    So excited since I watched a couple videos now. Learning before I invest in supplies. Your work and videos are amazing and so inspiring! Thank you, Shari. ~ Paula

    @Shari, I've just started discovering your work! Thank you so much for sharing! I am curious how you finish the tiles! I have some that I made years ago, and I would love to get some ideas of how to finish them. Do you put anything on the back? a hangar? felt? Thank you!

    Just gorgeous and so much inspiration! I haven't tried encaustic yet but watching you work it won't be long before I can't hold off any longer & I'll definitely be trying your online workshop/s -- thanks so much for sharing your love of the medium :)

    What great videos you have! You are super talented and keep things interesting! My question relates to your cool 'scribbles' with the india ink. Since it's a dropper you are 'writing' with, how do you keep it flowing....I just get a bit of a blob, and then run out of ink. You make it look much easier than it is! :) Thanks! Crystal

    • @ShariReplogle
      @ShariReplogle  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Crystal ! The ink scribbles are from years of making that same motion so I had to think on that one :) I think I just keep the bottle or dropper tilted so that the ink releases more steadily and not all at once . Hope that helps !

    Thanks for the video Shari. I didn’t think you could use the resin over wax

    Hello Shari. Thank you for all your beautiful videos. ❤ Could the printer paper be dipped into colored wax or does it need to be clear encaustic medium? Thank you. Marie.

    Pretty darn cool! So popping the resin bubbles with the torch... the resin is not flammable?

    • @ShariReplogle
      @ShariReplogle  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      HI Happy Cluck ! This method is the recommendation from the manufacturer of Art Resin, the resin that I use . Here is a link to their video on getting rid of the air bubbles in their resin with a torch : th-cam.com/video/PODM8_eHU6w/w-d-xo.html Whatever resin you use , I would go by that specific resin's manufacturer recommendations and instructions for getting rid of air bubbles :)

    Shari, have you heard or used Tempera paint as an encaustic ground?

  • @zsavon
    @zsavon 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    will the papers created using the oil stick weaken the integrity of the wax. I thought we were supposed to remove as much of the oil stick as possible.

  • @lolawuchtbrumme7972

    I definitely have to play with alcohol inks now. I am wondering why you don't use wax for the final layer instead of the resin. Is it because you want it shiny?

    • @ShariReplogle
      @ShariReplogle  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      HI Lola ! They are fun :) If it were on board I could but a layer of encaustic will not adhere permanently to the tile because it is not a porous surface.

    After cleaning with baby oil, can you then use acrylic on your gel plate? Thank you!

    • @ShariReplogle
      @ShariReplogle  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Lucy ! Oh yes, you can clean your mediums off the plate with the baby oil and you are good to go for another project acrylic or oil ! I just don't use acrylic paints on encaustic . Great question !

    so sorry I didn't put all my questions in the same comment...I was wondering if I used a porous bisque tile and the same techniques but then apply wax to the top? would this work?

    Is there another way to seal the tiles besides resin? Varnish?

    • @ShariReplogle
      @ShariReplogle  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Sally! Yes you can seal it with varnish if you don't want to resin. A Krylon spray etc would work with the alcohol ink backgrounds .

    Shari. How do you finish edges on your lovely hair free tiles? I am Dee in Johannesburg...Michigan.

    • @ShariReplogle
      @ShariReplogle  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Dee ! I sand them when the resin is cured to get off any drips, lumps and bumps . Then if depends on what media I did on them and if they need touching up(acrylic pour , alcohol ink, etc) I can usually just touch them up with that medium and if necessary run my gloved finger around them again with a light coat of resin . Great question!

    I want to try encaustic soooooo bad!! What would you recommend for a trial run at this fabulous art form?

    • @ShariReplogle
      @ShariReplogle  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Studio 831! Encaustic lends itself to all sorts of different uses from painting on board, paper , and even sculpture . You can also use almost any medium with it with the acception of acrylic . It really depends on what you would like to do with it ( use on paper, photography, collage, sculpture, paint on board , etc ) I always recommend Encausticology 101 if you are starting out and want to see what encaustic can do in lots of different situations and used with a lot of different mediums . It starts out with techniques and builds to more involved projects using those techniques. Most of the Encausticolgy workshops have beginning introduction videos with how to get started, tools, set up etc . Most of all it is a wonderful medium have fun !

    Question- once you use oil sticks on the gel press, are you able to go back and use acrylic paint on it at a later date? Or once an oil tool, always an oil tool ?

    • @ShariReplogle
      @ShariReplogle  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Jen you can clean the oil sticks off of the gel press plate with a couple of drops of baby oil and you are good to go with acrylics etc :)
