I got my excellent condition 500cm (but labelled as 500c) with acute finder, a12 classic back (with iso dial) and classic silver 80mm lens for aud$1450 last year from a guy who brought it from USA. Having to be my third hasselblad in my life, this classic version is by far the best design among my other previous ones (501cm and 501cw). Its like owning the leica m3; simple, neat, timeless.
Love my 500c. You probably actually have a late model 500c with a replaceable screen, which came before the 500cm model name. 500c cameras tend to be a little older, because the latest production date was from 1970. You can check the date by the serial number on the body and film back. That’s awesome you have an acute matte screen. I wish I had the D type screen, but they’re soo pricey. I’m happy mine came with a grid screen. ✌️
You are absolute right. I dream of an 6x6 Databack, but that would cost millions and because of the law of physics, the vignetting and corner sharpness would be an issue, especially with the legenday ZEISS 38mm biogon
Really good, Ryan! I really enjoyed it :) Congratulations again on getting your Hasselblad! Aren't they just a joy to use?! I really liked the third photo a lot. The one on the beach with all of the people :)
For me it is an very emotional video, remembering me to the time 1976 - 1979, when I learned the profession of a photographer. HASSELBLAD is the Rolls-Royce of the photography universe, combined with a stability of a Mercedes. In these years they advertised with the slogan: The Camera you know years ahead you own. Of course, for an apprentice the budget is by far not big enough to buy. In the beginning 1980s I saved enough money and bought a second hand 500C with the 80mm and an A12. A dream came true, alonside with a lot of more motivation to work, save more money and invest in , of couse: HASSELBLAD. Up to now I own a SWC/M and a 503cx, plus Magazines and the superb 120mm Macro f4. May be in some years, a then more older and affordable databack with 39MPx will be mine. Again it is: The moment you planned for, reached for struggled for - the long awaited moment of success ! Thank you for that video, bringing up so much memories - stay healthy !
My family's business is photography. I remember learning about F stops and shutter speeds on a 500. I was then given a Canon T90 with I think a 177A that I still have (obviously I don't have that outdated of a flash I think I have a 500 on it now). Turned 12 and started assisting loading backs (always make sure your dark slide is tight lol), lighting, placement, and everything else involved. But I was "given" the very 500 I learned on. One cool thing because it uses 35mm lenses I didn't know until I was older and my grandfather let me know that the lens I used on the 500 the first time were the same on my T90 and the first ones I used on my own 500. I was lucky to be brought up around AMAZING photographers. I never received any formal training just taught by a village of photographers that I was surrounded by and would go to the book store with a notebook and look through photography books and take notes of the settings and results so I could try to replicate them. Luckly I made a good living and was able to save up during that time to pay for Med school and still did a wedding or two a month so I always had money. The digital revolution saturated the market but now there are so many quality second-hand cameras! Side note my grandfather who still owns and operates the company lost his first camera (I think a photographer that worked for him stole it) he got for professional quality and always talked about it. So for his 67th birthday, I bought him a Leica M3 single stroke NEW inbox for a bit of money lol. When he opened it I saw my hero cry and overcome with emotion gave me a huge whispered I had the double stroke I couldn't afford the single and we started laughing while we were crying. He knew that I would have had to search for years for a mint one took 2 years. I came across a person I used as a connection in Japan who knew of one in the box. This was before the internet really being a place you could find anything. The M3 is outdated obviously but if you want to shoot 35mm find a nice Leica! Keep up the content I look forward to more and more! Sorry for this novel of a comment!

Nice! Get a neck strap - don't want to drop that thing! A Beattie screen would be a good investment too. Super bright focusing screen.
thanks for your comment. I am looking for a nice strap as well. Also I recently changed to origianl acute matt focus screen. nice and bright now
Love this! Did you use a light meter? How did you set up the shutter speed/aperture for each frame? Thanks a lot
Thanks Gauthier,
I have been using sekoic light metre but not really expert with it. So I was my digital camera to double check for exposure.
Did you buy it brand new ? Where ?
very nice shots - do you use the standard matte screen or acute matte?
thanks Frank. Not sure anout screen but planning to change it soon as it has bit of issue 😅
