him returning. The first is simple, The Doctor can simply Hijack the Captains Body and place a new/Artificial Soul or Conscience within him, and then Modify or leave the body as is. It doesn't have to be The Doctor but the thing is, we know his Body is just sitting there and his Soul has left so if we treat him similar to Ororon, then it is possible to have a new Soul enter his body, and that way we can Have a Playable Capitano if it is someone we know, and the thing is, Capitano's body could still have some of his Memories, So the new Inhabitant/character would be a mix match of 2 characters and this would give us a Playable Capitano while allowing Capitano to rest. Second option is simply the Captain self Resurrecting, or being Resurrected Forcibly into his Old or even a New Clone body. the basis of this is, that Raiden Shogun and The Wanderer were artificial bodies designed to house consciousness and I am sure that includes Souls. So someone taking The Captains Soul and Placing it into a "Doll" body would be possible if The Captain was deemed too Valuable of an Asset(Which he is) and remember the Fatui have access to Memory Wiping and this could actually give us The Capitano boss fight as we will be Fighting to restore his Memories and bring him to our side.
Yeah that was along Spiel, but serious Question, Since the Pyro Archons are former Humans, what happens if the Archon Candidate has a Hydro Vision or something other than Pyro? does it just disappear, Stop working, or do we get a Duel Element Archon? or If the said Archon prefers his Original Element, does that mean we could Have a Pyro Archon with a Dendro Vision and Elemental powers? cause that would Be funny

Yeah I feel you. Natlan AQ definitely had some issues and doesn’t live up to Sumeru and Fontaine in my opinion.
A bittersweet moment for Thrain to protect Natlanese as the ‘white knight’ genre ideal. The background flashbacks to Thrain are his knighthood ceremony and his battlefield experiences in Natlan in Night-Wind region. It speaks volumes about his compassion towards others in need.
As head canon, Thrain left his unrequited developing feelings for Xilonen, unspoken. As a knight of Khaenri'ah, he wanted to protect the Natlanese people and by extension the entire world of Tavet. If Thrain does return then he might return as the son of Xilonen and Ororon.
The body is there for the taking.
The Doctor could easily take it and use it for his experiments.
Heck we may get a pseudo Capitano were it is the same body but a different Soul is hosting it.

Would agree if it wasn’t for the fact irminsul is burned away already in natlan. The night kingdom is completely insular, and is like a prosthetic, it replaced irminsul in natlan but can’t actually interact w it

As the name Thrain has resurfaced again and gained even more faith of natlanese.
Its likely that a soul can be created from his story, just like guthread in 5.3 quest.
The real captain might be gone but this hero version can be reincarnated by the lord of the night, so its plausible.
One intrigue point for me is what connection does the curse of immortality have between Soul and Body? We know it causes physical torment (I assume chronic pains?) on top of the "Decay" & "Rot" Capitano mentions (transforming into those abyssal monsters, like the Black Serpents or those two Khaenri'ahn soldiers in that one cave in Natlan idk what they're called man,) it makes me think-- if Thrain were to say, get a new body or something, cuz let's be honest, the Soul makes the person not the body, would that new body be affected by the curse of immortality and eventually turn into an abyssal monster?
It feels like there's no way for Thrain to come back and get a W here, unless his high amount of selflessness somehow kicks in like it did with those soldiers 500 years ago. Food for thought.
I want him playable, too, but the writers definitely set a high bar for themselves if they want to bring him back and make it good.
Sighss... First Signora and now Capitano, both of my fave Harbingers now not playable at the moment, Arlechino and Scara made it at least and those two feels like a miracle to be so, one thing though is at least Capitano at least managed to make his reputation intact, while Signora made her so out of character just for the sake of the weak story has happened and poof, gone just like that and with nothing but Artifact stories to fill in our copium as they would call it... 🙃
You talked of rebirth so he could possibly get in original mortal state back of when he was a normal khaenri’ahian solider with some aspects changed to fit a playable character design
Talking about the loom of fate and capitano new ability to change the ley lines I think this will indicate nahida to definitely have involvement in the later story since she’s the protector of irminsul and capitano may change the natlan ley lines to connect with the rest of teyvats

