Love the deceptive resolutions. Makes music unpredictable and interesting. Matthias has a really nice touch too. I really enjoy your channel Sean. Great content!!!
Hey Sean, I think the cleanest way to explain what Matthias did with the A major and C major thing is this: He went from A major to A natural minor (which is the same as C major). A minor is the parallel minor key of A major, and that's where the typical 4 minor stuff we always hear in gospel comes from. A minor also happens to be the relative minor of C major (or C major is the relative major of A minor), so you can think of the key as C major instead, which is what Matthias did. Anyways, God bless you and please keep the great content coming!! Thanks for all the hard work!!
I think what he meant to say was that C is the relative Major of A. So, C's relative minor would be A but when C is minor, it's relative major would be E flat. Same with A, if he was in A minor, it's relative major would be C. It's just like thinking, well if I'm in A major, I can really get away with playing like I'm in F# minor or G flat minor. Just gotta keep A as my first note. And I'm assuming Sean that when you are referencing B flat in this particular example, you're talking about B flat minor (in which we can borrow from D flat, which would be its relative major.)
Insane progression and melodic line from 4:50 - 4:59 ! This is so awesome!
