    Don’t be afraid to feel like you’re asking too many questions as an intern. I’ve never told any of my interns that they’ve asked too many questions, but I’ve had many interns ask too few questions (which led to bad results).

    • @jayrollo1352
      @jayrollo1352 ปีที่แล้ว

      If an intern fails, it's usually your fault as a mentor. Unless they just didn't do the work all, it means you're a sh*t leader. Once I internalized this, I never had a problem again.

    The segment where she talked about crying at work because you are overwhelmed because you don't know what you are supposed to do but you are kinda supposed to know what to do------ god. It was so fucking relatable that i subscribed immediately!!!! Gald i found this video in recommendation ❤️✨

    god, I just started my internship this month too. It's honestly tough, being so inexperienced and immature compared to everyone else. Thank you for this realistic vlog!

    This was so relatable! I felt like crying at work too when I started my new job a couple of months ago. I went from working in auto finance to the medical field. A specialty field. There was really no training and it was like I was expected to know everything and my excitement quickly became overwhelming.

    I think that feeling - of not knowing exactly what you're supposed to be doing but making your best guess and trying to navigate that without fast or good feedback - is universal among interns and post-grads. Part of it is that things are constantly correcting course and you sometimes have to roll with the punches... this isn't to say that you just have to accept the fate of being constantly confused and frustrated, it's just that there's a learning curve on how to deal professionally and emotionally with those things. I definitely went through that (tears were shed), and ngl it's pretty rough, but you WILL get through it and you'll be so much more confident in yourself and your capabilities. You're not crying "for no good reason," those feelings are super valid and really hard to articulate to anyone you work with (especially a mentor/boss) - I found it helpful to talk through it with friends/family and after verbalizing those feelings, practicing articulating them, it's a lot easier to communicate to your mentor/boss. Felt like I should leave a message of encouragement, because I've been where you are, and hope this is helpful :)

    Great channel. I found it while researching colleges for my kid (yes…I am an old veteran of corporate America). I’ll give you some unpolitically correct career advice that managers may be scared to tell you.
    First of all, you are intelligent and motivated, so you’ll be successful at whichever job you are willing to commit your talents to. Choose your own adventure, but the decisions you make before 21 will impact the rest of your life (no pressure hahaha). The good news is that you have lots of options.
    If I ran into you in an office, I’d peg you for a sales person-eye catchingly attractive, aware of how people perceive you, analytical, and self confident with a sprinkling of narcissism (so you are comfortable being the center of attention). It makes you good at TH-cam and getting channel sponsors. Sales is like acting…people with a talent for it can do very well.
    Sales is about getting people to pay attention to you based on charm and good looks, while using your analytical skills to explain how a product meets their needs. If you sell a 90 million dollar software deal, you get a percentage as your commission. It’s about projecting a personae and having the ability to captivate people, while understanding your audience (kinda like TH-cam).
    If PM is your thing, I’m sure you’ll be good at it. Maybe you love bringing structure to chaos and managing team deadlines. But you have the “it” factor for sales that can be more financially rewarding, if that’s your goal.
    Take whichever path you feel passionate about. Work is selling units of your life to somebody else. Make sure it fits your personality. That’s why you went to MIT, right? To have choices in life. Too many people fall into random jobs that a friend or recruiter told them about and squander their open menu of possibilities.
    Good luck.

    I rlly feel the same way with my internship. I’m being challenged a lot and sometimes it feels very overwhelming and like you said have to redo a lot of things bc I was doing stuff wrong, I guess it’s rlly part of the process!

    I have my own business. Bosses want you to ask questions because they know you are engaged. If you don’t ask questions they think you are either just not doing the job or not that engaged. Bosses wonder just as much as you do if they are doing a good job training and are you a culture fit. Be yourself, talk to them like humans, ask questions, learn from others, be straightforward. Bonus points if you can find something that makes you more valuable to your team or your boss. Find their weakness and help them just like you want them to help you with your weaknesses.

    Congrats on the gig!! In your MIT vlogs, you seem a lot more "large and in charge" than in this Microsoft interning vlog. It sounds like you may be in danger of burning up a bunch of billable hours, while trying to bluff knowing what you're doing. I think that's a newbie spiral a lot of people fall into. I think you might need to show your supervisor/manager where you are in your current project, and ask what you should focus on next, just to confirm that you're where they're thinking you should be with your assignments/goals. The worst case scenario is floundering for weeks then seeming unproductive overall vs. being a little embarrassed asking a perfectly reasonable question in time to turn things around.
