Tuomas told in recent interview, that in Autumn 2023, when the band had rehearsed the songs in Finland, they all flew to meet Floor in her home studio in Sweden. Tuomas thought that it would take at least 2 weeks for Floor to sing her part, but she had already studied and rehearsed by herself so deeply, that it took only 6 days for Floor to sing everything into the recordings. Tuomas said that after cancer, heavy touring and pregnancy&childbirth she could not be in that good shape, but she was supernatural and Tuomas respects Floor even more if only possible! That's how she is our Valkyrie Queen - supernatural!
I believe this song is quite literally a critique of social media and consumerist news. It references so many things which were (over)hyped and different forms of control over us -- the consumers of said media -- to keep our eyes on them and the information they CHOOSE to give us, very often negative or foreboding information. Often left out are the things which would give us hope or resolution, simply because it pays to keep us divided, afraid, and powerless. Nightwish has a real talent for using lyrics which convey a much greater meaning than the sum of their words, and one of the last lyrics in this song is another bombshell: "The end is fear".
Tuomas said about this song: “Floor at first is acting to be the preacher of fear, then the kids saying how things really should be and in the last chorus they join and that is where the magic happens”. I think the children’s choir gives a great twist and balance in the song. Like stated before in Weak Fantasy: Fear is a choice you embrace! Universe: not to spoil anything, but you can stop worrying ❣️

In the thirty years I teach there are always pupils asking me if there’s going to be a war or if the world will end. I’ve always assured them it will get by, but it hit me every time to see their fear. So this song is wonderful to enlighten them they are being manipulated.

Another great reaction. Every time I watch this video there is something new to unpack. The storytelling in the lyrics and the video is top notch and you really need to do a deep dive to get every thing.. Musically I get vibes of Music and Harvest from Human Nature. Originally I thought this was Tuomas's warning of humanities proclivity to freakout over the next disaster that people are pushing (so many references to apocalyptic predictions) but now I just picked up how in the chorus the children are saying that their is hope for the feature, no need to let fear and misery control us as you said. In the video there is one part where you see adult Mayans on their knee's reacting to their perceived end of the world as a solar eclipse is occurring, reminiscent of the end of world prediction in the Mayan calendar which was supposed to happen in 2012. Watching this time I noticed amongst the adults is a child leaning over a seedling that is recently planted, representing hope for the future. My two favorite lines are "A new strain sent you back into your cave. Obey, stay away, cover up" (reference to Covid?)and "A need to feel dread, gloom, awe. A lust for never-ending doom porn" I especially love Tuomas's poetic turn in the second line to describe how people are fascinated with the bad and evil and give short shrift to the positive and uplifting. As they say in the news business, if bleed it leads.
This surprised me. I don't know what I expected but it wasn't this. It's a bit dark and very different, at least compared to the material they've been known for the last decade or so. Really like it. Great reaction!

I hear influences clearly by Pink Floyds The Wall and Queens Night at the oprea. In the chorus right after the instrumental part and Choir I hear Agneta from ABBA in Floors voice. Story has elements of George Orwells 1984 and the video also is directing this way. Over all you need to hear it several times - like mostly in Nightwish songs - to get the full enjoyment with it. A bit of a new way to go for Nightwish, with the children choir, having as much singing time as Floor almost i belive, Floor is doing some fast phrasing here to, something like she does in the song Shoemaker, kind off i think. The Ill starred kids of your junkyard thats us humans right, People today are getting told all kind of doomsday things, AI and war will end the world, but this song says, the end is fear, its not near, armagedon aint coming tommrow, so life your life, hide the unshot guns doomsday predictors tell is gonna blast. Also notice that Floor joins the kids choir at end and connect that to her charecter she is in video, she realize something during video, Toumas said so in a interview i watched.. I didnt read the book 1984 written by George Orwell, but the song got reference to that book i belive. At first listen i needed another listen, at 3th listen the song got me, and i started like the children choir, i actually think its a pretty good song, and something not heard like this from NW before, now i listened to the song many times! This is not a Empuu shine song, there is heavy guitar rhytm in the middle section and end, but not the big Empuu solo, but i also think this song dosent need it, because the Children choir takes spotlight instead,.. The title the day off.. is missing telling what its the day off, so i think this is where you can put in the optimistic view of the song, as a listener, if you like to, and hear the song that way, the listener decide what its the day off. The original idea was this one to be 1st single, because it was a diffrent sound from NW people told Tuomas, this have to be a single, but then Tuomas decided it should be Perfume of the timelees, and this 2nd.

I went to a talk by a news producer, it made me sick, almost wanted to leave, it was so disgusting and disturbing.

I prefer Perfume, but I really love this one too! Floor said making this video was an intense process, but the end result was well worth it.
