I feel the misery these poor people, especially the women were subjected to. There is not one thing I can do about the harshness and brutality of history except appreciate how hard their lives truly were.

Name of this mother must be written so, Poonamma Aarumugam.( பூணம்மா ஆறுமுகம் ). She has 100% Tamil name. There are also Tamils from Madras ( Madras called now Chennai ) been taken to Trinidad. I place this information if some relatives from this mother reading my comment will find their heritage.

abdul yes many people in Trinidad, Guyana & Suriname were from Madras. Majority of the Indians taken by the French to Guadeloupe & Martinique were Tamils from Madras. When someone is dark skinned in Trinidad we refer to them as a Madras.

My grandmother worked on one of these estates. When she was pregnant with my mother, she went home and made the baby then went back into the canefield to continue work. I have an uncle who was fathered by a plantation owner from Scotland, his mother was Indian. They were both put out and he grew up in extreme poverty as he was considered an outcast.

No one is asking your preference in 'modern world' because 'you' did not endure what they endured after arriving there 2 centuries ago.

I still prefer being here in Trinidad than even in modern day India, thanks to my ancestors. And don't be fooled all races in mankind have their faults, none is superior than another, it might just be covered up more base on the country, and who the media supports.
