@alchemiust They have encountered one another before, it was when Jim was The Spectre, he went into Joker's soul but was weakened by The Spear of Destiny so Joker was capable of taking over Spectre because his soul was 'his turf'. So while Jim is treading around in Joker's soul, Batman is fighting a Spectrified-Clown, Jim finds Joker's conscience or lack of and shares some of his own through a 'wire.' He ends up detaching from Spectre and becoming momentarily sane, and terribly guilty.
@TheIflame Specter is a diety in the DC Universe. He is in some ways like the Grim Reaper. He is the embodiment of God's (Judeo-Christian/God of Abraham) Vengence, but he must be linked to a human soul in order to act on Earth. He is the second diety of his kind in DC's history before him there was Eclipso (God's Wrath) who went mad and turned malevolent. Spectre is his replacement.
Wait a min! The spectre made both Electro and The Human Torch sent them into the marvel universe, and forgot to send boomers in there, and just threw them on the real earth? BITCH!!!