Isn’t their end game revolve around collecting the remains of the descender? Maybe this is connected.
But on the other hand, as what is already shown, Capitano is already dead, which is very obvious by the laws of nature. Ronova can't deal to Capitano and defy her own rules because he has the essence of immortality, which is a paradox of of life and death and she has no right to lift the curse, so she let him do what he aims for with the deal made by Lord of the Night. Most characters knew that Capitano is already dead, and they commemorate him on a light torch with his sculpted image, and the saurians and people who fought and defended the nation from the longest time of Abyss infestation.
Think about this, if Capitano will be playable by player's request, then people will actually demand of playable La Signora, which is too ridiculous to imagine. If that playable Capitano happens, then what is the sense of his longing of death? Lores of Genshin are never been retconned since its launch, and don't even start the argument pertaining to Scaramouche, he's been kept by Nahida after his defeat, and agreed to help her to resolve the problem on Irminsul.
Unless Night Kingdom is accessible, it could confirm the real deal of this scenario, but as much as the story implies, Capitano is conceptually dead. 😐
i didn’t mind the way capitano’s backstory was handled, but i did not like the role he played in the plot of Natlan. him being hyped up to be an overwhelming powerhouse made his ending very underwhelming. if they wanted to pull an “outsmarting death” card, they should’ve let Dottore do that since he’s a master manipulator. this being the nation of war and Capitano being such a massive threat, i would’ve liked to see more of him overwhelming his opponents and people who got in his way.
At least Focalors sacrifice made some sense. At the end of this quest, they went to great lengths to explain “rules” and soul bottling, but failed to cover the basics, like where they even traveled to meet the eyes of death

I share your opinion, while I’d love to see The Captain‘s return, it should really be for a good reason and should make sense story wise, he’s too good a character to be wasted just to make him playable. So let’s hope that if he returns, he’ll get a good story line that does him justice
Capitano had the best ending, and should not return as he finally achieved his goal and found rest. Anyone that wants him back, completely disregards his entire character and painfully long journey (not a true fan of the character).
Also, if he ever comes out again as part of the Lord of the Night for whatever story reason, it will only be within Natlan as he is part of the local Ley Lines which are not connected to the rest of Teyvat. And this also means that he can NOT and will NEVER be playable.

Because she witnessed his "de'ath", because he said it's what she seeks, but since she can't break curse-rule (if she would, HP would kic k her) she left Mavuika and him as it is. It's not that she instantly gave up on HER deal-rule, but that's Capitano forced her to see his de'ath or she gets nothing ATT ALL, even the view of death and since there is curse of immortality, she can't death-death him. It's just how the world works: he is actually d ead, but curse-wise he is not. That's the paradox.
So she gave up on her rules not herself, but rather ot was automatically cancelled for her case, because she DOESN'T WANT HP to punish her for surpassing their rules. For her that "relinquishes the demand for the price of "dea'th" os unbreakable rule of herself. She is afraid of hp.
Also it would be nice if someone check summary in Chinese, because it only says about one of his goals.
Also, if devs meant something else or its a wrong translation, paradox still exists, the difference is that Ronova gets something for deal or gets nothing.
I also want to add my personal remark is that "she relinquishes the rule of d'eath" in the travel log is the moment she said "the curse of immortality must stand" in the cutscene. so since she chose the curse she should have technically relinquished the rule of dea'th , but capitano forced her to witness his de'ath anyways (in the animation 10 days ago you can see her witnessing it)
so in summary, yes. you are right. there is a paradox. there would have literally been no use using the paradox and capitano explaining its consequences if it wasnt meant to happen in the first place and it was just meant for ronova to just choose between two rules.
in the description of the throne of primal fire (capitano's temporary napping place) it is stated that he has "frozen" life and death. how can someone possibly freeze life and death at the same time? try asking anyone that, they say its impossible.

I don't mind if I have to wait for Capitano to become playable and I don't mind if his design is reworked (ok, so maybe I'll mind a bit, but as long as it makes sense like Wanderer's then I'm fine with it). I just want the man to be playable and his return makes sense and is well-written.

This is what I dont understand... he didnt get Signora treatment because hes not a weekly boss.... ALL HARBINGERS are weekly bosses...... all of them!..... so why break the cycle now? I mean hoyo can TOTALLY decide whatever they want its their game but it is kinda odd.....??? I honestly dont think his story is over.
